Dude, awesome video. I’ll be in Rockaway mid December. Nothing better than fishin with friends and family cheering you on when it’s tough luck. Your catch at the end brought smiles and tears. Awesome man, thanks for sharing

It sure was. This was my fifth time out to. I think my biggest problem before was just not hitting the tides right.

awesome catch there, looks like a blast for sure. have to love the slabs from the surf, cause its all about the TUG

Congrats on the first, it will only get easier. FYI, those aren’t sand shrimp, I’m not sure what they’re called. But if u want to keep them on the hook better, try threading them on with a piano wire bait threader and a bait button to keep it on👍
@PNWFISHINGTV5 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. Thanks for the tip as well. I will have to do some research on the name. And look for that bait threader. I feel like they would have been productive if they would have stayed on the hook longer.
@PNWFISHINGTV5 жыл бұрын
Looks like it’s called a “smooth bay shrimp”
@NorthwestOpenSeason5 жыл бұрын
PNW FISHING TV - cool, good to know. Seen them around but never tried them. You can get the bait threader almost anywhere. It’s got a round wooden handle with a hollow wire sticking out. We use them for sandshrimp a lot. Also, stretchy thread can help

@@PNWFISHINGTV I know those days... All it takes is one fish to turn it all around! Next time I'm in Rockaway I'll have to give the surf a shot.

@@PNWFISHINGTV fished for 4 hours and nothing caught yesterday sadly. But soon as low tide came in, my bro and I went cockle clamming and got a ton. But there is always next weekend 😊

Geoff Murphy most of the times I’ve been out have been like that. Minus the clamming. Still never done that.

@@PNWFISHINGTV I was stoked when I saw your video in Rockaway, I think I'm going to walk to the beach and try surf perch this next weekend there.

Geoff Murphy the biggest lesson I’ve learned is to keep moving. And sometimes there are closer to shore than you think.

Thanks. It’s a lot of fun and you don’t really need any special equipment. Just some hooks, weights and a rod you are comfortable casting a lot.

Last night in northern Oregon I hooked a redtail with a Carolina rig right as I reeled the weight out of the water. I had a 6' leader, meaning the fish hit right at my feet.
@PNWFISHINGTV4 жыл бұрын
+xyzct I have found that they usually aren’t out as far as I thought. Never tried a Carolina rig. I need to give that a shot next time I’m out. What bait were you using?
@xyzct4 жыл бұрын
@@PNWFISHINGTV , Berkley Gulp sandworms, camo green/red, 2 inch, on #2 baitholder hook. (Let the gulps dry out for a few hours on a paper towel to firm them up a bit so they stay on the hook better.)

@@PNWFISHINGTV, I was fishing again tonight and I don't think is was possible for the redtails to get any closer to the beach.
