All for under $1!!! I just used this spare sack of diamonds I had lying around my house, the shift knob off of my Bugatti Veron, 5oz of vampire blood that the vampire blood store gave to me for free, and these 5 baby seals I found and clubbed. You may need a 5000 MW laser, a back hoe, and a CNC machine to finish this job. But you could improvise and use the laser from say the Death Star, and I guess a bulldozer would suffice.

This is simliar to how a diesel engine works. The pistons compress the diesel-air mixture in a cylinder until the compression causes the air to heat up and ignite the diesel. Something like this would be great in a survival kit, because lighters don't always work when wet (or if they break), and matches are useless after getting wet. Plus this is reusable until the tinder claw melts completely which should be long after many lighters are used up
@StormwaterIsOneWord10 жыл бұрын
That's exactly why he referenced the diesel engine and added it to his survival kit. Unlike him I don't have these exact materials readily available so I cannot build this exact one. But the concept nevertheless still applies, compression and heat. Should be a fun build.
@Pete85610 жыл бұрын
Not to be too nit picky, but I must correct you on how a diesel engine works. The piston only compresses air, not fuel, as there is a danger of it burning too early and causing engine damage. The fuel is injected into the top of the cylinder at high pressure once the piston has reached the right point. The hot compressed air causes the fine spray of fuel to burn.
@fryncyaryorvjink214010 жыл бұрын
thanks for clearing that up, I had been wondering how they keep the fuel from burning until top dead center, or just after. Seems any inconsistency in the production process would lead to slightly different flash points
@TimothyRyanFisher10 жыл бұрын
It was the inspiration for the diesel engine, a prehistoric technology.
@garryhuxley9 жыл бұрын

I think this is how diesel fuel is ignited in a diesel engine; with compression and not by a spark-plug.
@awsomesauce039 жыл бұрын
Where would the force come from to compress it
@LOOTS2439 жыл бұрын
awesomesauce An electric motor could be used to start the engine? Then every thing will start to run by itself once ignition has occurred, obviously. You can not ignite liquid diesel with a lighter for example. Have you tried to Google it? ;)
@fl4shbangz9 жыл бұрын
awesomesauce When you turn the key on your car, an electric spark ignites the fuel for the first time. From there, the power of the explosion makes the pistons go up and then down again with enough force to cause another explosion. And it keeps going on like that :)
@LOOTS2439 жыл бұрын
JonnyKiller Yes that is true to all conventional gasoline engines, but not diesel engines I think (the "electric spark plug - line"). :) Diesel engines uses a glow plug to heat the air for a small time around itself before it can start clean (and sometimes even start up older diesel engines), then when the air around is hot enough to ignite atomized diesel, the diesel gets sprayed (which also, as said, atomizes the diesel fuel, which is needed to make it mix good enough with the air around) into the chamber and the diesel fuel ignites; then the four stroke cycle begins and the air gets compressed and heats up enough from that compression; after the start help from the glow plug, and then the cycle continues like that without any necessary help from the glow plug. I think this is how a typical diesel engine works, without having researched everything about diesel engines ...

L'appel de la nature You could use a hand drill instead but I see your point. This is marketed more towards those with a few tools who would like a cheap weekend project for fun. But for someone without said tools, it's just entertainment and nothing more.

how the hell do you get everything for free? I swear in every single video of yours you say "I got this part for free from a local..." or "If you ask, they'll give you one for free." Seems like you know your way around store employees and scrap piles.
@ginofoogle69449 жыл бұрын
TroutOfOrder you just ask friendly if they have some scrap that you could have that they are going to throw away anyway.. usually works. If you go around restaurants and you ask if they have empty wine bottles you would be amazed at how many empty wine bottles you will end up at the end of the day.. just use your creativity ;)

True, whenever I need cardboard I just go to a grocery store and ask if they have some and if I can take it. Up until now I've had 100% success with this! Just one time it failed but because the supermarket I went to didn't have any because someone had already taken everything xD

I don't think I want to mess around with some magical rod that can break on me, just take a magnesium stick.

"Magnesium sticks burn out." - ...........I'm trying to figure out what the heck you mean. Magnesium is a metal. It lasts for eons.
@samking7311 жыл бұрын
DesertArizona Is not some magnesium consumed every time you start a fire? Have you ever used one?
@Enrevio10 жыл бұрын
lolz :D magnesium ignites at very high temperature ..and would be kinda pointless as an survival tool cuz u would need a very powerfull torch to ignite it ...and with that u can also ignite ur fire ...magnesium is cool as an underwater-torch tho
@joritol303110 жыл бұрын
Koks Baron you can ignite a magnesium stick with a knife.... just scratch over it

Ferro rods do run out, I used to think they were the ultimate fire starter but it's hard to use and it still runs out.
