Im 34 and still working on my game because it's fun to get better...I know im not making the show but being able to see a improvement as I go bar down.....still being able to skate with pro players, I love it...also I never was able to see these kind of videos growing up, except for russ courtnall shoot to score...if you're young, take these resources and watch them over and over, this guy knows what he's talking about and he covers so much stuff, this is how you get a hockey mind is watching this stuff over and over...and visualize as much as possible...that's the other key video on here, highly recommend it, been doing that for years which is why I can skate with high caliber skaters because I've been visualizing playing solid hockey since I was 17, the highest level I played growing up was only AA.

I have trouble getting height on my slapshots. I was at stick and puck today trying to hammer one off the crossbar from the blue line. It was really pissing me off as the harder I tried the worse it got.
@AnnihilatorCZ7 жыл бұрын
My slapshots are often just above the crossbar unless I really focus. Frustrating.

Renegade Cz I think I figured it out. I make sure to slam my stick down on the ice just behind the puck with my top hand leading. Also, shooting slightly towards the toe helps.

haha..that same thing happened to me last week.. it was so weird, it seemed like the harder I tried the worse it got.. I just threw my hands in the air and figured, everybody has an off day.

A lower grip helps a bit. Sometimes, I just pitching wedge my clappers and go way over the bar. I think I need to end the shot with the blade curved over toward the ice.

Make sure you're rotating your shoulders through the shot. Make it super deliberate in the beginning to truly feel the different. It'll help you get a better follow through and thus add some more degrees to the blade on the puck.

Great video. I'm trying to develop a better shot, this gives me stuff to work on. Turns out, I wasnt using my flex by hitting the ice. Thanks!

What do you think about the "hit the ice 6" behind the puck" for a slapshot?

Any tips for someone who is having a hard time elevating the puck on the slapshot?
@CoachZac7 жыл бұрын
Don't try to "pick" the puck up. Have to actually make contact with the ice first and create leverage on your stick. Then, just practice...A LOT.
@bananaswag70127 жыл бұрын
usethisonelol I find it goes higher if u hold ur bottom hand lower down the shaft of the stick then you normally would
@zombieruss77116 жыл бұрын
Make the follow through higher. You kinda wanna open up where as keeping it low you wanna be more over the puck.

yeah, shoot more

Great video, I would just add two points that dogged me for a long time until I figured them out. 1) You have to slide the lower hand down towards the blade or you won't get good leverage, and 2) the puck cannot be too far forward when you strike it or you will lose the stick flex you build up on the down stroke. In other words the puck should be back around your skates. Agree? You're doing this, you just didn't mention it. Thx.
@CoachZac7 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the situation. I wouldn't necessarily slide my hand down for a snap shot. For making impact to far forward, it's okay as long as you get your hands in front of the puck and get downward pressure. Your hands cannot be behind the puck on release.

A guy at stick and puck told me to slide my bottom hand down a bit and grip the stick harder. Game changing tip for me.

Make sure your getting a high wind up on ur slapshot. On the wind down hit the ice before the puck, then turn ur blade when ur about to hit the puck and point ur stick to wherever you want to shoot and the puck will leave the stick and fly there.

Ya gotta snap the wrists in concert a bit for elevation

Im about 80 pounds and have a 50 flex stick its also as tall as me when im on skates. Is it ok for slapshots?
@gretsyuk13876 жыл бұрын
Mr. Master-Me it’s too long bud. Try cutting it to eye brow height when your wearing shoes and you can shorten it from there if you need too

You need to try a couple different sticks with different flexes and decide for yourself what works everyone is different brother
