The most classic introduction of a sports lineup ever put into a movie, The Syracuse Bulldogs unleash Ogie Olgilthorpe.

Everything about this movie is perfect. The one thing people seem to praise last is the script…the screenplay by Nancy Dowd. It contains some of the funniest lines ever written.

They don't make awesome movies like this anymore for a simple reason - they don't have the writing talent anymore. Hollywood nowadays is chock full of talentless millenials - the only humor they can create is "sarcasm", which is the lowest level form of humor. I miss the old days and the creative TV and movie writers...

My old man rode round on the bus and played hockey, across Canada. He was a serious guy but he laughed his ass off when slap shot came out. He loved that movie, fights, broads booze, he was nuts. RIP G.A.TOBIN

"This young man has had a very trying rookie season. What with the litigation, the notoriety, his subsequent deportation to Canada, and that countries refusal to accept him. Well, I guess that's more than most 21 years olds could handle. ~ Ogie Olgilthorpe!" In a movie full of great lines I might have laughed at this one the most when I first heard it.

Arguably one of the funniest parts of the funniest movie of all time. I’m 56 and would love to go back in time and do this to an unruly crowd. I probably wouldn’t, but it’s still a great scene.

Slap Shot is a movie like the TV show Trailer Park Boys. An honest juxtaposition of what was happening in North American culture at the time. Both the movie and TV series hold genuine cultural significance as time goes on.

That lineup there was basically what the Soviets thought they were playing against when they ran up against the Broad Street Bullies in Philly in that game. The one were they literally refused to come back onto the ice after getting beat up in the first period until they were told no game no pay.

NO, you wouldn't, you'd get ready to fight mentally and hope you got a goon you could handle.. The guy they call Gilmore Tuttle is actually 6ft 6in Blake Ball who did play for Syracuse in 75. I'm 5' 10" but I fought him to a draw, I was Lucky the Team I played for is the team depicted at the end of the movie called the Beauce Jaros. We beat up on Johnstown. (Charlestown)

And life imitates art and is even stranger: A few years after this movie, Mike Milbury brought in a lineup of goons to go after Ulf Samuelsson, basically sacrificing the Bruins' chances of winning the 1991 Wales Conference Finals. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eISVdqRpZctqrqs
