The Cambells were Royalists, supporting the English monarchy, while the McGregors were Jacobites. In this movie the Marquis of Montrose is really playing the part of the Duke of Argyl. The 1st Marquis of Montrose, a Graham, was a true Scottish patriot. However, this clan were not Jacobites and were neutral.
