He doesn't look pissed, though he probably was. He's too professional to lose it on stage. The tech looked as though he was going to be and immediately pointed out the guy who most likely did the tuning. That's what I took away from watching it twice. You can clearly see the tech pointing to himself and saying no. Then, during the next chat he's obviously pointing at someone else.

Rob Dotzler Yes, THANK YOU, you saw what I saw & what I saw after the song was the "other" tech and slash having a few words & by reading the techs lips he said clearly "It was fuckin' fine when I left it" with his hand gestures in the air showing some emotion.. I'm sure slash had a few words AT him. LOL. Check the vid & break it down, Slash is trying to find the source of the problem. In the beginning almost instantly slash knows something ain't right. He listens to his side of the stage, said something to the tech, the tech was like, "Huh, wtf?" then slash goes center stage, then at the 1:05 mark he steps over to steve stevens (the side I was on) and back to center then made the evaluation that it was HIMSELF that was out of tune. He asks the tech a question, the tech replies, notice the tech, he looks across the stage where the other tech was (out of view). Slash has the tech set him up before the solo, Slash swaps guitars, @ 2:33 Steve Stevens and bass player acknowledge to each other "yup" LOL, he listens to the new tune and pulled it off in time for the solo. He wasn't happy. I guess some people were looking for him to smash a guitar, choke out the tech or do an axle rose impression. Sorry you/they didn't see a FIT being thrown or anything like that. If I Had let the camera roll 20 seconds longer the "chat" with the other tech would have said a lot more about it.

+jwalker1200 i didn't watch the whole video, but i noticed how he was checking the guitar to see if he was out of tune. I noticed that, because I do that, too. Lol I plug in and when something isn't right, i usually mess with the amp & try it again. At the last performance I played, I was in front of a whole audience when the guitar cable I was using decided to stop working. I didn't panic or even get mean. I just stood there on stage & tried to help figure out where the shortage was coming from. (example: i was scared that it was my guitar input outlet.) I don't think any musician pulls an axl, even if they get mad at a tech.

Hmm, since Slash has an agreement with Epiphone, maybe he should get his guitars equipped with the new(ish) Min-E-Tune that allows for multiple tunings at the touch of a button? There's a few standard tunings that are in it and a few more that can be programmed. It'd probably save a few stage techs jobs and possibly lives!

He did not lose his pick. I play the guitar and playing with a pick and playing with your fingers sounds different so in some parts you play with your fingers. You could see he was still holding it. You hold on to your pick while playing with your last three fingers so when the time comes you can bring your pick back in.

That was not the Slash signature stage presence, that was slash super pissed about not being able to play well and wanting to get through the set and get a drink.... He's just a professional and doesn't smash things in anger. He smashes things when he's rocking out sometimes though....

It sounds to me that Slash was handed a guitar in E standard yet everyone else was tuned down to E-flat. Listen to Slash playing at around 0:12, he's the only person playing at that moment.

I think there's a lesson in here. "It's not the amp, it's not the guitar" and so on, or something like "Slash could play a tennis racket and sound great" may all be true, but these guys have great gear, and things like tuning matter. For me Slash went from "great guitar player" to "guitar god" with the in-tune instrument.

The original key of the song is Em and the band was playing it on E-flat minor as they lowered the tuning half step down. I think Slash's guitar was in the standard tuning(or maybe not) but it seems like he tried to play it on Em.

this is a great example of top quality professionalism. despite errors in stage mixing, an amp out of sorts, a guitar being out of tune, and losing a pick while playing, it was still a very intense performance with 100% effort by everybody. they barreled through without lowering their standard, even when life happened. there is nothing to be miffed about. if anything, they set an example by the way they handled this.

Have you ever worked as a stage hand/tech? Sometime not every detailed is always passed by. There is a chance he didn't know Slash should've been down tuned a half-step. Doesn't make him worthless, after all, he did something right to be Slash's tech dummy.
