The Silver Jubilee wasn't out when Appetite was recorded. Slash used a modified Mk2 Plexi which he rented from SIR. It was numbered #36. Slash didn't start playing Silver Jubilees until 1988 on tour. The UYI albums were recorded with a modified JCM800 (which he still has) which he rented at the time (again from SIR) and it was numbered #34. He bought it shortly after.

Glad someone else is clued up on this. Although I seem to remember reading in Slash's book that he hired the amp for the AFD album and tried to keep it by not returning it. One of his roadies sent it back by accident and he never managed to see it again. So actually knowing for sure exactly what the amp was and if it was modified in anyway will always be something of a mystery!? Definitely not a Jubilee though. That's was for the subsequent tour, for sure.

After selling my 82 2204 2 years ago (and regretting it) and having a JCM 2000 DsL 50 i missed that 800 tone. But 800 was just way to loud & no effects loop. Jubilee Mini, i can play at 5 watt really low and still get that Marshall tone without blowing my ears out at home. It's still plenty loud with a band & easy to carry. Has more than enough gain yet has that classic sound. Plus footswitch to clean channel which is so clear. So it's a keeper. I like your reviews as you add some humor to it which makes it more enjoyable.

To avoid that fizzy sound I wouldn't recommend to set treble knob above 4. It's OK for this amp. Pedals will work better in this case too. Bass knob on this amp works unusual as well, it's kind of shapes the sound. E.g. bass to 7/8 and Treble to 3 works just perfect in spite it would be weird on any other amp. John Frusciante uses similar settings and gets a lot of drive from Boss ds-2 in the clean channel along with great clean tone.

Solid review Henning! The 14 year old inner me still wants a Marshall, and the 50ish rest of me admits that there are other amps that are a much better fit for what I'm trying to do. No disrespect to Marshall, they make great products and I am a huge fan of amps from my former homeland, but I just don't ever seem to get on with Marshall stuff. I've watched acquaintances, colleagues and heroes conjure magic out of jcm800s and yet when I dial in a tone it's just lacking something. It could be to do with my godawful hearing (no mid tones left at all, hey kids protect your GD ears!) And I know that definitely colours what I hear to a huge extent. Anyhoo I will stop blathering now... It's been one of those mornings. Hugs from Canada. Be safe.

Great review! I have the mini jubilee combo and I use an RV 6 in the effects loop. You're spot-on about a pedal platform it doesn't really like overdrive in the front too much. However the one boost pedal that really works good is the xotic EP booster in the front . If you dial it in clean you can get those Hendrix clean rhythm tones .

This amp & the studio jcm800 are so awesome. I could never play (carry) the heavy brothers in a/my band context. Those amp definitely aren‘t made for bedrooms, but I can crank them (at least slightly) when I‘m playing with my band. Stunning amp👍🏼 With the fizzling: For me, the amp works totally fine when you play around with the knobs on both the amps & the pedals. I think it‘s not fair to say that the amp isn‘t a good pedal platform after trying out 2 or 3 pedals. There are many (drive-) pedals that work great with this amp: Boss DS-1/2, Zvex Fuzz Factory, any Mosrite Fuzzrite style pedal, Tube screamer & Bluesbreaker style pedals, etc. This is the kind of amp where you really have to bring the amp & your pedals together. It‘s not an amp for just „get-me-a-totally-clean-pedalplatfrom-amp“ guys. I would say it‘s not an easy to use pedal platform, but not a bad one :D Great demo as always!

Hey Henning. Slash actually used a modded marshall from a rental shop. It unfortunately wasn't a Jubilee. ....On Appetite for Destruction. (depending on whose story you believe) Slash either used a modified 100W Marshall Super Tremolo ("1959T") or Super Lead ("1959"), rented out by Studio Instrument Rentals in Los Angeles for the Appetite sessions. He tried to keep the amp by not returning it, but a tech spotted it either in the studio or at a rehearsal and returned it. So the Marshall on appetite will remain a mystery. The man who modded it worked for the rental shop and unfortunately has since passed away. Apparently the where abouts of the amp today is unknown. However Marshall did a limited re-release of a Marshall amp to Slash's specs, based on the AFD tone. Now out of production. However Slash has toured JCM 800 for a little while as well as the marshall jubilee. I believe on a rig run down on KZbin you can see his touring gear from a few years ago or so. Mainly the signature AFD clone amps and some old Jubilee's I think either from the 80's or 90's period with the Marshall logos torn off and lots of wear from touring. I think they might be back ups I can't remember but I believe there was two in a rack along with the AFD amps. Cheers.

After years of dreaming of owning the 2525H, I finally purchased one a few months ago. I spent two weeks with it and decided I wanted the big one, lol. I love them both and what they both have to offer. Along with my 6505 and JCM2000, I'm pretty much set. One day I will own a Soldano, til then, I'm perfectly happy. Hah
@sleepnaught4 жыл бұрын
May I ask how they compared, tonally? This video gives me an idea, but curious if the bigger amp sounds better in person or not.
@dizzyastr9894 жыл бұрын
Happy to answer! As for tonality, they both pack the punch youd expect. With the mini, you can push it a lot harder at more reasonable levels, even in the high wattage setting. So you'll be getting that extremely pleasant saturation, with or without an overdrive in front. The 2555X is exactly what youd expect from a 100w Marshall, lol. When kicking the wattage down for both of them it seems to make the amp sound a little darker. I normally use the 2525h with my band for practice, and run the output master at 6, and lead master at 4 in 20w mode. When I use the 2555x, I dont have to run it that high, (by comparison, that's having the volume about half way turned up), and it sounds just as amazing, but you can tell theres still more to be had. If that makes sense? I'd most likely use the big guy at an outside gig or something, but the small one delivers way more than enough for your standard venue with proper monitoring. It's all the same stuff inside both of them and the same schematic, just packaged down for the smaller one. So if theres any audible difference, it's only due to the fact that youd generally be running the 2525h at a higher level allowing the tubes to cook and fill more air. The 2555x sounds amazing, but you have to really kick it up volume wise to get the same effect. Sorry for the rant, just thought I'd give you a broader picture between the two. All in all, they both kick ass. And there's nothing that you cant get from the mini, that you can from the big guy. Hope this helped, and I hope you get one! Gimme a reply to let me know if you end up with one, and how you like it!
@sleepnaught4 жыл бұрын
@@dizzyastr989 Thanks for the reply! I'm torn between the two, but you make me feel better if I decide to go for the 2525h. I don't play gigs right now, as I've only been playing for a little over a year, but want to step up from my little Marshall MG 15 watt. To be honest, I'm probably a little crazy for even considering the 100 watt since I'll be playing it in my bedroom or occasionally rolling it into the living room when the roommate isn't home. I just don't want to feel like I'm compromising on tone if I'm dropping as much as I am, even just for the 2525h+cab. However, I also have to be realistic on which sounds better in a more volume restricted environment. I want the amp for those 80s hard rock/hair metal tones, and I've always heard this is THE amp for that kind of stuff. I'm also a massive Slash fan, and absolutely love his tone, particularly his live tone. Do you think the 2525h would just as capable at capturing that tone(my sloppy playing, aside)?
@dizzyastr9894 жыл бұрын
@@sleepnaught Oh man did you ask the right guy. Lol. I'm a huge fanatic of all the sunset strip sleaze/glam rock stuff. I like to think my playing style is somewhere in the realm of LA Guns, early Motley Crue, WASP, Skid Row, etc. So yeah, this amp is definitely the one to get you there. It has that really balls to the wall fullness/grit. But make no mistakes, it's not a full on distortion machine. Itll definitely make you play better due to the fact that you cant hide any flaws under tons of gain. I started out with the same type of amp you have about 20 years ago. And every time I stepped up my gear, I had to step up my playing to get the most out of it, which took me a long time to realize. Lol. But it does have a lot of gain on tap, just not 6505 or 5150 style. If you listen to a lot of the GnR stuff, Slash and Izzy didnt really use all that much distortion, it's all in the playing style (Always a good thing to keep in mind). You could always use a good overdrive to push the amp into higher gain territory as well. As for the 100w head, hey man, if you get it and it makes you stoked to play it, great! But realistically I think a good majority of the average players (myself included), gets more use and better sound on a daily basis out of the 2525h. And then if the day comes that you decided to step it up, get the big one! Lol. I definitely get the feeling of how awesome it is to have an actual Marshall 100watt head, but I dont use them as often as I'd like to, as shitty as that sounds to say. So for a Slash fan, fuck yes, this is the amp. Lol. Even for heavier stuff, it's pretty versatile. Itll definitely be a great tube amp for any player looking to upgrade from the MG series. ( I used to own a couple of the MG amps. They weren't too bad, dont let anybody tell you otherwise ) Theres a lot of "tone" purists out there who like to shit on people for playing them. But trust me, about 90% of guitarists I've known through the years have owned them. Lol Anyways, yes, the 2525h is an insanely great amp for somebody in your situation. Like I said, I play it at home, and live. So itll be perfect for jamming in your room, and then if you start jamming with friends, you'll have the sound and volume to stand out!
@dizzyastr9894 жыл бұрын
@@sleepnaught Oh yeah, as for his live tone, GnR live in Tokyo is one of my favorite filmed shows of all time. If you dont have it, I highly recommend buying it. Use Your Illusion tour discs 1&2. The mini jubilee is without a doubt the closest way to getting that amazing sound. And keep in mind that speakers also come into play a lot when searching for a specific sound. People rant and rave about V30s for the Jubilee, which Slash uses. But I really dig Greenbacks and G12t-75s for mine. So if you find a used marshall 1960 cab, snag one. They come stock with 75s. But in the end it'll boil down most to how much time you take to dial in and really play with your gear. Your own tone and style will come through, and then you'll begin to find new things you love about your amps and guitars.

What do you REALLY think about the FX loop? I mean...it's very hard to judge it by a KZbin video; possible issues in an unbuffered FX loop are not only the loss of volume but also a difference in how you feel your tone through the FX loop. The only real neutral/transparent FX loop is a full buffered one (in in and in out, maybe made with two half of a tube) Is this a really good FX loop? Thanks

SOUND SOOOO CLOSE! 100w sounds a bit more bassy and have more 200-400hz than the 20w

It seems like the Jubilee has a little extra mid-range magic that the big one is missing.
