Terrific video, thanks. It's worth noting the “Trimmer” in the VMR can be put in front to duck the gain a little and keep it all clear what’s going on if you want to feed the others lower input.

Great video! ...probably my favorite for hearing the 3 different Slate modules on KZbin. Great pacing and very informative, both practically and technically speaking. The sine-wave befores/afters were telling in a way only visual information can be--thank you! Likewise, we could hear the subtle nuances in the Hollywood processor most dramatically (for obvious reasons of production).That processor was my favorite anyway, given this program material overall, although the London had some softening mojo in the 2-6k range that was soothing. Your comments about the input being perhaps overly sensitive in Slate plugins is true and valuable advice but you might have mentioned the Trimmer (conveniently included in the Everything Bundle and Mix Rack) as the "for dummies" solution if you are running too hot when going in. I have to agree with Avolution that your comment poo-pooing gain matched A/B'ing was really confusing, considering the objective truth (science) about the subjective truth (perception/psychology) is well-proven--as well as common sense. Louder sounds simply sound "better" ...and it is exceedingly difficult to ameliorate that hard-wired, subjective conclusion without the aid of gain equality in output between the source and processed sounds. Our brains seemingly can't subtract those mere decibels off without staying forever dazzled by the sheer presence of ...LOUD. For your students, I would pause to reconsider that snarky comment as helpful, even though mature ears like ours may think they can remain sober in the onslaught and volume wars. Otherwise, MMWA, this video is unquestionably rather brilliant--bravo x16!!

Lowering the output by 2db at 10:21 was exactly the right thing to do - I'm surprised you say you don't care too much for doing that -as how else are you to to judge what the plugin is actually doing ?

What db should my sound be lower than going into these plugins if i do want the sound intended by the creators?...
