This video sequence was awesome! I'm not mechanically inclined, and was able to save $425. I bought the contacts for $25 instead of the whole motor for $450 and had the thing together in a few minutes. THANKS!!!!

Thanks for the info and parts supply. I really think you put the brush holder in backwards though. It has a cutout for the side terminal, and the flat side you point to has 2 nubs to hold the ground brush terminal from spinning when you tighten screw. Two never-molested starters I did were assembled opposite to what you indicated. So, I guess it really doesn't matter!

Excellent video. It's great you guys take the time to do these for us "shed hacks". I need to rebuild my 2009 300exe so will be ordering one of your kits, today. Something I noticed in you video though is that at around 11:03, you drop the metal and fibre washer of the armature shaft while your inverting it to have a 2nd crack at fitting the end cap. When you pick up and refit the washers, it looks as though you swap the order and fit the fibre first followed by the metal. Looks like the ora

Hi mate it is absolutely imperative that the brush holder goes in the right way like you did it. If you don't put it in the right way which it will go the starter will work when you test it but it will not start the bike don't know why but take it from me I put it in wrong and the bike just cranked but never started once I did it your way it fired first go!! Thank you and to others please pay attention to the video when installing the brush holder ensuring you do it the way it is done in this vi

The bendix will not make them turnover slowly but worn collar bushings will. You should order one of our bushing kits.

Also, I did not have 2 tweezers handy, so I put the brushes and holder onto armature first, then dropped it into the housing. There is still enough room to insert screws.

im trying to find a friend that has a paypal account so he can buy a rebuild kit from your website as i replaced the bushed thinking that would be good enough,, there was next to no damage to the armature brush contact point, and the armature didn't smell burnt, but when all back together it only turned the engine over very slowly, not enough to start, so once i get the rebuild kit from slavensracing sent over to NZ it should be sorted...unless its the bendix gear ..... what do you think jeff?

that didn't work either..... replaced all bushings with new ones.... the only thing left is to replace the armature...
