It's not "interference" to be proactive about protecting your borders from illegal migrants. Mauritania is one of the last remaining places in the world where slavery still exists. It's pathetic. As a people, as a society, they should entirely condemn the practise given the history of Africa and the slave trade. This is a powerful, poignant documentary. With one notable exception; it's trying to suggest there's a divide between "Muslim" Africa and "Christian" Africa. Meanwhile, many African countries have Muslim populations, including Nigeria. It's not a question of faith. It's a question of culture and ethics. Someone should perhaps remind the European creator about Europe's "Christian" role in the inception and perpetuation of slavery and racial segregation. It seems that the friendly neighbors in Belgium going "people hunting" in Congo in the 20th century is too unsavory to mention, so it's easier to make it about "religion" as a means to dissociate and distance the modern European from the impact of European presence in Africa. People accidentally praying in French at a church? "That was a friendly process!" Let's blame religion, because it's an easy, cheap shot to point the finger at "other" faiths. As a European, I'm ashamed of this. Whoever made this documentary should dig a bit and find their shame too.

"This is where Black Africa collides with the Islamic North:, its narratives like this that are extremely divisive and backwards in Western Media. The entire statement negates the existence of Black Mauritanians as well (who are a majority) as well as other Black North African populations. It also insinuates that there is no Islam apart from "the north". ALL of the Sahelian nations boost majority Muslim populations. So this "clash" the narrator speaks about is imaginary at best.

It's a peculiar mark of widespread ignorance of history: millions of people, especially westerners, believe slavery started with the Atlantic slave trade and ended in 1873. In fact, slavery has been with us for thousands of years, and was centered mainly on the African continent. There are more slaves and indentured servants today than at ANY point in history. Slavery is alive and well, the backbone of many economies (lest we are tempted to feel smug, western agricultural depends heavily on what is often called near-slavery).

The soldiers in the desert were using both left and right hands to eat - I though there was a particular hand to use if you were Islamic ? Fascinating that this lifestyle is in this day and age - I would be curious which year this programme was made but if Africans are keeping slaves in 2013, it has always intrigued me that we think of the white people being slave owners, when in fact there are many other nationalities and countries that did and do it today

Fascinating although I already knew about this. It is 4x larger than the UK but has about 5m people to the UK's 67m (the UK has far too many people). It is an issue when people are freed by law. English law abolish slavery in starting in about 1807 - we were ahead of most of the world on this so should be praised for this but we did it in stages because of the same issue in Mauritania - what do you do with people who have nothing. If Mauritania had a minimum wage then the ex slaves could be paid wages of a minimum wage by the ex employers to start to regularise things. As there are more black moors than "white" moors presumably eventually the majority will have power.

15:12 you gotta love the French speaking guy saying that when he thinks of slavery, he thinks of boats going to America and leaves out the fact United States didn’t ship a single slave (because the United States didn’t exist when they were doing that and made it illegal for American ships to transport slaves and even founded a country in Africa called Liberia for former slaves, but don’t let facts get in the way of your narrative ) and that it was the French that shipped a lot of the slaves. I mean there’s a reason they speak French in a lot of countries in Latin America and in the Caribbean, especially the largest slave per capita nation called Haiti that only speaks French. Should we mention the slaves that they transported to current day Louisiana and the American South will leave that part out. What a clown.

Another idiot who thinks slavery only existed in the US when a majority of the slaves were shipped to South America and the Caribbean.

Strange question: when they are on the train, the guy says JESUS because it’s rough. if the country is under Islamic law, is mentioning Jesus against it?
@jseehowitsbeen3177Ай бұрын
Muslims don’t care about people talking about Jesus. They don’t believe Jesus is the Son of God. They believe Jesus was a prophet.

Same old story from a European perspective. Don't go anywhere positive no just find anything negative you can and highlight it. Don't do a well rounded documentary were the viewer comes away from it knowing about the good and bad no that would be to hard to do.
