That is correct, but Goatis' argument in this video also has a flaw: if good and evil do not really exist, because they are moral concepts manufactured by man, by religions, then there would be nothing wrong with rape and pedophilia. I’d argue that there exists no such thing as an appeal to nature fallacy. Everything in nature exists for a specific reason, it serves a purpose and is necessary for maintaining life. It may not always seem pleasant to be on the receiving end of such things, it certainly wouldn’t feel nice to mauled by a wild predator, but that predator exists for a specific purpose, it doesn’t just contribute to but is vital for the ecosystem. What we perceive as “negative” in nature is necessary for the “greater good” which is life. Just because we perceive it as “bad” doesn’t mean it’s inherently negative.

“What’s natural is best for us because that’s how we were created” and “nature is always the best” as well as “snake poison is natural for the snake (implying it’s not for other animals” is a fallacious way of arguing. You cannot separate “us” from nature. Snake poison is natural for the snake as it is for its prey. It is natural for its prey in the sense that the body responds to the toxins in a natural way. What you do is assign underlying values to nature (good) and other (bad). There is no “non-nature” and nothing unnatural. If we are created by nature and operate within the logic of nature, we cannot escape this logic. The processes of our thinking and acting are also natural. We invent solutions to problems which is a phenomenon that is “natural”. The snake has no class but poison, certain animals develop a resistance to poison. We develop solutions to problems by the means of science, and yet, we cannot think outside ourselves. New solutions will again cause problems. Efficient industrial animal farming is natural in the sense that it adheres to our needs to have an abundance of food, and it is natural within our construction of the economy to make profit; and yet, it is not a good thing. This dualism of nature vs non-nature is a false dichotomy. You think of human beings as outside entities when it reality that is not the case.
@webiorg614711 ай бұрын
" You cannot separate “us” from nature." But you can say something is abnormal. Yea just because terms like 'laws of nature' exist, doesnt mean one should mix it up with laws of physics, completely. While physics is a part of Nature, technically. We use the word nature to that of standard aethetics and flow of life. I think i get what they think they're onto. Still the more closer to the standard baseline nature, the more ease of flow. We bend the systems around us for individual/ short term benefit. The comfort of life for one human equates to a cheap dopamine hit as far as our species or communities is concerned on that broader perspective. The term "manmade" can get blurry and gray. We are nature yes. Our brains are nature and hence our thoughts must be nature. We are nature. We are a creature that isnt actually essential for any ecosystem but we posses the power to work with and without The Flow. If there was a god and a devil you may aswell say that they procreated and made humans. Really our best invention was and always will be complex language. Even then if humans somehow could never speak or write again we would resettle and adjust around the unspoken laws of nature. There would be much blood and dementedness but we would balance back on pure un adulterated action, or something

You seem to separate "man-made" from what is natural. Is homosexuality unnatural because it does not adhere to the "natural" order of reproduction? One must argue that it could not possibly be natural if it does not partake in behaviour that is perceived as such. Perception is ones ally to belief. Do you believe that whatever is man-made, is not natural? Is your perception, thoughts and memories natural? As these are elements of the human experience, what is to come out of the human experience might very well be considered man-made. Music is man-made, yet it is an expression of the human experience. Is the vibrations of a piano not natural because of the way we manipulated the strings in order to sound a certain way? You must consider reasoning with yourself a very fundamental question if you are to fully grasp this view you have. Is the human experience natural, even if it serves no benefit to us? Remember it is because of the human experience that we have religion, science, government, art, philosophy, war, vaccines, political ideology, agriculture, medicine, rights, rationality and even the ability to disagree with someone on the basis that does not align with another's perceived reality. If these things are not natural, then that is to say, that these things do not exist. For whatever exists in nature, is existence itself.

So what’s about sugar? It’s natural for us but also unhealthy
@Dial8Transmition10 ай бұрын
He has said before that there is nothing wrong with sugar as long as it's from a natural source. The sugar we get today does not come from nature, but in concentrated forms and too large portions.
@heathensein65827 ай бұрын
It's natural for us to sense sugar as sugary things aren't toxic (but bitter) in nature. The way we are exploiting our ability to sense sweet stuff is obviously unnatural

25 minutes 52 seconds of all sides trying to operate word "natural" and failing miserably to even understand what it means or define it within any of the possible contexts

First and last time visiting this channel. Over 4 min was enough. Every perspektiv, which leads to, nature knows best or perfect, just becauce its nature who does it, tells such an unconscious Story. Nature just does what it does, in its own way, but to say all humans can agree on => nature does it right, seems to me like a lost point of view and is only selled to some bubles as true

agree, everything in nature exists for a specific reason, it serves a purpose to maintain life. When you look at nature it is quite harsh in terms of predator and prey. Also there is such things as parasites in nature that destroy everything.

Would you argue that because the good is only good for oneself then such follows that solipsism is the only natural "good"?

I wouldn't go that far but we do everything that's in our own interest, which can simultaneously be in somebody else's interest too though.

wars today are completely unnatural. Nobody in today's war can survive even 10 seconds without a state or a general to guide them through the chaos. Let say you place 2000 people against 2000 people both sides without a general, what would happen is the first rank will men will dual with each other and back away when they are tired and let the second rank take their role and so on. Thats only with swords and spears, today it would be guns and would completely destroy anyone in 12 seconds by the need to run away. If you get unlucky you die while running away but nobody's psychology would survive this industrialized warfare when they are swarmed by gun fire and artillery that they dont know where it comes from. Your getting attacked without knowing where the attack is coming from and if you try to find where the attack is coming from, you would surely die by peaking out of that trench hole you made to protect yourself. Without the knowledge of a chain of command or a state or a general to control you, you wouldnt be able to survive psychologically and you would always want to run away after 12 seconds of that experience. Your group can never be over 100 people on each side or somewhere around that range because were just not built for this kind of chaos that will happen on the battlefield with this many people. All you will get is pathetic poking-each-other-with-a-stick kind of action without a command structure because nobody wants to die, it completely goes against our psyche.
