About this game:

Egg logic: Drawing slightly fewer cards is worse than drawing cards you don't have the mana to play. EDIT: I went back and checked. Egg had 8 cards in hand when he chose to use his second burst effect on Survivor. He would have drawn 3 cards if he had played backflip instead, which is only missing out on one card draw and obviously the burst would have saved him.

Still watching, but wanted to comment.. Sozu was changed to potion gain prevention. You may still use potions that you've gained prior to Sozu. Good luck! I guess I'll see if you figure this out later by watching the rest of the video. Cheers.

I wish NL could unlearn what the automatic "right" decision is in Elegance vs Simplicity. At least think about it for one second. Removing one starting card in a 27 card deck or upgrading like 1/3 of your deck at once.

He seems to really lack a coherent deck philosophy. Boy needed more M:tG in his upbringing. What he really tends to lack, though, is foresight to go 'all in' on a build. If the deck calls for thin, you have to hit up all the shops and make all the sacrifices to cut the chaff out. If it calls for draw, you need to know how many of each iteration of each card makes for maximized hand %s. He understands 'theme', but not at all 'structure'.

I don't think Simplicity is the automatic right choice most of the time though, I think they just both have their merits depending on where your deck is at and when you get the event. More often than not, Simplicity is upgrading a couple defends and a few strikes, so I just opt to thin out my deck instead.

Kyle Franta if you’re serious, sozu was recently changed. It lets you use potions but stops you from getting new ones. If you pay close attention NL sometimes “picks up” a potion while he has 3 in his inventory”

Northenlion read the text on sozu, it got changed. You cant pick up any more potions but you can use them even after you have the relic as long as you obtained them beforehand.

This was an amazingly fun daily and I'm glad NL didn't try and build a deck to race enemies with and die on the second floor. It is a testament to how far he has come. Dying because he doesn't know about the change to Sozu is 100% hilarious and brings us full circle (not that he wouldn't have wasted the potions on random minor encounters though). Episode 110: Still doesn't know what the slimes do Not killing the minion who stole the Noxious Fumes made me sad "I don't really want to kill one of these guys, we can take this one down to 20 though" *kills one of those guys* Part of his brain has figured out how to fight the dark blobs but he just can't bring himself to do it. Btw Northernlion, you can still use potions if you have Sozu. Sozu says that, "you can't obtain potions" meaning you can't get anymore, that doesn't mean you can't use them if you have them.

Hey NL, they changed Sozu so that you can use potions you have, but just cannot pick up new potions. Also, upgrading all strikes and defends is generally way better than just taking out a single card, especially when you had such a massively defensive deck. Having like 6 defends all upgraded would have been much better in that scenario. At the end fight, I know hindsight is 20/20 but you really set yourself up to run into a situation where draw screwed you over since the turn before you had all of your defensive cards. In that situation, you still had 2 open slots to draw cards, so a burst-backflip wouldn't have been too bad a play. You ended up drawing blur and escape plan after you used burst-survivor, then a backflip when you had only 1 energy, rather than using the backflip for 2 draw when you had 2 energy. This then allow you to play blur AND escape plan which drew into another block, giving you an extra 9 block. You would have rolled over 30 block into the next turn, allowing you to survive the hit from deca when you drew all attacks. It's very hindsight heavy, but I'm just saying, you should have recognized that you would be hit next turn for around 38 again and you drew burst, all 3 backflips, escape plan, 2 defends, and survivor all in the same turn when you didn't need that much block, and would have survived with being able to blur.

His problem is that he won't build an archetype without already having an archetype. You get archetypes most of the time by building them, not by getting that one specific relic that makes it obvious. That's the main reason he loses most of the runs in which he fizzles out towards the end. Other common mistakes include gross value misjudgements (never taking Simplicity, never taking the Vampire event), stupid misplays (leaving energy on the table because "I played 3 cards, that's my turn" while ignoring that one of them was Neutralize, thinking he has the energy to play something that he doesn't, playing things in the wrong order, removing a strike because he forgot about the curse in his deck, etc.) and being over-aggressive by not taking enough defensive cards. For the Ironclad, defense is like lands in MTG; you want at least a third of your deck to consist of them in most cases. For the Silent, it's the other way around; attacks are your lands, and you want them to comprise at most 35% of your deck.

I can't believe no one has pointed out how he should have taken upgraded infinite blades, especially in his deck. Yeah, 4 damage a turn isn't a lot, but when he's already said "we just survive until we draw skewer" and he had anchor so on a lot of first turns, he's going to have more defense than he needs and not enough attacks, he's almost always going to be able to play it and then he just has a constant damage source in an otherwise almost entirely defensive deck...
