I have to say, that first run you performed very well. You attempted a new deck (although it needs unceasing top before you commit) and thought about stuff a bit more (like not wasting the vulnerability potion). An excellent step in the right direction NL!

I'm really happy how NL tried out so many new things in this episode, too bad he lost both runs. And extra too bad, that the second run ended by him essentially committing seppuku. Overall it's on the good side for me ^^

The first half of the video makes me want to like it twice. That is _exactly_ the kind of content I love to see. But I can't let you get away with 36:45. If the fight lasted long enough for the extra vulnerable and weak to matter, you would be dead.

hy NL, run one wasnt bad at all. You made some good choices, even if the clash archetype isnt super great, you made a lot of smart choices toward it. which is good. you had some poor pathing choices as well as one big misplay in the boss fight that cost you. but overall not bad. Start thinking of elites in advance, not just the floor before. pathing to dodge elites (especially 2nd floor ones) is often correct in ascension. because fights are harder than dailies you dont really want to throw the hp away for a random relic.

Really, I've found they work really well with any deck with setup turns. I'm not great at the game, but they've been very useful for me when doing frost-based runs on the defect, or barricade on the ironclad. Though it should be noted they become a lot let useful once you have more than about 25-30 cards, since you can't get through your deck reliably with an apparition on all turns.

Picking the apparitions was a pretty bad choice. You're running a defense deck, so taking 1 damage isn't even a very big buff for you. Furthermore, if you want the effect of meat on the bone you have to get into really risky HP territory
@joaobatistaperinjunior953
@joaobatistaperinjunior953 6 жыл бұрын
Not that much of a bad choice, with the apparitions he could stall for long enough to demon form charge up at the same time of getting block via barricade to survive even more, with a fair draw he could have done it, if he didn't commit suicide for no reason ofc.
@syren6371
@syren6371 6 жыл бұрын
Apparition was perfectly fine. It gives him plenty of turns to set up barricade as well as stack up hella block. After that when his apparitions run dry he can focus on attacking while allowing his pool of block handle defense. Yes it basically invalidates meat on the bone, but his run was pretty much screwed if he didnt take it.

Quincy Cambrel with searing blow, the effectiveness of the deck skyrockets with a smaller deck. You want to be able to remove all strikes and try to replace defends with armaments, card draw, double tap, or duel wield. In some cases it is worth skipping an upgrade to get a smaller deck. Until about ascension 9-10 you should just upgrade searing blow, but after that you need to look at making the deck more efficient. Getting two hits in with searing blow will be more effective than upgrading. Ideally you’d look at having a 7 card deck of searing blow, armaments, battle trance, a defensive card draw card (forgot the name of the red and colorless ones), double tap, and 2 madness. Getting madness on the searing blow will allow for each turn to have 7 searing blow hits, 2 upgrades, and 14-33 block depending on cards and upgrades as long as you have 4 energy. To get here, you’d need to get peace pipe to remove the base cards and you’d likely spend one upgrade on armaments. However the set up with a +7 searing blow will significantly out-damage a +14 searing blow. I usually also look for an impervious to get through the initial setup unless I have anchor or threaded needle.

Peace pipe isn't for having a thin deck, it's for getting rid of curses. At ? events it definitely makes the most sense to choose the curse option but you lost max hp for the golden idol. Not the end of the world since ironclad doesn't need to rest much and thus max hp isn't that important, but still a bad choice imo

2 runs; probably gonna have to split up the commentary on this one. Already running into some character limit issues, but whatever. TL;DR: Run Strength(s) 7/10, 8.5/10; Strategy 7.5/10, Tactics 4.5/10. For the first run, I'd say that his archetype wasn't the greatest (clash tending to be somewhat weak in higher Ascension levels), but he played fairly well around it. In all likelihood, he should have pivoted more against the bosses, and having 3 clashes is extremely excessive, but it wasn't bad overall. I will say that committing your deck to a relic that you don't have, especially a rare one, is really bad. He got way too "oh, shiny!" at the end of it with his drafting, which is really bad. Also, some level of playing around potential relics is good (e.g. valuing the Potion Belt less because of the potential for Sozu at the boss) but it should be used as a tiebreaker of sorts between otherwise very close options, not as a thing to just hope to luck into. The only relics I'd ever consider when drafting are Boss relics, and that's because you get a choice between 3 every boss. I'm still gonna take points off for not planning ahead, whether it be doing more thinking about pathing or drafting towards specific issues more, but what I saw today was a pretty good start. Act 1: - Without looking at the map (which NL really should start doing), I think the 8 max HP is probably right. Burning Blood definitely helps mitigate the need to rest, and the potential for something like Dead Branch or Gambling Chip etc is fairly high. Peace Pipe... I don't actually think it's that good, since I typically go wide and also very often have better things to do at a campfire, but it can definitely make taking curses more attractive. It isn't too much higher than the card or the gold, however, so I'd definitely consult the path and pick according to that. - I don't really like pure Clash decks higher up. They're very weak to statuses, which get thrown around by a metric ton of enemies. I'm actually okay with picking up one or maybe two as a part of different strategy (one that trends more aggressive and has ways to get around statuses, so stuff like Searing Blow or Exhaust strats) but it's a lot of work to enable. In fact, here it's fine, as Egg already has the Iron Wave and is still pretty early on. Probably should have bought that Shrug for sure, though. As a note, the 100 Gold start would have allowed him to pick up Medical Kit, which really opens up Clash by not making it brick every other fight. - "What do you think about building a pure clash deck?" Well, it's pretty good for regular fights, but you better figure out some way to not die horribly against that act 2 boss, since that's typically the hardest point of most runs. - The Max HP is an okay trade, but NL's right in that it might be a little too much. - It's Floor 6, you have all the time in the world to pivot. Generally, I'd say pick strong value cards early so that you can fully utilize almost everything you come up against. Just in general, hard committing to an archetype means that you run the risk of never getting any synergistic cards until it's too late (with the exception of one-card engines like Demon Form). Unless the potential upside is both gamewinning and not unreasonably unlikely, I'd keep my options open mentally speaking. - The Second Wind pickup is really good starting from the assumption of a pure Clash Deck- he's seen a potential issue with his deck, and taken steps to alleviate that issue. Good on you, NL. - I'd say in general remove Strikes. Even forcing Clash, with enough Exhaust support you can get rid of the Defends if you need to, and playing a Defend is much less painful than playing a Strike. However, the much much better play here would be to upgrade Bash - it's almost unusable unupgraded, but alright upgraded. That extra turn of vulnerability is so important, especially if it's your only source of vuln. - At the very least, the Relics seem to support going pretty heavily offensive. Bag of Marbles (one of the best offensive relics in the game), Orichalcum, and Vajra all are making attacking seem pretty spicy. Hunt some Elites act 2 looking for boss killers? - I don't like Flex that much - the strength usually ends up being around 2-6 damage without anything to really abuse the temporary strength gain (Heavy Blade, Sword Boomerang, Limit Break, Clockwork Souvenir). It is admittedly nice in a Clash Deck for being a free skill, but not nice enough to be worth playing for. - The boss fight shows both the strength and the weakness of his deck: He got there with full HP, but took 50 damage on it. Hopefully he picks up on the specific weaknesses that he needs to correct (a lack of defense and long-term value, which should be pretty obvious when you look at Clash.) - Impervious with the Body Slam+ is a quite good combo, so I'm happy to see that. The other option was Bludgeon, but I really don't think it's necessary with such a heavily offensive deck already. Good pick. Cursed Key would be my signal to stop going for Clash, actually; he only has the one, and Cursed Key is strong enough that I'm fine with him pivoting to a Body Slam deck to use it best. If you really, really want to hard commit to Clash, Pandora's Box can work, but I don't think that's going to likely be better than the Cursed Key. Act 2: - Yo, he actually looked at the map and prepared a general route idea. He's actually ascended! Now if he'll play specifically around the Bronze Automaton, I'll die happy. - Battle Trance is quite good in such a thin deck, allowing you to just churn and cycle the one Body Slam or whatever. - Shop with 300 gold, a potential make or break point in the run. Let's first start with what he does buy: Bag of Preparation. Combined with the Bag of Marbles, NL has an extremely good first turn, vastly minimizing the damage he takes in the fight. He then holds the rest of the gold for card removal later for curses from the Key. All in all, a respectable option. For other possibilities, I would have thought about the Rampage, but Rampage is actually pretty poor scaling and NL doesn't really need the help offensively. Corruption is good with or without the Barricade tbh, but it does require a bit of thickness that NL doesn't have in case you just run out of block cards. Armaments probably pretty good to add some fairly good utility (upgrading Defends etc; lets him use the Peace Pipe more by easing the need for upgrades). What I'd actually buy, though, are some of the Dexterity Potions - NL has a hard time with bosses in particular, and the 2 dexterity could be massive. In general, Dex Pots are probably the second or third best boss potions in the whole game (the strongest being the Defect's Focus Potion; Entropic versus Dex varies a lot on empty slots). I'd even buy 2 here, leaving enough for one Shop removal and an extra potion slot. - Take the upgraded Clothesline! It's an attack card that still provides some damage mitigation, and is honestly one of the better Ironclad commons. He has 4 energy, too! In particular, NL could practically cycle Weak with the 3 duration + the small deck, which does a ton late game. - The game is really foisting Dex on Egg - 3 potions and the Kunai. With this, he's got a pretty clear shot at the rest of the game, even, although things will get hairier as fights start outscaling the flat damage on Clash. - Taking Exhume for the chance at bringing back Impervious may have been the correct pick, but the second Body Slam is fine nonetheless. Still, though, the Impervious > ... Exhume > Impervious play is very important for the Automaton, since he only attacks every other turn and you want to be able to get some more reliability. Still makes me wish he had an Armaments, though. - Fan is so so good. Sorry Orichalcum, you'd been rendered useless, but now he can get some block while he builds up Dex. - Re: Waffle: I think it's actually fine. He needs boss power, and as he mentioned Bronze Automaton can and will oneshot him, especially since he's got another elite to go through on the way. It's basically buying another rest and a bit. Buying the third Clash is the bigger misplay, honestly. I would have preferred to see the Shockwave or the Weak Potion. - Vuln potion is fine to commit for the Elite kill, especially since Gremlin Leader can be nasty, but I'd hold the Strength potion for the boss. I'd also hold the Thorns potion, but that one NL noticed. Just in general, Potions should be hoarded a little more than what NL's showing us. Use all that Brewmaster skill in regular play! - Taking out the Shame is good, but I would have liked to see taking the Second Wind from earlier and resting instead. Not a huge deal, though. - Instead of using the Impervious here, I would have Bashed one of the little dudes, hoping to kill it later. The burst block is super good against Hyperbeam. Tempo is not where the deck struggles, it's the long fight, and that's where Impervious shines. Also, exhaust the Flex with Second Wind! 2 temporary strength for a card slot is terrible in a drawn out fight! It's not like you're saving energy by having it, since the deck is cheap as it is. NL's drawn it twice on turns where he needs to block more. In the end, Egg dies to the second Hyperbeam, but I think he could have made it with some support (there was actually a minor misplay that cost him this fight - both overkilling the little thing with the Iron Wave and not playing the first clash on the Automaton before getting the Battle Trance back). Overall, a run that was fairly strong, but also hard to pilot correctly, and I think he did an okay job at that. I've spent a ton of time on just this, since I've came down with something and am not at 100%. Analysis of the second run will come tomorrow, hopefully.
