I think the main draw for this game for people who are familiar with Slay the spire would be the differences in playing it coop. To that end i would have been more curious hearing about aspects relating to that. For instance is the game big on cooperative player interaction or is it more of a simltaneous solo experience? Does higher player count slow down the game significantly? Is there individual player elimination in this 90-120 min game?

I would likely play it solo mostly, so it begs the question of why I wouldn't just play the computer game (which is something I rarely consider) Though I am surprised that it didn't launch with 800 minis, which seems to be the usual modus operandi for video game games. I play Deck building Rogue-Likes daily. Used to play Slay The Spire (it's fantastic), right now I'm playing Path of Champions. The biggest hook of this genre for me is how quick it is. I'm in a game in a minute, and I can be done in 20 or 60 depending on how far I feel like going. That doesn't really translate into the board game and I don't really have interest in co-op. If this allows you to go up as high as in the video game then there should be tokens that denote 50, 20, 10, 5, 1/blank. If you cant go that high i wonder how the balance will be. For me personally i like making using and creating lots of poison, trying to get it to the hundreds. If i can only go up to 10 then it feels like a waste to play certain characters. If this game comes with organized trays, which it should, i would find the buffs/debuffs less fiddly. My main gripe right now is the cost. 100 for the base and a few things over 200 for everything? Thats a lot. This game seems fun but i can buy 3 to 6 other games for that price. And compared to everdell, where you get everything for about 300 dollars with upgraded components, StS boar game gives you some mats and beta cards. I dont know what the cards are (havent finished vid if in vid) but do they add anything to the game? I do like the idea of co-op and possible new cards/combos if they need to balance the game for lower numbers.

I'm trying to figure out why my $19 video game is better as a $100 board game. So far the video game just seems better in every single way. After watching this review i'm getting very strong Xenoshyft vibes. I'm surprised that wasn't one of the recommendations at the end. I do have a question about progression. Is progression solely restricted to a single run? ie. once you've been through the Acts and either won or defeated, is there any persistent progression or is it lost at that point when you go back to Act 1? I know in the video game you have card unlocks as part of progression so in your first few runs the market may only be made up of say 10 specific cards, but the number and variety of cards available in the market increases the more runs you play until for example on your 100th run you may have unlocked all 20 cards available in the market (numbers made up for explanation purposes)

This. They have to add different cards, a new character, cooperative cards. I dont know if they had added anything if they have it hasnt been stated. I enjoy that they are making it close to the original. I dont enjoy that it is essentially the video game. The only thing selling it, to me, is the Cooperative experience but for over a 100 dollars i may pass untill i see it stores.

I saw now the campaign... I want to see your back or not to back considering the cost of this game... that include the sleeves... what?!!?

This is a really tough call. I played the video game a lot. Too much, I'd say. I almost wish the board game had something new to add to the overall game, though, in addition to co-op of course. New enemies or heroes, something. If my wife will play it with me, I might pick it up. It is pricey, but seems to come with a lot of stuff.

So this is basically the video game, but more expensive and what the video game used to do for you automatically, you have to do it yourself. One upside would be that you can play with other people. It's a hard pass from me.
@BoardGameCo2 жыл бұрын
Basically yes, ultimately you have to be someone who wants a tabletop version of the game, which clearly does have an audience based on how the Kickstarter is doing, but that doesn't mean it's for everyone

Well that exactly what draws me to it in fact. I loved the game, but from the get go I was like "I wish it would be a board game that I play with friends", or as said in the video play "physically" to understand the rules better, or better to improve at the game. Especially to play it with friends to learn together how to get better at the game. I admit I am still bad at the game and cannot deal with the randomness efficiently, I am very easily overwhelmed and so the game has made me very annoyed and angry at times, not playing it again for months because of it.

Oddly enough, from what I can see, this reminds me of Primal the awakening. Just the less epic fomo version of it x)

Art looks great, components look great, gameplay looks fun, but it's just far too expensive and is too close to the video game for my taste. With my partner I play board and computer games together, and if a game has no multiplayer mode we either have a video call and share the screen or we sit together in front of the computer. I don't see any reason why the board game would be the superior experience (considering especially the costs involved, the shelf space, environmental impact and so on). The campaign is a huge success, so that's great, but not for me, even though I highly enjoy the pc game.

Draconis invasion is less cost with better looking cards and more professional looking. The art and scoreboard looks like 1970-80s to me

I don't understand what justify the price point of the standard pledge. A 100$ for a couple of cards? I won't back it even if it looks super interesting.

If it's 30 mins + 15 minutes/extra player, a 4 player 3 act run would be 3 hours and 45 minutes. That seems too long for what this game is.

My biggest complaint is that it's too cheap. How are they going to afford to make sts 2 if they charge less than $150?? I shudder to think what the retail price will be.

@@BoardGameCo 😛 I'm just joshing around, noticed that every comment seemed to be about price even though we don't even know the retail price haha. Super excited to start playing, thanks for the great review!

Maybe it does feel like a video game but it costs too much on Kickstarter+shipping. I have the videogame and after completing the goal I lost interest in it. It's nice, but there are other video and board games to explore.

Totally reasonable, I'm a big fan of only spending money on games that really compel you

Between Steam, Switch, and iOS, I’ve played thousands of hours of Slay the Spire. Literally 2000+ hours. A lot to like here. And yet, I was hoping for more? I was hoping for Slay the Spire 2.0. I wanted them to announced there were now 10 Acts instead of 3/4 to progress through. Instead of offering Beta art versions of the cards, I wish they turned Beta card art into actual monsters and encounters. Edit: I agree with your final conclusion that this game is for people who want to the tactile physical feel of the cards and for people who want to play multiplayer. I don’t think the physical components are enough for me. I would rather just open the app on my phone. If I had a regular group who equally loved Slay the Spire, I can see myself easily backing this campaign. As it is, I’ll stay with the campaign for now to see the stretch goals, but I will likely cancel before the end.

If its like the videogame its a big no.Its easier to play in pc than in boardgame.I hope they include some new features otherwise why should be playing the same game.the co op is a plus. And one piece of advice for you Alex;try to slow down your talking because you speak too fast and is difficult for non english people to understand you.

At $100 + Shipping. I won't back it. This is not Eclipse or a high-end production game. It's a shame. Knocked-off copies will pop-up at this price point.

If you're considering picking up the Slay the Spire video game I would 100% suggest picking up Monster Train instead. It's the Slay the Spire feeling but it does it better which being the game that came out second that should be expected. 💁♂️

I've tried monster train and it didn't capture me as much, I liked it but not as much.
