Great video, your humor is reminiscent of Max0r and you kept my attention the whole video despite the fact that I knew nothing about 95% of the games you covered. From might have been the most difficult company to pick for this video because of the massive disparity in popularity between their most known titles, which have been picked clean of any new insight over the last ten years, and their abundance of obscure titles, which are known so little that you were given the responsibility to convey the values behind each and every game. I hope you do end up doing another video of this style on another company because I would definitely watch it.

Damn amazing video, one thing I would say now when you said something about From Software needing to revisit their older IPs, it's exactly why I am willing to support their journey in going back to Armored Core this year. As someone who joined the Soulsborne party back at very late 2020, I am very, very willing to see FS come back to their older stuff with their current day wisdom, and from what Zullie the Witch has documented in terms of which game designers put an influential part of their game design into the later Soulsborne games, I want to see Miyazaki let other people in his team cook, so the torch can be passed on further and further!

For the longest time, it felt like I was one of the few people that actually played the original Shadow Tower. I loved it, and still do. The monster designs were so diverse and intriguing. In ways, after later experiencing the souls games, they felt more Shadow Tower than King's Field to me. When I later got to play a patched localization of ST2, it felt that way all the more so. The stat screen for your character by itself had that feeling, right down to even featuring an early take on a poise mechanic, equipment durability, items and etc. Several of the armour sets, weapons and shields were visually reproduced in Demon's Souls and the first two dark souls games, which was just another one of those fun, but not overboard callbacks Fromsoft is known for. Also yes, I did know about Spriggan. Love its soundtrack. The attract mode demo for Shadow Tower's title screen sounded very similar to Spriggan's OST, down to the same choices in digital samples.

Great video. A labor of love. I picked up Ninja Blade a couple of years ago and I do not think it sucks. Really appreciate this deep dive. I was 14 and got King's Field (KF2 in Japan) as one of my first Playstation games. Back in the days when you played the shit out of a game regardless of how unforgiving or clunky it was because getting new games was rare. I had also just discovered the band TOOL and have such fond memories of playing that mindfuck of a game while listening to that mindfuck of an album, ænima. Hugely formative time for me. Still playing Elden Ring and it's just so amazing to think how much Fromsoftware has improved since then and how little has changed with their atmosphere because they knew they nailed it the first time. They refused to change to please American audiences and eventually our tastes got sophisticated enough to appreciate the Kingsfield/Souls atmosphere. Also... just think of the balls it takes to still be using the serif and italicized fonts in the UI. NOBODY else can get away with that because it looks dorky and not modern, but when Fromsoftware does it - it just lands somehow.

There are two things that I wish the most that From would do: 1) a survival horror game. 2) a game based on the manga called Blame!. A lot of people point out the parallels between Souls and Berserk, but I think that Blame! also has a lot in common with From's philosophy due to its enviromental storytelling and overall obtuseness.
@Cryveil2 жыл бұрын
Both ideas could end up as some of From's best games, there's a lot of potential in horror that From hasn't tapped into and their heavily detailed environments would be great for something Blame! Inspired. In general I think we need more games inspired by Blame!, All I know of is NaissanceE
