The best story regarding this song is Jeff's (who wrote the song) recollection of being accused of being a notsee band, all he had to say was; "If you listen to that song and think we're glorifying it, what the hell is wrong with you?"

I'm glad you're giving Slayer another chance and getting something out of it. I can understand why going to a Slayer concert blind could be overwhelming, it's a lot to take in at once. That's the reason extreme music will never be mainstream, it takes a little work on the listener's part with multiple listens to really "get" it, but you are rewarded with something deeper than pop music for your trouble. That's where the intense loyalty by fans of extreme genres comes from.

Thank you for having, so to speak, the "musical breadth" to listen to such a fierce band as Slayer, especially since you grew up on pop music, I appreciate your gesture even more. Slayer is my favorite band since childhood. Now I'm 50 years old and I still like to listen to Slayer because heavy metal bands don't play this style anymore. In general, I was attracted by the speed and accuracy of playing in this speed-thrash genre. I am from Europe and I know who Josef Mengele is and through the lyrics of the song it is so obvious that they are simply telling/singing the scarier stories of humanity that everyone somehow wants to forget. Slayer is here to remind us. You also have a song called Dead Skin Mask, which is based on a terrible, tragic event that took place in your country in the USA. Thank you again for handling the reactions to Slayer songs - all compliments from me!

Great reaction. The Reign In Blood album was my introduction to Slayer shortly after it was released on October 7, 1986. I was 15. Unlike anything I ever heard. Slayer and many other metal bands unapologetically say what needs to be said. Many metal songs are about history. Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it. Those who don't want you to know history are planning to repeat it.
@javirios92342 ай бұрын
Yeah Nikki. I've been criticized for requesting this song because of the subject matter like a lot of us are ignorant about what it's about. Like I told people before, you can admire a song for the music, structure, writing etc without glorifying it. Also, metal is known for bands that write great songs about history and other great subjects that is not about sex drugs and rock n roll i.e. Iron Maiden, Sabaton, Megadeth, Gojira, Metallica to name a few. Also, as an American I've learned that hiding history doesn't mean it didn't happen and we should be reminded so these things don't happen again. Bloodline by Slayer is another great one. It has the pinkish elements to it. Great review Nikki . Thank yoi!❤

Thank you for watching and requesting! I agree with you, I don't see anything wrong with someone writing a song talking about things that have happened. I don't look at it as glorifying it at all..and like you said, not talking about it doesn't mean it didn't exist. 🤷🏻♀️

Yeah, Jeff Hanneman really knew history! "Sadist of the noblest blood" refers to the fact that Josef Mengele was a member of the Habsburg Royal Family. I also learned a new word with this song lol. "Abacinate" - To cut off the eyelids so the victims see everything you're doing. Mengele was fascinated with twins and would try changing eye color by injecting acids. At the end the line "Rancid Angel of Death flying free." alludes to the fact the Catholic Church helped him escape justice. Something creepy is in the '90's old black and white photos of a Nazi Submarine surfacing in a South American jungle port and what looks like Hitler standing there. Mengele lived there the rest of his life after the war except for a brief time in the U.S. The creepy part is that there is a big stone swastika in the jungle and what looks like an auditorium for speeches and the kids in the area who should look probably Latino have a high occurrence of twins, they're fair skinned, blonde hair, and blue eyes.

With Slayer, it is a lot for a non metalhead. I preciate people reacting to this sort of thing. The whole album was a game changer at the time. Very brutal but so good. Most metalheads lieten more for the music than the lyrics but Slayer put the lyrics at the forefront of their songs. Metallica is another band that the lyrics matter. They wrote some of the most emotional songs in the 80s. Master of Puppets, Fade to Black, Welcome Home (Sanatorium) and One. They even did a few great instrumentals. Orion, To live is to die and Call of Ktulu. Orion is so powerfull. No lyrics but you can imagine a story that goes a long with the music.

It's really amazing how Slayer's music tackles a lot of really important and yet personal topics like religion, fascism, genocide, etc. Believe it or not, I was drawn to heavy metal in the same way. I'm drawn to the importance of the lyrics and the true meaning and strength behind them. I'll admit though, I'm not always drawn to the same topics though, but I do love that they get addressed. I like to think that's how I got into bands like Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, Slayer, Anthrax, etc. Nine Inch Nails song "Head Like A Hole" - check it out. :) Oh, and if you want more Slayer, I'd recommend "Seasons of The Abyss." I think the video was filmed in Egypt. Kinda cool.

It's all about the intensity and the feels with slayer. The solo's suck mostly, especially Kerry King, but if you just emphasise the chaos, then they fit the songs. I think if you're talking about the talent rather than the feels, you're just not connecting with it, so there isn't any point forcing it."

I can play most of the rhythm guitar on this one including all the main riffs. It sounds like it would be hard, but the tab shows simple notes. You just gave to practice alternate picking really fast. Now I only recently became able to play the riff change in Raining Blood where it gets super fast and this 11 year old Asian girl smaller than the guitar she was playing did it no problem lol. I figured it out, she cheated because I cheated and left of a note from the tab and you don't notice it. The entire riff was on the thick E string anyway.

Slayer is one of those rare bands that sounded exactly like they did on their records. That was probably because the band was so seasoned playing live and like AC/DC, they recorded w/ the most basic production values. This particular tour (2003 - 2004) had Slayer playing the entire 'Reign in blood' album from 'Angel of death'... to 'Raining blood'... (The late) Guitarist Jeff Hanneman wrote 'Angel of death' about nazi atrocities against Jews in death camps... which included human experimentation... Dr. Mengele, who orchestrated the brutal torture of captive Jews, was the main reason why the 'Hippocratic Oath' (that doctors need to take before practicing medicine) were revised and drafted in 1948 after World War II by the World Medical Association so that doctors and medical professionals were legally and ethically obligated NOT to partake in such atrocities in the name of medical science. Rick Rubin had to distribute Slayer's 'Reign in blood' independently since his label American Recordings was distributed by Columbia Records, who refused to release the record because of the song 'Angel of death'...However, guitarist Jeff Hanneman was assumed by real nazis to be sympathetic to their cause because of the track, and that horrified him in life when they would approach him thinking he was 'pro-nazi'... and Hanneman would shun them. Same thing w/ Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister, who collected historical artifacts of war, including items associated w/ nazi soldiers killed in World War II... Lemmy said, "I only collect the stuff. I didn't collect the ideas." His collecting the artifacts of war was merely a reminder of the magnitude of atrocities committed by those groups of people.

I think it was controversial in its day because there was enough people who hated metal and it was an easy conclusion to reach that the song was celebrating what went on in the camps, in the same way that all metal fans were into Satan etc. When you look at the lyrics they don’t describe him as a great man, they call him an infamous butcher and a sadist. I don’t doubt that some people did enjoy the song for the wrong reasons but more is gained by openly discussing difficult subjects than sweeping them under the carpet. There’s a large number of Slayer fans are better educated as a result of this song who wouldn’t have otherwise looked at this awful period of history
