I totally agree dude. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing but respect for Paul Bostaph. He's an incredibly talented and skilled drummer. But I personally think Dave Lombardo was a better fit for Slayer, as we heard here. I remember hearing this album when it first came out, and you're EXACTLY right. Dave was killing them drums. He always did. Another example would be after he left Slayer and was in Testament for a short time for their album The Gathering. Anyway, just my opinion.

Thank you for listening to the song combo.. most people only check out the 'Raining Blood' portion and miss the lead-up 'Postmortem' completely. I had this on cassette and there is no actual fraction-of-a-second break in the audio between the two.. it flowed smoothly from one to the other without skipping a sound. Someone should make a recording of it this way 'as 1 songfile' instead of two played back-to-back... that would eliminate that skip between the two songs.

If you ever really listen to the lyrics, take the with a grain of salt. The lead singer/bassist, Tomas Araya, was born in Chile and is a devout Catholic. Tom is a very cheerful guy and has always said that he doesn't mind the lyrics because he is talking about how others perceive the world. The drummer on this album, Dave Lombardo, cam from Cuba and is also Christian. Everyone else are Atheists'. None of them are worshiping Satan but they like making people mad and their lyrics have done that on more than one occasion

When it comes to Anthrax playing the intro to “Raining Blood”, Scott Ian(Rhythm Guitarist) and Charlie Benante(Drummer) were in The Stormtroopers of Death, which was a side project, with Billy Milano and Dan Lilker. . In 1991, they reunited for a show. During the song “Speak English Or Die”, they played the intro for “Raining Blood.” I don’t know if that’s the root of Anthrax playing it. However, it’s nor a one-time deal.

Slayer started very young in 1981 in Huntington Park, California... Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman (guitar) and Dave Lombardo (drums) jamming in a garage... Tom Araya (vocals/ bass) joined last, being a bit older than the other 3... Jeff Hanneman became a fan of hardcore punk rock - bands like Minor Threat, TSOL, DRI... and wanted Slayer to play faster like those bands. The band Venom (from the UK) made a huge impact w/ their 'satanic' imagery and morbid lyrics... But also, the band members saw Metallica play an L.A. club in 1982 and knew that they wanted to go in their thrash metal direction. Metal Blade Records founder Brian Slagel signed on to manage Slayer and the band was able to save enough money to record their 1983 debut album 'Show no mercy'... When they played San Francisco in 1984, Slayer were amazed that they had fans there. The band Exodus convinced Slayer that they didn't need the black makeup and theatrics of Venom, so they got rid of that image. The EP 'Haunting the chapel' in 1984 and the 2nd full album 'Hell awaits' in 1985 were the last Slayer releases on Metal Blade... Producer Rick Rubin signed Slayer in 1986 and redefined their sound on a studio record 'Reign in Blood'... the controversial album set the standard for thrash metal drumming and the subject matters based on real-life horrors were perfect for the indie metal scene. 'Reign in blood' was the first of 3 essential Slayer albums... the 2nd was 'South of Heaven' in 1988 which was a bit slower in tempo but outsold 'Reign in blood'... 'Seasons in the Abyss' was the 3rd in 1990 as Slayer became part of the "BIG 4" of thrash metal w/ Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth... However, disagreements led to drummer Dave Lombardo being fired in 1992 and replaced by Paul Bostaph (drums) for the 1994 album 'Divine intervention'... Producer Rick Rubin was no longer involved in the studio, so Slayer's later records dropped in quality and their popularity declined in the 90's after the punk rock covers album 'Undisputed attitude' in 1996 and the experimental 'Diabolus in musica' in 1998... In 2001, Slayer returned to their roots w/ the album 'God hates us all'... Paul Bostaph quit during the tour and original drummer Dave Lombardo rejoined Slayer in 2002 as their popularity grew once again on tour. Slayer released 'Christ illusion' in 2006 and 'World painted blood' in 2009 w/ the original line-up. In 2011, guitarist Jeff Hanneman was sidelined after an infection in his arm by a flesh-eating bacteria nearly ended his life... Gary Holt, guitarist of Exodus, filled in for touring... In 2012, financial disagreements led to Dave Lombardo leaving Slayer again. In 2013, Jeff Hanneman passed away from liver sclerosis at age 50 from years of excessive drinking... (R.I.P.) Slayer was rejoined by Paul Bostaph (drums) and dedicated their last album 'Repentless' in 2015 to the late Jeff Hanneman. In 2017, Tom Araya announced that he was retiring from touring, so Slayer would be on their 'farewell' tour, which ended in 2019 w/ a final show in L.A. where the band started. With Kerry King promoting a new solo album in 2024 ( 'From hell I rise')... Slayer surprised everyone by announcing 3 festival shows in the US, 1 being canceled due to hurricanes. Kerry King is on tour w/ his solo band but Slayer is booking the odd shows for 2025.

Okay. Pay attention (Don't, this is gonna ramble). This Gen-X metalhead has been _enraged_ (sort of upset, honestly) for _fucking years_ (That's true), 'cause _all_ the reactors I've subscribed to have _fucked this up!_ Always only _Raining Blood,_ no mentions of _Postmortem,_ none of them getting the _entirety_ of the magnitude. Ever so disappointing. Crushing let-down. 'Til today. 'Til this video. This is the first reaction video I know of that's done _Postmortem/Raining Blood_ together, as every fiber of my being screams they should be. I've finally subscribed to this channel for this. It feels like redemption to me. I'd almost go so far as to unsubscribe from all other reaction channels, but I'm leashed in by the knowledge that a reactor doesn't know they're doing it wrong; their advisors did it wrong. The people guiding them _failed._ A curse, then. I curse them all with small, inexplicable ketchup stains on somewhat important items 'til they atone for their stupidity by recommending _Altar of Sacrifice/Jesus Saves_ together, or 'til everyone's 'favorite' 'politician' gives up the oxygen habit. 'Cause they should suffer a reasonable amount for a limited time. Your husband has proven his worthiness in my eyes. I'm grateful to him and his wisdom. I hope for the next seven years that every order of fries he gets is large for the price of a medium, and contains _two_ onion rings. 10:41 Bored by Slayer. I wish I could say I can't imagine it, but Slayer lost me after _Divine Intervention._ Life was happening to me at the time, I guess, and I stopped feeling driven towards new Slayer music. A state of soul unbound from old loves, you might say. For any art to get its hooks in you, you have to have that space for it. Your heart has to _need_ it. If you don't need Slayer, I kind of envy you. A soul that needs Slayer is wanting. I'm glad you're a person whole enough to not need Slayer. How I can say something like that and still claim fanship of Slayer is a dichotomy I may have to contemplate. Maybe time _can_ cure some forms of rabies. I don't know.

'Raining blood' ... is one of Slayer's most famous riffs. They have not played a show without performing it since 1986. Rick Rubin produced this album 'Reign in blood' in '86... he was well-known for working on hip hop records by Beastie Boys... Run DMC. Slayer were too broke to make any music videos before 1990/ '91 - the album 'Seasons in the Abyss'... which is why the popular tracks from 'Reign in blood' and 'South of Heaven' in 1988 had no music videos. 2019 was the last tour Slayer embarked on... They haven't toured since but Slayer has performed 2 shows in 2024 (a third was canceled because of the hurricanes) and they have 1 show booked in 2025. Kerry King, Slayer's guitarist & main songwriter, has released a solo album in 2024 ('From hell I rise') and launched his first solo tours in support w/ Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph... including vocalist Mark Osegueda (vocals) of Death Angel... Kyle Sanders (bass) from Hellyeah!... and Phil Demmel (guitar) from Machine Head/ Vio-Lence. Kerry King does perform some Slayer songs live.

Yeah with most extreme metal the bands typically have a "uniform sound" which means that you're not going to tonally hear significant differences. Unless we're talking about some progressive metal or avant garde act. So yeah "it sounds all the same" is a valid critique of extreme metal. But us fans of it just simply don't mind that aspect of it. If I want an artist that goes for a lot of different vibes and tones, I'll listen to those. Otherwise I go to the aggressive loud and heavy stylings of extreme metal. I like both philosophies. I'll add that when I was significantly less into extreme metal and had attended extreme metal concerts I had the exact same feelings as you did. It helps way more to actually know the songs and explore the music on your own time with headphones etc.. Before being thrusted into a challenging genre of music being performed live. I would go back and listen to albums from bands I dismissed after seeing live and I would kick myself for not getting into them beforehand so I could have enjoyed the live experience more.
