Always great to see Slayer with Jeff R.I.P. shredding it up and Dave sitting on the throne just fu*king killing it on the skins! If you want to see them raw and in their prime I suggest checking out Slayer live in Philadelphia 1990 here on KZbin. It was for their Week In The Abyss tour. They played almost the entire Seasons In The Abyss album except for 2 songs before it was released to the public. Not many bands would have ba!!s to do that. I was there. It was a great show. And as far as VHS bootlegs goes the quality isn't that bad.

I agree with you on that one ☝️ However, Dave Mustaine was touring European countries and playing not only the unreleased tracks from his next album called Peace Sells.. but who’s buying, because he had that entire album written in early 1985! He only needed the title track and did a great cover of the Jeff Beck version of I Ain’t Superstitious instead of the original. He also did some old stuff off of what would be on his So Far, So Good, So What? Lp in the late eighties like Mary Jane + Liar too. Exodus’s Bonded By Blood would’ve been released in 1983 except it’s founding father Kirk Hammett jumped ship from Gary’s band after hearing how hot this new genre calling itself thrash metal was taking the world by storm and major labels were picking these bands up and Hammett smelled that $$$. Jeff Hanneman never liked his being on camera despite his legendary status and the fact he wrote half of their songs from the very beginning of 1982-2013 alongside Lombardo cuz when we opened up for both them and Motörhead during the South Of Heaven/ Bastards Tour I’d gotten to know him personally. Kerry King thought his shit didn’t stink and Tom was visibly reserved for a guy who was a maniac onstage, but Jeff dug surfing and playing out live when they were on a hiatus from the grueling schedules of flying cross country and beyond. Lemmy was like a cooler uncle who would buy booze for you when you were a teenager and hilarious like Jeff was; playing practical jokes on every single person in the bus and watching Kerry getting pissed 😤 off so they’d do it more than usual knowing he was taking himself too seriously lol! I still miss him dearly and I knew he would never be able to replicate that easily with as many guitar parts he alone came up with. Enter the only guy who was capable of making that same type of sound and the other guys were unanimous in their decision making Gary’s flight plans virtually overnight having to learn how to play the Slayer set list by the time he arrived at 3 AM their time! Holt was impressive right off the bat and held his own; even if Bostoph was fucking up left and right not sure how Dave who was in Fantomas at that point would hit certain parts of the song structures and the guy was in Forbidden don’t forget, but that was an entire different animal now, wasn’t it.? Of all the times I saw this band, this performance left me a bit flat. I was there on the day. There is just a succession of slow songs from bloodline onward with the exception of Supremist. Closing out with RIB? Did they run out of time to play Angel of Death? They are all good songs but just didn't generate the energy that Slayer normally do at Donnington.

I went to the Manson/Slayer concert in Marysville 2007. What a poor choice of bands to tour together. Manson fans were all painted up and high maintenance.. then you had a bunch of hairy fat dudes in sleeveless shirts making fun of them. The entire venue was divided, was super weird.
