Very interesting video, thank you. One factor that is rarely if ever considered in domestic espresso makers is energy use. Say you switch on your Slayer, let it heat up, make two cups of coffee, then turn it off immediately. In doing so you will be heating 4.4 litres of water from 20 to 120 degrees C, plus the water to make the coffee and steam the milk. The system is not 100% efficient or insulated and there will be energy losses, so a rough calculation suggests this will take 1kWh of electricity or 0.5kWh per cup. That a lot of energy to make a small cup of coffee. A Tesla Model 3 typically has a battery capacity of 50kWh or 100 cups of coffee... Obviously in a commercial setting the energy cost per cup falls dramatically due to the economies of scale.

It's really a nice machine and I can easily see why people are into it. For myself I couldn't justify the power consumption of this for a home user. Heating 5L of water for a few shots a day is a bit overkill. That's also one part why the decent is so great. But no hate. Everyone has different preferences and what your heart desires isn't always rational.

Beautiful machine. Looks suuuuper high build quality. Love the steam/water handle. Profiling paddle looks amazingly smooth and looks like a hand made chefs knife in build. But. The Bianca V3 has programmable profiling and the decent is THE programmable profiler. Neither are as beautiful, but you could buy almost two of each for the price of this machine. But as always, glad you found the one! While I was also an early admirer of the Bianca, your reviews sealed the deal for me over others, including the Decent. Hey Kyle, as much as I enjoy your Bianca videos which played no small part in my decision to buy one - which I’m still VERY much in LOVE with, and it got my 17 year old daughter into playing with it too (though mostly for faffing with latte art!) - I totally understand you’ve got to move on, if for no other reason than to keep the content on here fresh. Let’s face it, most of us Bianca owners would have looked at the Slayer before buying (if only to choke and cough at the price tag!) and might of gone down that route if money was no object. Really look forward to seeing your review, as I must confess I don’t really understand quite how the flow control / preinfusion that you mentioned works, or how it differs to the Bianca. Just don’t rub our noses in it when you are gloating with pride over your fancy pants, expensive machine … (LOL) … and I’m glad to hear you didn’t part with your Bianca. I figure that, if you’re serious about all this shit, your coffee machines are gonna end up like guitars for guitarists who NEVER part with a favourite guitar, unless they REALLY have to, and either way they’ll end up spending the rest of their lives regretting it and wondering what if …

@@KyleRowsell Perhaps you're familiar with the failed kickstarter ZPM Espresso machine that took about $1.2million in funding and then closed up shop and never delivered to any of its supporters? John from Decent purchased ZPM and then made the exact same claim to jilted backers, using many forums such as Home-Barista, to advertise a sub $1000 machine with full pressure profiling capabilities and La Marzocco GS3 level performance etc. It was dubbed the DE1. He advertised a fully functioning machine was near completion and opened pre-sales in 2016. Delays, excuses, and fine-tuning followed and then in 2018 he announced that he would not be delivering on his promises and decided to discontinue the DE1 and instead offered us the option to double down on purchasing a more expensive DE Pro instead. Well I had a hard time throwing more good money after bad so I declined to further invest. Thus I have no experience with actual Decent Espresso performance and John got a nice "2yr interest free loan" from presales. Pretty shady to me so I'll never support DE. I picked up the Bianca instead and have been very happy with that choice. Aesthetics wise, no explanation needed there lol. Slayer is gorgeous. DE looks like Ikea crossed with an Ipad. Exactly. There’s defiantly a cult like following for the decent and almost a pretentious culture around owning anything but a decent. I don’t love that..

Don’t jump off a cliff please. But enjoy your Bianca. I’m excited to get a matte black v3 later this year 🤫

@@KyleRowsell ooh definitely thought you'd go with the white one. But why not mix it up a bit ☕

@@kevindoran7007 we’ll see. I may change my mind. The black gear on a white counter is growing in me.

Hi Kyle, it would be great if you periodically posted cost of ownership video updates on your Slayer.

Hahaha. Nothing but love here but do we really need to take out a second mortgage on a machine that makes coffee?

Never buy anything outside your means. I’m grateful this was within my means.

Would like to see the Slayer vs Decent comparison, but more important now that you have the Slayer, how is the espresso and steam quality for lattes? Keep up the excellent reviews.

Steam is one of the best in the world. There’s a reason they often use slayers at comps. And thank you for the kind words.
