I remember being in middle school and finding Reign in Blood as my first Slayer cassette at that time. It was the fastest, heaviest album I had ever heard. I was expecting South of Heaven to be even faster based on the cover artwork. I was totally caught off guard when I found the songs were much slower and more melodic. It grew on me and showed the versatility, songwriting, and overall skill of this band. It holds up to this day as I revisit these old albums.
