Do you wanna know who wrote Angel of Death? Guitarist Jeff Hanneman wrote it, because he was interested in German history and when he read about German Josef Mengele, he thought:" Oh, that's gotta be some serious shit. Maybe I should write a song about him." And there you go.

Slayer are defo NOT satanic...Their lead singer Tom Araya is catholic....they just sing about stuff that no one else will..lol...one of the greatest Thrash bands of ALL time. I would also check out what the lyrics mean as they aren't always what you think.

Great album choice! Especially if you’re thinking about doing Cannibal Corpse. This is one of the greatest thrash metal albums ever made. It’s nearly proto-death metal. But if the speed isn’t just all you’re looking for “South of Heaven” would be up your alley. If I were to request an album to review that’s on a DIFFERENT level but still aggressive is Mastodon’s - Remission.

This album is ruthless, like part 3 of the trinity of thrash masterpieces; Master of Puppets, Peace Sells then Slayer released this slab of pure mayhem in October of '86 solidifying them as the most aggressive and relentless of the 3 thrash masters; Kerry King stated Slayer had certainly taken a cue from those aforementioned albums in that they weren't into the longer song structures, they set out to create an album of shorter and much more violent style songs and the most shocking lyrics and themes they could come up with. Amazing they fit all of this audio madness into just over 28 minutes

Slayer are not satanic or demonic. They are story tellers same as the likes of Clive Barker in movies. Their subject matter is always dark and thought provoking. Check out Venom from the same era for some truly black metal. Now...considering the song Aggressive Perfector ... That song was originally on the album Live Undead (1984). It has the feel of their earlier music, which is more raw sounding.

A lot of this was about Hitler, wars, bad people, Josef Mengele. They weren't pushing to get those accepted, they were ridiculing them, which is great! I like their next two albums, but this might still be the one I like the best. They were totally fast since it was a competition with Metallica and Megadeth, even Anthrax. Oh yeah, "World Painted Blood" is great too. 2013 release and good video
@Brandonmtlhd2 жыл бұрын
Slayer fooled a lot of people with their lyrics but the lead singer/bassist is a devout catholic. The thing about metal, which you should know given you are a Pantera fan and no doubt have listened to plenty of metal bands, is that you shouldn't take lyrics literally. But yeah, this album is a half hour of pure madness. The last track you listened to, Aggressive Perfector is actually an extra track. The album traditionally closes with Raining Blood. They also had 2 lead guitarists, Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman (RIP). The solo sections were the 2 of them trading off. Personally, I was never really a fan of their solos. They didn't learn actual music theory or scales, so they pretty much made up their own and just tremolo picked their way through the higher strings and frets, while overusing the whammy bar. But they were for sure the riff writing kings. Dimebag though, was an incredible lead player. I have to say that I was a bit disappointed when you said you reacted to Raining Blood, because I was looking forward to that track blowing you away. This album though is a rite of passage for anyone that claims to be a fan of the really heavy kind of metal, so glad you have checked it out.

Agree with u. The slow heavy melodic shit is what I love. Loved slayer back in the day. Reign in blood is one of my least favs. South of heaven album is better imo. Seasons of the abyss is good. For me it’s the awesome bang your head parts of the songs. Not that wild everyone going crazy noise. Each album has some gems, don’t think any album like far beyond driven where every song is gold. Frank each time you really get in to slayer is the same for me. The later albums are better in terms of what “we” like. Check out divine intervention before you move away from slayer.
