Great reaction,, guys,, as always. Let me throw in my two cents. In my interpretation of the lyric, you're misreading it. As with much of Slayer's lyrics, they may appear "satanic" but actually deal with the evils of humanity (war, mass murder, terrorism, greed, etc).. While "South of Heaven" could refer to Hell, it more likely refers to Earth. The opening lines "Judgement day the second coming arrives, before you see the light you must die" is a very apocalyptic/Book of Revelations take on the end of the world, and the rest of the lyrics describe the evils of humanity and how we will face judgement for our sins. As I've long said, Slayer take the evils of the human race and neither condemn nor glorify it, but rather put it in your face and show us that all of us allow these things to happen. In this and other videos, Jojo seems to think us metalheads are violent psychopaths. We're actually nice people that express our angry, violent instincts in a safe, healthy manner, through the music we listen to.

This band saved my life!!!! No joke! I had a speech impediment growing up, didn't speak to anyone but close family for over a year because of getting bullied. Learned guitar to express myself. SLAYER gave me an escape from my anger. I learned that Tom Ayra (lead singer) was born in South America and English was his second language, and was also picked on for "Not speaking right". That's why you can understand every word he says in a song, he is so articulate! It inspired me to 'learn' to talk right. Almost chose suicide until discovering them. SAVED MY F%#KING LIFE!!!! ❤❤❤❤

In 1990 me and a buddy were on our way home from a Slayer show in Dayton,Ohio, when my car broke down (alternator) This guy with his wife and daughter, stopped to help us. Total strangers, but it was different times, people didn't think twice about helping someone. Anyhow, we wound up crammed in the car with them, they ended up going maybe 30 minutes out of their way to drop us off right at my front door. A little less than 2 yrs later, I married that man's daughter. Here we are nearly 30 yrs later, and she's in the other room reading to our granddaughter, right now. I can tell you that her dad has since passed he was an awesome dude, but he was more than a little surprised when that random kid he had helped, showed up at his house asking for his daughter

One of my favorite songs of all time from the hardest working band Metal ever had. The lyrics to South Of Heaven are a commentary on the decay of our society through media manipulation and moral ambiguity. The song doesn’t speak of a coming Armageddon (The Rapture) but of one that’s already here eating our society a bit at a time. This song came out in 1988 I was 11 years old and I bugged my big brother to take me to the record store so I could buy the cassette tape.

I think the common misunderstanding about really aggressive metal is that it is the fuel to light a fire. For most of us it is more like an outlet for aggression. Oh and did Slayer care about radio play... God no... I think the idea that they could be on the radio probably would have offended them. There is a great quote from the lead singer when he was asked about the bands achievements he cited a picture he found. The picture of the Slayer logo spray painted on a wall in Iran in like 4 foot high letters. Listening to Slayer, or any band of it's ilk, is punishable by SEVERE laws of the country, and yet some fan tagged a wall with their logo. That is what motivated a band like Slayer...

1988 Slayer’s South of Heaven lyrics literally describes the modern world we’re living in with people’s egos caught up in social media pretending to be something they are not, women’s promiscuity, fatherless children, wars all over the world and pure confusion of where we’re heading in the future. They were ahead of their time as they have with their other albums. You should do another video reaction of War Ensemble and Seasons In The Abyss. And a little trivia fact, their album “God Hates Us All” was ironically to be released on September 11, 2001. The irony of life and Humanity!

So check this out...Tom Araya (singer/bassist) is actually a pretty religious person. I read an interview with him years ago and he mentioned he has been religious since Slayer's inception (obviously I'm paraphrasing...I wanna say he said he's been a devout Christian for a few decades). In either case...Slayer is out to entertain, just like every other artist. They are one of my favorite bands (I even have a tattoo of one of their album covers). All that said, if you enjoyed the drumming, that's Dave Lombardo. He is one of the best metal drummers of all time. And if you want some real intense Lombardo drumming, check out Testament's album "The Gathering." That will blow your mind. I'd personally suggest the tracks "D.N.R." and "Fall of Sipeldome." I promise you won't be disappointed!

Dave Lombardo is easily one of the greatest drummers in Metal, he wins in this song. Kerry King is notorious for being an erratic and inconsistent soloist. He usually improvises his solos, which is impressive in its own right, but shows he doesn't actually sit down to write any melodic structures in his solos. It fits the Slayer sound, but wouldn't work in a band like Iron Maiden or Metallica.

It's funny, my dad is very religious we were raised in church as Babtists, my mom however, considered herself a Pagan, tho she didn't practice any craft, she would let me read occult books, that were mostly well written for teenagers and tried to scare you away from occult knowledge, but neither of them ever censored my music, not once, no matter how loud, how weird, vulgar, silly, non of it. I think because my dad is a sucker for a good guitar solo, his top favorite is Jimmy, because he's left handed too, and just the pure loss of gracious talent, My rambling point is, among all the ethical conflict underlying my parents religious views, they both adored all kinds of music, and music is behind every single family memory I have, I'm immensely grateful for that. 💜 Congratulations to both of you , sending a child out on their own , and learning how to be you, on your own, exciting times ahead guys! 🥳🦄😎
