I need to find OGD BiB. I have OGD 114, and I sadly just can't get into it. This Bottled In Bond series is interesting, but with respect I wish to say that the elimination process may be flawed in that one episode's #2 pick might have beat out a different episode's #1 pick, if each selection match ups had been a different "random" grouping of four. Consequently, we may be missing out on the top four "best of" final eliminations. It may be useful to conclude this series with a sixth episode where each of the #2's are bumped up against the overall top #1 pick. Just sayin'... Thanks for your great videos!

I was pretty sure from the description that A was Old Grand Dad bonded, not because I know anything but because the butterscotchery description reminded me of the Werther's note of Old Overholt which, like OGD, is an old National Distillers brand new made by Beam Suntory. Both OGD and OO have mash bills that are different from the Beam mash bills (OGD is a very high rye bourbon and OO is a rye), and it makes sense to preserve the brands' original flavor profiles for marketing purposes.

Old Granddad BIB is awesome - not sure if I’d pick it in a blind, but I actually do like it better than OF 1897. Hey Dan if you don't mind....I am new to Bourbon and ready to move up to $30-40 bottles. I am thinking about OF 1910......1920 might be too hot for me now.?????????
@dannyfannyfoodle2 жыл бұрын
@@chu88y1 first, at least in Ohio, 1910 and 1920 are $55 and $65 whiskies, respectively. 1910 is under 100 proof and quite “sweet”, so I’d say you’re good with respect to heat. 1920 is 115 proof, so it might be. But, of course, you could just add an ice cube (one made with filtered water) and give it a minute to melt and dilute the bourbon a little or even just add a few drops of water. But I’d sure give it a shot neat before you even take that route.
@BigBadJerryRogers2 жыл бұрын
@@chu88y1 I am not a fan of the heat of the higher proof whiskeys myself so you may appreciate the sweeter ones like Woodford reserve double oaked and the 1910 a lot more. I love the 1920 with keeping in mind that the first sip is going to punch. But after that first sip, at least with me, I adjust to what I am drinking and I can appreciate it. HH 7yr BiB is also one of my all time favorites, but when I read other's opinions online, many people don't seem to care for it; which also makes me wonder why so many stores charge way above MSRP around me in Atlanta, GA, but the same stores will charge MSRP on other popular bottles that sell out frequently. It should be $40, no more than $45, but lately I see it commonly priced at $55. One shop had the nerve to charge $65! I only buy it when I see it under $45, and stock up.
@ethans99282 жыл бұрын
@@Jbroker404 100% agree. You can't even find it here in Chattanooga. I usually have to go down to Dalton to get it. And the same as you, it depends on the store, but sometimes it's $55 or higher, which is ridiculous. Should be $40 everywhere.

@1xayekim2 жыл бұрын
When I line up various bourbons or whiskeys and I drink them in sequence I lose certain elements of them and especially if is high proof. I think if you really want to get a "scientific" value assessment you have to do them spread out without taking any other drinks before. I would be curious if you experience the same thing so for example maybe dont include this in a video but do it another day or before the shoot. Do the blind taste test with an hour two in between each tasting and write your notes down for each tasting. Then do it again with all 4 on the same video and see if you get the same notes (randomize them each time though so you dont just remember what you wrote). So example it would look like this - Day 1 - Bottle A at 1200 take notes. Bottle B at 1300 take notes, Bottle C at 1400 take notes, Bottle D at 1400 take notes. Day 2 switch up the bottles so the Bottle D from Day 1 is now Bottle B etc. Do the sequential tasting and give out your tasting notes. See how much the match up with the previous day. If they match up you are not being impacted by your tasting. If they dont match up then you are being impacted by the alcohol and pallette condition. They do this in sommelier training and I think it transitions well. I found when I did it none of them matched up to my sequential testing except the first taste.

I have to admit that does sound like a very efficient way to go about proper whiskey tasting and do not doubt for a second that this method would provide great results. Unfortunately, Trent and I both work quite a bit so time would be the biggest issue. I do like your train of thought here though!

I’m intrested in becoming a patron but have a question, how will we receive the glencarin glass? Do we need to request one or do you have a way to track that? I want to become a tier 2 member. Thank you

I do not handle that end of the channel but I believe between Trent and my wife we track it. For any reason though if you feel like you have been looked over contact asap on Patron. I answer all Patron messages. Thank you for considering!

Links to 1st round? Nope none popped up?? None in the description? Someone is asleep at the wheel! Funny, I randomly blind grabbed OGD BiB out of the bourbon cabinet last night for a pour!

Ya Trent must have been half asleep when finalizing this one! Guess I will have to give him a pass on this one. Sorry bout that.

Me to. My ogd bottle has been opened for a while and it has opened up beautifully!

Good discussion BUT the off screen dialog with "Trenton" takes away from the overall interchange. Bring him on camera or drop him from the interchange.

These whiskey comparison videos would be more helpful if viewers can view captions with names while tasting. Your guess as good as ours...

Correct. We usually do but was accidentally omitted on this video. Sorry

Love the channel! Is there any way that you could leave the sample name on the screen as you go along? As I watch I can’t keep the previous samples in mind.

Yes, that was a mistake on our part. My apologies.
