You are so right! Have a good friend that after the 4th or 5th time of being in my man cave looked up at me after a sip of Russell's Reserve single barrel and said "I finally get it!" That was back in August and he has over 30 bottles now. Has said the chase for different bourbons is nearly as much fun as the flavors. He's constantly sending me pictures over text asking me what I know about this bottle or that bottle. He's hooked! Had a guest ask me the other day how many bottles I had. I guessed around 30,,,, counted 45. And that was 4 days after my first infinity bottle when I poured 6 different into 1.

As a first time commenter, but viewer of many videos over the past few months, I have to say I find both lists to be excellent and given the 12 options, would honestly choose 3 from each of you. OF 1910, Buffalo Trace, WT 101, Knob Creek 9, OG 114. and Early Times BIB would be the 6 I would choose from this lineup, although I may be too deep in to this current bottle of 101 to do the math and might be over the $200 limit with those choices. Really liking your list, we live about 3 miles from the Old Grand Dad and Buffalo Trace distilleries, and my wife grew up less than 10 miles from the Makers Mark distillery. To make it more nationwide maybe add a Jack Daniels and Still Austin whiskey. Another option is for dropping to 3 bourbons/whiskeys, and adding some beer and mixed drink ingredients. My wife had butterfingers for New Years Eve, a sugar bomb for an everyday drinker, but fine for special occasions with Bailey's Irish Cream, Kahlua and butterscotch schnapps for a low price compared to most bourbon prices. That one time use only oak barrel and 4 plus aging years jumps the price, maybe go to Gatlinburg and try the Ole Smoky brand moonshine and whiskeys with less expensive rules, their tastings include a coupon for money off at their store.

I have to go with Trenton on this one, here in upstate NY Buffalo Trace is pocket change south of $50 and Evan Williams white label is something I keep on hand for company not for myself. I do however like the backend on Kurts with the MMCS with I mix with MM46, Four Roses SB "absolutely delicious" and the double oak Old Forester 1910 priced well under the Woodford Reserve DO. Trenton is spot on with the OG 114, how do you beat a cask strength for $28.99? and the Old Forester "signature" 100 proof over the way over price Old Forester Whiskey Row Series: 1897 Bottled in Bond. Watching this video actually cost me $50.75 because I just got back from the liquor store with a bottle of New Riff Single Barrel barrel proof. The only bottle sitting on the bar (as of now) that I dont or have never had is the Early Times. great picks on both sides, you guys knocked it out of the park once again! 🥃Cheers!

I'm from VA and I like both lists. I'm still new and decided I wanted to move from a whiskey drinker to a Bourbon hobbyist. My first step was to try as much as I could so I spent a lot more than $200 to start my collection. I won't replace them all, I'm just trying to give each a fair shot as I learn my preferred flavor profile. Trent's list... here in VA New Riff and ET BiB is essentially not available. I just got my bottle bottle of Larceny and haven't tried it yet. Kurt's list... I can't stomach the EW BiB. I have loved so many of your recommendations but I gave that one every shot I could and gave up. I make my own vanilla extract and Bourbon's I don't like end up there so that's where it went. Though my alcohol drinking started with 7&7's, I rarely drink my bourbon mixed today; always neat or ice. I thought the EW would make a decent mixer and I have a little left so maybe I'll try it in some ginger ale. Jury is still out for me on the WT's, all of them. I can't seem to decide if I like them or not. You can lump the Russell's 10yr and Single Barrell in that too. Out of the whole list, the OF 1910 and OGD 114 are my favs.

I'm very happy with both of your picks. You can tell I watch the channel from the result of this though, because I'm fairly new to this ( about 50 bottle collection ) and I have 9 of the 12 bottles you picked in my collection. You really do make good recommendations and I love every single bottle that I have bought as a result of your reviews and input. I have bought many, many bottles blindly and have gotten quite lucky so far, but every bottle I've bought as a result of your reviews/discussion has been a home run for me. I think both lineups are a solid choice to be trusted. I genuinely can't choose a side because both of you had three bottles that are bottles I will NEVER go without ( four roses single barrel, buffalo trace, turkey 101, knob 9, forester 100, New Riff ), but the others that I have tried in this lineup are also fantastic. I wanted to choose a side but man, I don't think you can go wrong either way. I'm from IN too so the prices are pretty spot on for me. I will say to other IN people though, go to your local Meijer. You'd be amazed at what you can find and even more amazed at the prices you can come by. I got my New Riff Single barrel for about 42$ there, find Trace there all the time, and killer deals on other bottles too. I get Rare Breed at my Meijer for about 48$ because it seems like it's always on sale when it comes in. Their sales vary but man, they have killer deals in there sometimes. Unfortunately most of my local liquor stores are extremely greedy and way, way overcharge on almost everything. So I venture out to places like Meijer or Total Wine who have more competitive pricing.

I might have snuck a Woodford Reserve Double Oaked into my top five but OF 1910 is very very close. My six: Buffalo Trace, Four Roses Single Barrel, WRDO, WT Rare Bred, Four Roses Small Batch, and New Riff Single Barrel.

I'm late to this party, but I think this is a valuable topic that deserves revisiting occasionally. I'm not a complete novice, but I've never really explored. While I know where my tastes lean, I want to both expand my horizon and also identify specific bottles with flavors I want to keep around. This sort of list is important for someone relatively new because the variety provides context for understanding the comments and opinions people share about other products. Wild Turkey, Maker's Mark, Four Roses, Old Forester, Knob Creek, and Buffalo Trace are staples that are broadly referenced for comparison. Keeping it to a budget makes it approachable. To expand on this topic, it might be interesting to create lists you think exemplify particular notes, rather than a particular class or distillery. Maybe even across the varietal spectrum. "Here are some bottles that are great examples of [whatever...cherry, leather, oak, toffee, smoke]", "Here is an example of a good oak and for contrast, here is a bad oak profile". "Here are examples of what we think of as a caramel note in a scotch, a bourbon, and a rye". Explaining what makes a particular example notable or memorable (good or bad). Your videos are fun, approachable, and informative. Thanks for sharing this content!

9:15 Trenton i have never seen an Old Grandad in that bottle. The ones I've seen though are shy of 60 bucks out here. Still side with pops on the makers mark. I have been ena.ored with the flavor of makers mark.

Great video. I’m with Kurt. I actually have all of his. And the old Forester 1910 was better than expected. Thanks guys

I live in Pennsylvania where liquor selection is still controlled by the state. Many options you show are not available. I need to travel out of state to find. I enjoy your videos. Keep it up. Thanks Dan

Great video. Kurt for the win. My list, WT 101, Weller SR, Benchmark Single Barrel, EW BiB, OF 1910, Bardstown Fuson Series

I have to go with Kurt. We rarely see Old Grand Dad 114, New Riff or Early Times up here in Washington state and so I'm still looking to try them. In addition, I love all the options Kurt picked and currently have them in my collection. Strangely, there is a lot of Buffalo Trace available in my area with no purchase limit. Maybe the NW is buying all the Buffalo Trace? My 6 picks would be: Larceny, Evan Williams, Old Forester, Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey Rare Breed, Four Roses Single Barrel. We can't afford a splurge pick because we have the highest liquor tax in the nation. 😞

Kurt is my winner! Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey 101 and Four Roses Single Barrel are my absolute favorites, along with Larceny...so in my count Kurt has 4 that I am familiar with and Trenton has 2. All are good and I will try to fill out my collection with the missing bottle FROM BOTH SIDES!!

My 5....makers mark, larceny, Jim beam black, know creek, Woodford reserve, copper craft, 1910 and Buffalo Trace. Not sure on costs but I like those. Makers mark is my go to right now

Just getting into bourbons and I’m on my 2nd bottle of Old Forester 1910 and very happy. How does the more expensive 1920 compare? I’ve done a little research and many say not as good as 1910.

Buffalo trace ($25), JWDant ($24 liter), JTS ($17), Early times, Heaven Hill bib ($50), Woodford reserve double oak ($55). My picks cheers!!

I am like 3 months into my collection and have all of those except the Early Times BiB. I would lean towards Trenton picks just so I have to fine the Early Times. Cheers 🥃

Good call with the 1910. Gotta have a double oaked somewhere in a beginner collection. Woodford double oaked is a solid option as well.

I love New Riff - the single barrel is about $45 and I drink it neat. The BIB is $35 and I like it in Manhattans. Both are high rye mash bills. Good choices, except for Makers. It made my bottom of 5 different wheaters, by far. I really like the Old Elk but it is pricey. For $30 Bernheim is a great wheater.

New bourbon drinker here. Bought a Four Roses Small Batch tonight. Heard it’s good in an Old Fashioned.

It was close, but the 1910 sealed the deal. I was leaning that way anyway because of the Buffalo Trace and Four Roses. Up here in NJ a $200 price range doesn't get you much. Good job guys. This was entertaining.

This is the video I needed. Thanks Kurt and Trenton. So far I have bought Buffalo Trace bourbon and Evan Williams 1783 and I like them both !

I have had 10 of the 12 really nice. I would recommend benchmark 8 small batch 17 bucks great sweet bourbon with Carmel notes made by buffalo trace.

Great pick guys, love all the picks. Disappointed in my area I can't find early times, I finally found a bottle in jersey over new years, but it was new production in a PLASTIC bottle. I refused to purchase in a plastic bottle, so my search continues. Both of you had such great picks I'd say it's a tie

Wow I can't believe that my humble little collection is so well represented in your choices. I have both Old Forester's, Larceny, Old Granddad 114, Early Times BIB, Four Roses. All bought way before this video came out. Thanks for all your work. (:

10:00 All New riffs are north of 65 in these parts. However, they are freakin awesome. On the other hand, Pops four roses is accurate to the price and taste and i too will refill, so i have to side with pops. If you guys are comparing early times to Buffalo then i will have to find me a bottle because BT is an amazing taste.

I've got to go with Kurt's collection. Really enjoy all in that collection. While I do enjoy some of what is in Trenton's collection such as Knob Creek, Larceny, and Old Forester, Kurt's wins the day with me. I would have put Eagle Rare in there somewhere. At $29.99 a bottle here in PA, I always buy my allotted 2 bottles whenever I run across it. Overall though, Great Selections!!!
@randywolf4731 Жыл бұрын
Two Thumbs up to both lineup selections! I might have added a Russell's 10 year and the 7 year Bernheim Wheated Kentucky Whiskey along with a 7 year bourbon from Old Fourth Ward Bottled in Bond. I have to go with Kurt's list because of the Old Forster's 1910.
@darynt737 ай бұрын
Gotta go with Trenton on this one, I've only had 2 off of each of your lists (Wild Turkey and Buffalo Trace/Larceny and Early Times) Larceny and Early Times are the only 2 I've re-purchased, those will both be staples in my collection.

Both are great list…we never see Ol Riff in my part of Texas so have to go with Kurt…fair warning to new bourbon hounds- OGD 114 n Early Times BIB are making so many list that they are almost like allocated here, also same with Buffalo Trace unfortunately. But great guidance from you both!

I've started to really learn about spirits and cocktails in 2020, as the pandemics started. I have been building my minibar ever since, which is slowly turning into a whiskey collection (also thanks to you, guys - thank you for the inspiration!). I currently have a Buffalo Trace (1L, 45%), Evan Williams single barrel, Woodford Reserve Rye, Templeton 4yo Rye, Teeling Irish (small batch and single grain), Glen Scotia Double Cask single malt and a Finlaggan (Islay peated single malt, only to be used as seasoning in the likes of Penicillin). I enjoy American whiskies especially, also Irish single grains, not a fan of Scotch (but exploring in all directions). Keep up the good work!

Love both collections. These are all great starters. I have to lean Kurt here. I too refill the 4 Roses single barrel once it is empty and the 1910 and is my go to right now.
