You are so right! Have a good friend that after the 4th or 5th time of being in my man cave looked up at me after a sip of Russell's Reserve single barrel and said "I finally get it!" That was back in August and he has over 30 bottles now. Has said the chase for different bourbons is nearly as much fun as the flavors. He's constantly sending me pictures over text asking me what I know about this bottle or that bottle. He's hooked! Had a guest ask me the other day how many bottles I had. I guessed around 30,,,, counted 45. And that was 4 days after my first infinity bottle when I poured 6 different into 1.

I have to go with Trenton on this one, here in upstate NY Buffalo Trace is pocket change south of $50 and Evan Williams white label is something I keep on hand for company not for myself. I do however like the backend on Kurts with the MMCS with I mix with MM46, Four Roses SB "absolutely delicious" and the double oak Old Forester 1910 priced well under the Woodford Reserve DO. Trenton is spot on with the OG 114, how do you beat a cask strength for $28.99? and the Old Forester "signature" 100 proof over the way over price Old Forester Whiskey Row Series: 1897 Bottled in Bond. Watching this video actually cost me $50.75 because I just got back from the liquor store with a bottle of New Riff Single Barrel barrel proof. The only bottle sitting on the bar (as of now) that I dont or have never had is the Early Times. great picks on both sides, you guys knocked it out of the park once again! 🥃Cheers!

I'm very happy with both of your picks. You can tell I watch the channel from the result of this though, because I'm fairly new to this ( about 50 bottle collection ) and I have 9 of the 12 bottles you picked in my collection. You really do make good recommendations and I love every single bottle that I have bought as a result of your reviews and input. I have bought many, many bottles blindly and have gotten quite lucky so far, but every bottle I've bought as a result of your reviews/discussion has been a home run for me. I think both lineups are a solid choice to be trusted. I genuinely can't choose a side because both of you had three bottles that are bottles I will NEVER go without ( four roses single barrel, buffalo trace, turkey 101, knob 9, forester 100, New Riff ), but the others that I have tried in this lineup are also fantastic. I wanted to choose a side but man, I don't think you can go wrong either way. I'm from IN too so the prices are pretty spot on for me. I will say to other IN people though, go to your local Meijer. You'd be amazed at what you can find and even more amazed at the prices you can come by. I got my New Riff Single barrel for about 42$ there, find Trace there all the time, and killer deals on other bottles too. I get Rare Breed at my Meijer for about 48$ because it seems like it's always on sale when it comes in. Their sales vary but man, they have killer deals in there sometimes. Unfortunately most of my local liquor stores are extremely greedy and way, way overcharge on almost everything. So I venture out to places like Meijer or Total Wine who have more competitive pricing.

First of all, I am a drinker, not a collector. Ten of those bottles have passed thru my bar except the Maker’s Mark and the New Riff. I was able to snag an Early Times just last month. And I would buy each of those 10 again. OF100 would be my current daily drinker but has disappeared from the area. The only change I would make, if it was widely available, would be the Evan Williams Single Barrel in place of the BiB. A good reminder to pick up an OG 114, when I have space available. Great video again!

I'm from VA and I like both lists. I'm still new and decided I wanted to move from a whiskey drinker to a Bourbon hobbyist. My first step was to try as much as I could so I spent a lot more than $200 to start my collection. I won't replace them all, I'm just trying to give each a fair shot as I learn my preferred flavor profile. Trent's list... here in VA New Riff and ET BiB is essentially not available. I just got my bottle bottle of Larceny and haven't tried it yet. Kurt's list... I can't stomach the EW BiB. I have loved so many of your recommendations but I gave that one every shot I could and gave up. I make my own vanilla extract and Bourbon's I don't like end up there so that's where it went. Though my alcohol drinking started with 7&7's, I rarely drink my bourbon mixed today; always neat or ice. I thought the EW would make a decent mixer and I have a little left so maybe I'll try it in some ginger ale. Jury is still out for me on the WT's, all of them. I can't seem to decide if I like them or not. You can lump the Russell's 10yr and Single Barrell in that too. Out of the whole list, the OF 1910 and OGD 114 are my favs.

Really liking your list, we live about 3 miles from the Old Grand Dad and Buffalo Trace distilleries, and my wife grew up less than 10 miles from the Makers Mark distillery. To make it more nationwide maybe add a Jack Daniels and Still Austin whiskey. Another option is for dropping to 3 bourbons/whiskeys, and adding some beer and mixed drink ingredients. My wife had butterfingers for New Years Eve, a sugar bomb for an everyday drinker, but fine for special occasions with Bailey's Irish Cream, Kahlua and butterscotch schnapps for a low price compared to most bourbon prices. That one time use only oak barrel and 4 plus aging years jumps the price, maybe go to Gatlinburg and try the Ole Smoky brand moonshine and whiskeys with less expensive rules, their tastings include a coupon for money off at their store.

I have the Buffalo Trace (both the standard bottles and 2 different Store Picks), Old Forester 1910, Makers Mark Cask Strength (Plus the 46 Cask Strength), Wild Turkey 101, Knob Creek (3 different Store Picks), Old Forester 100 and the New Riff Single Barrel (both the standard bottle and 2 Store Picks) in my collection. I love them all.

Thank you Kurt and Trenton for awesome show I have everything that you showed tonight except the Even Williams and the New Riff on my bar I’ve been wanting to try that new riff but the winner for me tonight was Trenton thank you guys

I’ve just gotten into bourbon again like two or so months ago. Three of your guys picks are already in my selection. Knob Creek, Old Forrester 100 and four roses. Not a single barrel sadly. And I’ve already been wanting to grab some Buffalo trace of course. It’s available in my area but just picked others for the time being. Really wanna try larceny and new riff. But all of your guys choices will definitely be a pick of mine over the next couple months. Love the page and your videos.

I'm late to this party, but I think this is a valuable topic that deserves revisiting occasionally. I'm not a complete novice, but I've never really explored. While I know where my tastes lean, I want to both expand my horizon and also identify specific bottles with flavors I want to keep around. This sort of list is important for someone relatively new because the variety provides context for understanding the comments and opinions people share about other products. Wild Turkey, Maker's Mark, Four Roses, Old Forester, Knob Creek, and Buffalo Trace are staples that are broadly referenced for comparison. Keeping it to a budget makes it approachable. To expand on this topic, it might be interesting to create lists you think exemplify particular notes, rather than a particular class or distillery. Maybe even across the varietal spectrum. "Here are some bottles that are great examples of [whatever...cherry, leather, oak, toffee, smoke]", "Here is an example of a good oak and for contrast, here is a bad oak profile". "Here are examples of what we think of as a caramel note in a scotch, a bourbon, and a rye". Explaining what makes a particular example notable or memorable (good or bad). Your videos are fun, approachable, and informative. Thanks for sharing this content!

Wish the prices here in west Tennessee were like yours but I would have to go with Kurt’s 6 those are right up my alley!

Kurt, you won right off the bat with Evan Williams BIB. $18 in my area. I really do have to find some Early Times and try it though.

I’ve been watching your videos with my dad over the holiday break! When I got home wanted to start a little bourbon bar collection. Its funny because I basically got Trentons line up minus old grand dad and new riff. For pricing in my area of Texas total wine: Larceny 22 Wild turkey 101 20 Knob creek 26 Old forester 86 proof 18 Early times(1liter) 20 Couldn’t find buffalo trace :/ So far my favorite is larceny

Gotta go with Trenton on this one, I've only had 2 off of each of your lists (Wild Turkey and Buffalo Trace/Larceny and Early Times) Larceny and Early Times are the only 2 I've re-purchased, those will both be staples in my collection.

I'm sure those are all fantastic choices....unfortunately in my part of Canada, I have access to about 4 of those bottles....I knew WT 101 was gonna be on the list, and that's absolutely one of my favourite sippers! Love the channel! Cheers from the Prairies of Canada!

100% agree with Even Williams Bottled-in-bond. It is an awesome mixer!

You both had stellar lists! I think Trenton's list squeaked by to win with his adition of Early Times BIB. I wish OGD 114 was as readily available in Tennessee as it apparantly is in Indiana. It's been months since I've seen a bottle around here.

@@carmenlarue2991 Thanks for the heads up. I live 50 miles south of Nashville and seldom venture up to the big city. Next time I do end up in Nashville I will absolutely checkout a few stores.

Great lists. I'm with you on the Larceny > Makers. And love the inclusion of New Riff. I think one of the reasons you don't see NR on more lists is simply because of availability. I can't get it in my state or any of the surrounding states. Overall, though, here's a thought. Most of these bottles are included on every list like this by most Whiskey Tubers (with the exception of NR). And I get it. They're great values and readily available for starting a collection. But what if you did "Starting a Bourbon Collection on a Budget" but you can't include the "usual suspects." I don't know exactly how you set the criteria for that (i.e., what qualifies as a usual suspect?) because maybe that defeats the purpose of "starting a collection." Maybe "Under the Radar Best Values in Bourbon." Love the channel and watch every chance I get. Keep it up!

Great video and showed a lot of thought. I have 7 of these in my rotation (the others aren't available where I am). I might have snuck a Woodford Reserve Double Oaked into my top five but OF 1910 is very very close. My six: Buffalo Trace, Four Roses Single Barrel, WRDO, WT Rare Bred, Four Roses Small Batch, and New Riff Single Barrel.

Just ordered a New Riff Single Barrel....hope it's good! Thanks for your videos, best on you tube for us UK bourbon drinkers. Like Trenton, I'm not a fan of Scotch.

Great idea for a post and I love watching your content. I think a little combo of both would be nice. I think Larceny, Knob Creek, Wild Turkey 101, Old Grand-Dad 114, Four Roses Single Barrel, Old Forester 1910. A couple that could have fit in there are 1792 and maybe Elijah Craig Small Batch. Here in California, Early Times is never available, New Riff on and off and Makers Cask also infrequent. Buffalo Trace is abundant though. Again thank you for your channel. 👍🥃

Greetings from Jacksonville Florida USA. LOL. Started with you about a year ago, and now have 8 of those 12 bottles, and about 8 more that you reviewed and liked. I think that your lists have equal merit. Also have all of the Kirkland bottles, if only to compare them. Bugging me that I can't find the Early Times BiB anywhere, even at shops that carry that distillery. I gravitate to the Russell's Reserve 10 when I want lower proof, and Four Roses Single Barrel when I want higher. (BTW, I get FRSB here for $35 at Costco.) Rare Breed is my splurge. I cap out at $60 per bottle (about $5 per pour); $25-30 is my sweet spot. My palate (and wallet) isn't good enough to go higher than that…
