Another thought to throw into the mix, I believe the instructions on a Giel downdraft mention keeping a place void of pots directly in front of the flue. I think this is to help with flow and might be worth a try. Love these new experiments Simon!

Hi Simon. I am a beginner in the learning of ceramics and in the burning of these and he guided me all the time with his videos. I have a Kiln Sitter Mod LT 3K oven I have tried 2 burning of enamels but the oven when it reaches the temperature of 830 degrees C (approx) cuts me the electrical installation of my apartment and I have already reviewed the installation and I have not been able to solve the problem. Could you tell me what I should do? Where could the problem be ???? Thanks you very much for serving me.

Too late to mention it now, but the end of the temperature reader (have forgotten the proper name) can get a scale on it that sheds into the pots.

What about buying a burner that is safer (baso valve and thermocouple) and also has the ability to adjust the fuel mixture. Reduction is a burner setting and can't always or ever be adjusted with draft or secondary air if the burner is running correctly from the start.

Simon, in testing to see if your burner is large enough, fire the kiln empty. Chart the temp rise over time. Then fire the kiln with a know weight of product in there and watch the temp rise, pottery is thermal mass. The peak temp, max output of the burner, is the perfect ratio of fuel to oxygen. When you go into reduction, you are lowering the temp. I saw a kiln where someone introduced a small amount of propane into the kiln to make it fuel rich and put it into reduction. Dangerous? Another suggestion to make your kiln more efficient is to put another lid over existing lid. I do it all the time in my electric, lots of heat loss in the lid. You would need the chimney hole in that lid also.
