I like the "life in the pottery" type of clips. What seem like routine and mundane chores around the pottery are things "green" potters like me might not be aware of. I'm in the initial stage of setting up my own hobby pottery ,and just being able to see the chores that make a working pottery are a great guide in getting my own pottery up and running. thanks

I used an oil drum to make a raku kiln based on your version from a couple of years ago...those are weed burners, aren't they? A lot cheaper than the burner I got, I'll bet. I have a friend with an old electric kiln in the back yard...this inspires me to make another!

Hello MamaMacabre, I'm wondering what burner did u get for your project. I'm currently trying to build one here in Seattle, but I don't want to annoy my neighbors with the sound of weed burners. Thank you so much ❤️

@pyroclayman For bisq i eyeball it and for cone, and for cone 10 I have a cone just above half way up in kiln, with a spy hole.

I understand that glazes react differently to gas versus electricity. Does the bisque react differently as well

@tbagconvertable I really do not know what is happening regarding CA at present. I was hoping maybe to get a workshop somewhere over there but there is nothing forthcoming at the moment. It is late in the day for people to get their heads around me just turning up ....but then again i just might ! ~ ha !

i have a question please! when using a raku gas fire, and you get pieces that the glaze was like boiling; bubbling, not even fired, is it the glaze or the flow of fire, or is it the position of the shelf thanks in advance. thanks for all the info you always share

Simon, what are the "cowls" made of where the burners feed flame into the holes at the bottom of the kiln? Looks like a clever adaptation.

Is the burner a propane torch?

Dear Simon, do you sell your gas kiln building plan. If you do I would like to buy it. Top dollar. I have an old Duncan 1029 that needs something to do. Thanks

what did you use to make the cowl for the burner? is it just fire brick or soft brick? How did you attach it.

First!!! Way cool kiln... I am still fearful of stacking even my bisque firings.

Simon, when firing for bisque, what are doing for "peak temp control" with that kiln? Cones?

Hey Simon! I have converted an electric kiln but with holes in the bottom and top of the lid in the center. I am having trouble reaching temp. I only have one weed burner using it to shoot the flame up the center. I have a shelf 8 inches from the bottom . and baffle shelf down from the top of the kiln under the hole 1.5 inhces from the top. I am not sure how high to turn on these burner when doing a bisque or should I be using 2 burners. Do you go full on at the last part of the firing for Bisque? Thanks for all your videos! They are most helpful!

Its difficult for me to make comments about your kiln without seeing it. If you send me images I can perhaps help you - contact me via website email.

What is the benefit of diverting the burnt gasses thru an "internal chimney" thru the kilns lid, rather than thru the kiln wall at the floor level like most down draft kilns?

Patrick Bass player - basically because it is more efficient, you do loose a very small amount of kiln space though.
