There is a pulley system mounted on the sled's axles that winches the weight forward as the sled moved forward, taking the weight off the wheels and onto the skid, making it progressively harder to move.

No one even had nearly two thirds break down in this show, so maybe try watching it. Also most drag cars break down once or twice before the get the setup right, its just that they run them down the track often and find the issues then, not find out if they are right at the competitions like these trucks are. I say they may not be the worlds most reliable vehicles, but good on these guys getting out there and doing it rand thanks to motor-trend for airing this show!

I did watch it, and this being the last event they had most of the glitches worked out (or had already bowed out from damage), they still blew up two of the six they showed. The dyno pull at the beginning of the series was pure carnage. Makes me wonder why they didn't "run them down the track often and find the issues" before showing up for competition. Only makes sense, but these seemed fresh from the garage.

Really any modern diesel from the 12v to the 7.3 can be made to run. I just wanna see the old 7.3 or even " The worst Diesel ever made in a pickup the 6.0" lol im not a huge fan of it cause i have a 7.3 but still id love to see it compete. the last year of a diesel power challenge i found that had a wide range of trucks and ppl trying stuff was 2010. that issue i can read over and over

Any vehicle built as far as these trucks will be way more prone to breaking, how do people not understand this? Building a vehicle then putting it through what these guys did with their trucks, will always result in some broken cars. Big thanks goes out to MT and the participants for risking their trucks for all of us to watch and enjoy!

A buddy of mine bought a brand new 2013 F-250 SuperCrew, swapped out the new Ford for a rebuilt 7.3 twin turbo supercharged. Best decision since divorcing the 3rd wench. I'm a Chevy guy but the 7.3 is hands down my favorite diesel for everyday use.

The winner of the Dyno test was the truck that made the most total HP and TQ. Winner of the Drag was the fastest time not trap speed. Winner of the obstacle course was fastest time. Winner of the pull was furthest distance. Its all about how far you can push your truck before it blows up.

I agree, it seems strange that "a field of some of the best diesel truck in the US" was mostly a set of trucks that where newly built or newly upgraded to a much higher power level and still sorting the issues. Maybe Motor Trend chose to go this way because the carnage makes better filming than well sorted reliability, maybe people with sorted trucks didn't want to thrash them through this set of challenges, I don't know. Would be good if they spoke about the selection process at some stage...

EG3HC It sure did seem like the Ford platform held up a lot better to the extreme heat these trucks generate. The Dodges had steam and coolant pouring out the front, where the Ford Super Duty's and GMC's both took it all in stride.

be somewhat expensive and difficult but the 4bt cummins may be a good choice for you or that 2 something liter volkswagen deals they put in their cars, but ive always heard a gasser is really better for wheeling because of the torque diesels make [part snapping torque] and the turbo lag most of em have, maybe a 4.3 chevy v6? heard they are good

every time you fix your car, you learn about it (especially if youre pushing it to the limits) and you get to improve on it. eventually you end up with a vehicle thats nearly bullet proof, and you know exactly its limits. your "argument" could be used on every single type of motorsport, the point is to reach the ultimate performance

yea i know these monsters have extreme modified engines but why the exhaust smoke is so black. Is anyone know i'm wondering?

because it's a diesel. the black exhaust is when it has unburned fuel, because of a compression engine without spark plugs.

6.4's are MONSTER engines even with a little bit of tuning. they dont need that much customization to blow the f##king doors of other competitors; their are very few engines that can make horsepower like a 6.4. the problem is most of the time they dont hold together like other engines. they grenade very easily if not taking care off. in my opinion, 6.4 is an abstract engine, insane amount potential power but no longevity; it cant go the distance like a bulletproof 6.0 or 7.3 or even a well taking care of scorpion 6.7. despite all the down falls 6.4 is still my favorite engine
