@@krumplethemal8831 I always thought since cats are crepuscular, in the wild they would sleep midday, but also in the middle of the night? She definitely thinks it's time to wake up. 😅

I think her waking up at 2 PM is from me feeding her at 3 PM. (It's a long story - I use a slow feeder with an ice pack that lets me give her small meals of wet food with her medication mixed in.) But I am pretty sure waking up at 4 AM is all her idea!

"Why is dad still asleep if we're awake? I'm mad! I want dad!!" - Billi

There seems to me, despite skepticism I have read online, that Billi and Bunny both use word buttons to express their thoughts. The "Billi pets mom" video is pretty clear -- hard to believe that was just random given how unusual the cat trying to pet human behavior was. And in this video, Billi is discussing "dad" not being present because he is sleeping.
@miaowminx2 жыл бұрын
If you haven't yet, you might also look through the videos of Russell the cat using his buttons, as he uses them to signal his emotional discomfort with things being out of place or chores being unfinished: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHLOe5pnnZupasU explanation/demonstration of why he has a 'laundry' button: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4jQoqyJn9RsbLc
@animalntelligence31702 жыл бұрын
@@miaowminx Yes, I like Russel. His concerns about laundry left in dryer. Cats I think based on their major recreational activity -- grooming -- like order. I have btw read a story from long ago about a cat being able to actually speak, verbally, entire sentences and since humans can be much smarter than other humans, why could there not have been a cat who could actually speak? The Gauss or Einstein or Newton or Fermat or Galileo or Archimedes of cats who had, say, the intelligence of a human 7 year old (we accept that dogs or cats are as smart as human toddlers sort of as being normal).
@wobblegong2 жыл бұрын
The skepticism around button communication isn't over if animals can communicate their desires, they can clearly learn that x need = x button, y need = y button. It's skepticism over if they're expressing anything beyond immediate need fulfillment, like are they just button-mashing combinations that they've found effective at giving them what they want, vs actually trying to convey a thought or idea. Like when Billi hits "mad", there's a difference between her knowing it's the nuclear button when she's not getting what she wants (and that button usually fulfills it), and Billi knowing that she's mad and actually saying that she's mad.
@animalntelligence31702 жыл бұрын
@@wobblegong I have seen Bunny the dog appear to discuss the past and ask questions. Billi learned about buttons at 12 calendar years old -- even a human would have difficulty learning to speak at that age. Bunny started as a puppy and unless the videos are faked or very selective, I am pretty sure Bunny is speaking sentences.
@wobblegong2 жыл бұрын
@@animalntelligence3170 With Bunny, her videos seem much more closer to sentences, but just like with Koko the Gorilla, we're only seeing curated clips that make sense for the few seconds we get and are fun to watch on KZbin. For all we know, there may be an equal amount of incoherent button mashing behind the scenes. Even with Bunny, there's still reason to be skeptical, like with that one video Bunny pushed 'stranger, paw' and Alexis told us that she later found a thorn in Bunny's paw, and it meant that Bunny was calling her thorn 'stranger'. It's a very huge leap from Bunny knowing what 'stranger' means, when it's normally modelled for her after unfamiliar people coming and going near their property, to Bunny applying that concept to 'foreign object' and using it to describe a thorn in her paw. For that example, it's much more likely Bunny intended to push 'paw' about her paw pain, and 'stranger' was just a random/accidental button mash that happened, and not a sentence-forming.

Cats are great at telling time! Not on a human clock but their inner clock is really good.
@TieDyeVikki2 жыл бұрын
YES, most (if not all) animals have excellent internal clocks. And animals like regular schedules, because they're always looking ahead to what's next (and often beyond, as Billi has shown us), and they like knowing what that's going to be. Our pets spend a good deal of their time WAITING for one thing or another, (like Billi waiting for Dad to wake up), which makes them very aware of time. Or that's my theory, anyway. :)

I can't get over how brilliant this is. Just as the notepad (and writing in general, leaving aside speech sounds for the moment) assisted human cognition though assisted active memory, leading to improvements that were less likely by unaided reason alone (and which led to further cognitive improvements through various factors), so this device gives the animal a chance to "form language" without need of the ability to itself pronounce, or even recall the sound. It can physically touch the sound into existence, for the associations, and play with language not unlike a beginner on the piano, who will do well to understand a few basics of how to touch the keys to produce better sounding notes.
