The majority of people have experienced some form of sleep paralysis in their life but had no idea that this is what happened to them. What is sleep paralysis? It’s when a person is either about to fall asleep or wake up, and they can hear everything around them but unable to move or see.
Sleep paralysis was first observed in 1664 by a Dutch physician. At the time, the physician thought a 50-year-old woman was having nightmares, which stayed that way until the name was changed in the 19th century. However, documents date the phenomenon going back to the 10th century.
What are the symptoms of sleep paralysis? The condition is the result of being excessively tired and stressed out. There’s no real explanation as to why it occurs.
