My neighbor is 90 and much sharper than most 20 yrs old. After changing jobs at age 56 my memory and attention is much better than it was in my 40s The brain can change and rejuvenate in any age due to stimulus like brain exercise, environment, sleep habits, nutrition and nutrients.

stimulating the brain daily with puzzles, exercise, reading, learning languages, etc are all so helpful for preventing cognitive decline. I had a dead end boring job for a few years and felt like I was getting slower over time. Now I have a more challenging and creative job and spend my time enjoying learning new things and the difference is night and day. I also get depressed much less often now, though it still happens sometimes as it’s an illness.

Excellent presentation!! Loved your light hearted delivery. I am a 67 year old black female retired science teacher with one parent age 87 who developed dementia at about 70 years old and 4 of her 9 siblings have/ had it as well ( along with Diabetes)at some point starting in their 70s. My diet for 4 years has been 90 percent free of added sugar and processed food. Within my acceptable body mass index. Just tweeked my already heart healthy diet this year to the MIND DIET to be proactive about my brain health. I walk/ run for at least 40 to 50 minutes several times a week and do weights as well. It IS a journey. There is no guarantee, but no excuse not to help yourself be healthier before the last minute. Thanks for your information.

I learned how to rise a garden as a garden as a child from my parents. Both were from large families and were raised during t he depression when jobs and money were hard to come by and they raised huge gardens,! My mother had to stay at home and help raise her siblings so she never finished high school. My dad finished the 11th grade and went into WW2! There wasn't enough food so the government issued food rationing and encouraged people to start victory gardens since a lot of food was sent to feed the troops. After the war my folks continued to waive gardens and my father always said that the food you bought was contaminated with chemicals and that was the reason for another of the diseases people were getting! He never bought pesticides, herbicides or fertilizer and always composted and used that for the garden! I use the same method of gardening and we can in the fall to preserve food. My Father died at 93 and Mom died at 96 and was near 97! They were pretty savy on health issues!

For the first time in my life, I feel hope that I have identified just what is wrong with me and have hope to recover. I’m a 53 year old woman who has had stomach issues my entire life. I am also 15 years post a car accident from which I have never recovered. I suffer constant UTIs, sinus infections, no immunity, chronic pain and “supposed” IBS. I have always felt that this has come from my gut but have not found the help that I have so badly needed. Having had food allergies and now anaphylactic reactions to antibiotics am tired of taking more and more drugs which don’t work. I eat clean but can’t seem to get ahead. I am currently throwing away my fluconozole and signing up For your products. Thank you so much.

I think the PKD or KetoAF (Paleolithic Keotgenic Diet) is superior to other so called antiinflamatory diets. You probably don't have to do the strict version at all to get good results. I have seen youtube channels with bad cases that has been symptom free when doing the PKD diet. Just doing a liberal Carnivor diet will probably reduce symptoms within weeks.

@@tomaskormark1747 that is true. also works for healthy peopIe as well. ive been non-strict liberal low carb, on and off, in the past 2 years or so. sometimes ketogenic hypercarnivore as well when i have alot of meat. despite being already healthy, i still saw health improvements. its weird but my focus, and multitasking skills have improved. memory and learning as well. oh and my body composition changed. its almost miraculous. fatty meat, fish meat and organ meats have the strongest effect especially when combined with OMAD and resistance training. this lifestyle is literally a lifehack. i wish i knew about this when i was a kid.

I am 80 chronologically, but my brain is still humming along. I eat as close to 100% organic food as possible, Also exercise, get sunshine, play chess & Scrabble, watch little TV, read, and meditate (most important). Also I take supplements, lots of them. IMO, most important for brain health are PQQ, vinpocetine, Lions Mane mushroom, green oats extract, taurine, magnesium L threonate, Astragalus, jiaogulan, curcumin, EGCG, vitamin C, vitamin D3, melatonin, lithium, r Lipoic acid, ginkgo biloba, huperzine A, macuna dopa, iodine, ginseng, bacopa extract, etc. The body is wildly complex and so it needs lots of different materials. I try to give it what it needs. I also employ Rife frequencies, PEMF, and microelectricity. I do have a dogmatic attitude about it and do not allow myself to "take it easy" because I am in the "golden years". It is a game on some level I suppose but it is, for me, a serious one.

@@vminhope3040 its normal to experience that occasionally. what is abnormal is if its a regular thing. i do not remember the last time i experienced that. lol, maybe years ago when i had too much alcohol? i do not know of anyone who experience that too. do not hesitate in "diagnosing yourself" just because you are not a doctor. you know more about your life, your diet and lifestyle, far more than any doctor. also most doctors are trained only in allopathic medicine. not diet and lifestyle matters. trust me on this. i come from a family with obese doctors. you cant rely on most doctors when it comes to these things. if its nutrient deficiencies you have, there are lab tests you can take to check your status. its not necessary though. just eat a nutrient rich diet that is NOT plant based, and you will eventually fix nutrient deficiencies. if youre dangerously low in certain nutrients, you also need to supplement. b vitamin deficiencies are the most common ones i see. also, vitamin d, and iron. it might take months to completely fix deficiencies. if its toxicity, there are tests you can take too. toxic metal and oxalate issues are common. also, sugar and vegetable oils are bad. these things are toxic as well. keep in mind that when detoxing, you might experience even more brainfog. this is normal and temporary. if you want, you can coordinate with a professional practitioner knowledgeable about your condition, and do things slowly. it might take months to detox. if you rush things, you will feel awful.

I just followed this for 2 days. I'm sooo hungry! Bowls of broccoli, sweet potatoes, berries & some fish don't fill me up. This is crazy. And I'm not trying to lose any weight. Butter isn't as bad as she claims. We need fat, even if a little is saturated. Fish oil isn't the only answer & not all of it is so pure. Wish she recommended a good brand.

Isn't the brain made of saturated fat? Fish oil comes i a dark green bottle. Why? Because it's unstable and react with oxygen. Don't drink oxidized oils. Eat stable fats. Eat fish. Eat grasfeed meat. It has omega 3 in it. Lower your consumtion of omega 6 and you need less omega 3. If there was a great need for omega 3 from fish all cultures living inland would die of and there would only be people around lakes, rivers and seas. We can get the omega 3 we need from grasfeed meat. Algae makes omega 3 with help from the sun. But so does also grass.

Anyone can learn to hoop! The best but if advice for anyone starting out is to buy a very big, heavy hoop. 38-40” is a good size to start. It matters more than you’d think, having the correct hoop size to start out that is. If you endure a little frustration, hooo through some bruises (unavoidable at first) eventually you’ll get your timing perfected and that will no longer happen. Before you know you’re buying a smaller hoop and progressing on. :)

@@felipeb1032 Budget for nutritious food? Explore the produce department. Most raw fruit and vegetables cost under $1.50 a pound. That makes for 75% of your daily meals right there. Most stores sell basic chicken for $1.00 a pound, ground pork $2.00 and mackerel, sardines, safe tuna for quite cheap. Compare that to the cost of the crap you may be eating. Donuts, cake, chips, pizza, sandwich meats and cheese, crackers, dips, sodas, beer, wine, hamburger helper, jalapeño poppers, bacon wrapped sausage. fried rice, enchiladas, banquet frozen dinner, ice cream, yogurt, dairy milk. These things generally cost more per pound than healthy stuff. Seriously. The American public is being sold a bill of baloney when it thinks the common SAD food habit is cheaper than the sane and healthy diet. For a tiny example: Potato chips are $1.00 for 7 ounces. An apple is .50$ for 8 ounces Start seriously doing your own food math.

Growing up in the 60s I had a neighbor that regularly made his own red wine. He kept it in a large wooden barrel in the basement. He would drink like 4 to 5 large wine glasses of it every day. He used to tell us kids that this was the key to his good health. I still remember him saying that we kids will be doing the same thing when we get to be his age. He would also eat cheeses, I'm not sure if it was on a daily basis. His wife used to buy the cheeses and bread at the local italian delicatessen. He and his wife also grew tomatoes, basil, a variety of peppers, and spices in their back yard. He lived healthy into his 90s. My grandpa was around his age and would drink chilled vodka shots regularly, sometimes with beer. For breakfast it was not uncommon for him to have like 6 or 7 eggs with thick-cut smoked bacon, 2 slices of toast (w/butter), sometimes with navy beans or sometimes with grandma's potato hash, and sometimes include a tin of sardines into the mix! In my life, I have yet to see another man eat so much and stay so thin. But despite his advancing age, he always stayed active. He was always finding something to do. As a kid I would watch my grandfather do yard work for HOURS at a time, repair the fence, pull weeds, paint the foundation, mow the lawn, sweep the patio, stuff like that ---- often in the intense summer heat. He would sometimes consume like 2 or 3 bottles of beer during all this work. His age would have been 65 thru 76 during these years. Well into his 70's he was thin, still played golf occasionally and bowled once or twice every week. At night he would retire with a detective novel and then the bible, then a prayer before going to sleep. He also smoked until he was about 70 then gave it up for good (but he was not a heavy smoker, maybe a pack a week max). Never had cancer, heart disease, diabetes, Parkinsons or anything like that. Spent very little time in the hospital (once in his 40's for appendicitis) And grandpa still lived to be 93. We always say grandpa likely would have lived past 100 if he hadn't smoked. So I'm sticking with my 2 to 4 glasses of red wine daily, sorry.

I grew up i Italy. There is a difference in what people know of Mediterranean diet in America versus the way we eat in Europe. The number one difference is that we wait for seasonal fruits and vegetables therefore we follow nature’s seasons. In April, in italy we eat asparagus, in Germany restaurants advertise the arrival of the white asparagus in Italy we look forward to the “wild” green asparagus (frittata di asparagi). If you go to France or Italy or Germany or other cities you’ll find locally grown produce. Additionally people seem to live longer because the walk almost daily to the neighborhood store to buy fresh meat or fish and to find fresh produce. There is no need for the huge 2 door refrigerators to store vegetable for 15 days because they will not be fresh after 5 days. To live well it is better to follow old customs. My last comment: potatoes and polenta are popular in the northern regions where the winter season is longer and people need those carbs. Meat is also necessary in their diet. You eat ice cream in Italy in the afternoon when your are out for a walk but not every day. Pastries are eaten to celebrate a birthdays or other festivities. Pizza is a midday snack, again, just one slice, when you are out running errands. This is just a window in the life of Italians and other Europeans in general. You can call it the Mediterranean diet but is not what is being prescribed here in the States where people eat in large portions and cannot nor want to eat a variety. Americans think first about fast food because they can’t wait, because they don’t know a product, because they are young, they are busy inventing apps, working like robots, they have produced several children without a plan for themselves let alone their children. These are people who will be obese and of their children will obese.

Understand this - every plant is a carbohydrate. A plant-based diet is generally very good for you. Its when the carbohydrates are processed and refined that is the problem. These are typically referred to as empty carbohydrates, and which quickly turn into sugar in the blood stream, significant sustained consumption of which can lead to metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance and ultimately, diabetes. So its the refined carbohydrates that should be eaten sparingly or as little as possible. But carbohydrates in their original, natural form (i.e., plants) are typically very good for you.

Instead, eat greens, beens, mushrooms, seeds, berries, unions and always add herbs and spices. A whole food plant based diet is what is best for you. Don't forget to supplement B12 and iodine. @Michael Craig McGee It is not black and white. You can still eat a whole food plant based diet and not take in B12, as long as you keep some soil on it. Or eat meat and accept health risks and still be B12 depleated because most meat is B12 depleated. Or go plant based and eat B12 fortified refined products. If health is your goal WFPB with B12 supplements is the safest way.

Saturated fats aren't that bad as she says. Some new research says they're actually not that bad for heart as previously thought. And they're great for cooking/frying/baking - anything in high temperatures. Much better than unsaturated oils, which are great until treated with high temperatures (they are unstable and oxidise easily). Vegetable oils (eg canola oil) are usually refined that is they're already treated with heat, so they're not healthy at all. Unless cold pressed, still shouldn't be used for cooking/baking though.

For me it is the healthy Ketogenic eating plan and intermmitent fasting , and use saturated fats to be able to utilise my fat-soluable vitamins etc. Your diet is rich in oily fish but we don't get much of that where I live so I take cod liver oil tablets, nutitional yeast, wheatgrass juice powder and spirilina, plus sea kelp granules, wheat germ, epsom salts, and a few other food based supplements. The grains are a problem because the bran blocks zinc uptake, and refined carbohydrates are no longer part of my diet. I eat mostly sour fruit and I don't usually have snacks and if I do they are fat because this hardly raises insulin. I recommend Dr Eric Berg, he is holistic and knowledgable. Deb

If you enjoyed this video, you may also want to know about some mistakes people commonly make in trying to fix gut health! They include: adding a probiotic to help with excessive gas and bloating (that's just one piece of the puzzle), eliminating a food for 4 days and expecting it solve the issue (will take at least 2 weeks), and not thinking about root causes!

@All or Nothing Both of those work! There are still products that are processed even in these diets, but for the most parts it's the carbs that are the bad guys. When you're doing these diets you're eating more fat than a regular diet so it's important to make sure your fat is from a healthy source, such as olives, coconuts etc. There are so many types so I'd just Google them to find which ones fit your needs the most as olive oil isn't that great for frying.

I'm 22:26 minutes into this & i already see contradictions proving she's following the standard American death sentence. It seems as though she understands the goal but her med school programming is so engrained that she will go on to mislead everyone. You can not lower blood sugar or insulin with lots of healthy fruit & veg. A video like this should distinguish those strictly for individuals with healthy blood sugar. @ 22:26 she's about to try to convince us that some special form of whole grain can do something good for blood sugar & brain health. This is where i give thumbs down & switch off. This is categorically WRONG. This is the backbone of the standard American death sentence & the recipe for your mulit billion dollar medical sickness industry. I'm sorry but, i'm offering constructive criticism. If you have a health issue- KZbin "that issue" & "Dr Ken Barry". That's where you'll find unbiased dietary truth.

Maybe at this point you might be right: "A video like this should distinguish those strictly for individuals with healthy blood sugar." I eat whole grain (from my grinder in my home) since I started thinking about good food 35 years ago. My health couldn´t be any better (exept my eyes). I avoid white sugar totally and get good olive-oil always. I`m 67 now and live in Germany.

When showing "Foods to Limit" they should be foods to AVOID altogether, because they are scientifically engineered to defeat even the strongest of will power and very seldom can you stop at one cookie or one donut, all refined carbohydrates like these, lead to severe cravings that would not be there if those foods were not eaten in the first place. Fasting and eating nothing at all would be preferrable to eating anything pictured in your "Foods to Limit" picture. I am not even going to include them other that to say "Avoid these foods at all costs" "They are slow Kill foods" Wheat is weaponized, all corn and soy in the United States, unless specifically labeled as organic, is GMO and very hazardous to your health. That includes the fructose sweeteners and corn oil, canola oils, all of which are in those types of killer foods.

'Balanced diets' are the problem. There is 0 requirement for carbs in the diet, mixing carbs and fats pushes the randle cycle to store energy into the fat cells. Now there are multiple requirements to keep a brain healthy such as sleep etc but damage to the brain is done by lack of building blocks (quite common in high plant consumption diets like vegetarian and vegan diets), high consumption of carbs (again often linked to plant based sources, regardless if you talk 'whole foods' or not), the last is high AGEs or Advanced Glycation End Products (again the highest sources of this is PLANT polyunsaturated fatty acids, you know them as being common in Vegetable oils, olive oil etc). Dementia was a rare condition prior to the introduction of vegetable oils in the mid 19th century and limited to the very old, when symptoms more specific to Alzheimer started appearing it was the early 20th century and the cases continued to ramp up consistent with our increased consumption of vegetable oils. Fast forward to the late 1960s to the mid 1970s RCT studies on substituting a small amount of daily saturated fat (mostly from animal products) with plant poly unsaturated fatty acids (you know the 'heart healthy' fats....). In these RCTs that ran over several years both of them found conclusively that this is dangerous to do so. The first study, The Sydney Diet Heart Study found a 62% increase all cause mortality, heart attacks and other issues when the poly unsaturated fatty acids were swapped in. The second study done in Minnesota found a dose response to the lower LDL cholesterol was lowered the higher the all cause mortality resulted from this change. This was purely by using the plant vegetable oils as a replacement for animal saturated fats. Mediterranean diets are a fake diet. These diets are based on post Marshall Plan (the period after WW2 where most animals were killed or stolen in this area), this resulted in replacement of fats like Lard with Olive Oil in cooking. When Keys did his research he targeted when the Orthodox Greeks were in Lent and thus avoided Red Meat (the Orthodox Greeks can fast or food limit between 160-200 days a year, outside of that if say red meat is available they gorge on it). The Nitrogen type in bones (N15) have always indicated that Greeks have always had a high animal food intake through history. Some of the best lived peoples in these areas eat animals and fermented dairy as the major part of their diet at least up to recently. The amount of 'leafy greens' never existed until the Romans when they modified bitter mustard and started to make what we see today. Greens were not an active part of our diet, berries were an opportunity food, seasonal at best. Nuts too were rarely consumed and again seasonal. Plus these nuts, seeds, legumes were fermented, sprouted and long cooked etc in these regions to lower the toxins these foods carry. Eating a few kidney beans raw can kill you for example, we didn't evolve to eat this. Whole grains contain more toxins than processed grains. An example is in rice, brown rice can contain high amounts of arsenic and other toxic substances while white rice is low in these (just really high in starch which converts to glucose). Anti-oxidants are often not absorbed or shown to work in other models but no evidence of working in human models, anti-oxidants from Tumeric for example are not naturally absorbed in our gut. Plants don't want to be eaten so the leaves and seeds are normally very high in compounds designed to damage animals that try to consume them. Fiber is contra-indicated outside of really weak epidemiology studies. The main study on this was a RCT on people with bowel conditions such as GERD, IBS, constipation etc. The study was quite small (n = 64) and divided into high fiber, moderate fiber, low fiber and zero fiber diets. In the high fiber diet, no resolution and in some cases worsening of symptoms, moderate fiber either no change or some improvement, low fiber some resolution to some cases of complete resolution and zero fiber had complete resolution of issues. There might be specific reason a person has some fiber in their diet but don't believe people quoting the weak 'science' of document studies like the person presenting. She also didn't talk about Taurine, this is important for brain health that is more required as we get older, it is one of the few supplements that should be recommended especially as you age. She also goes with the insanity of low fat dairy. Dairy is a great source of fats, especially in a low carb style diet if you can handle dairy. Dairy does give a dopamine response and a person may find increasing intake of dairy over time and may over consume in calories. It is one of the weaknesses people who do well on carnivore diets have is this overconsumption. One way to overcome this is eating windows such as intermittent fasting or one meal a day etc. Eggs are a superfood (as is organ meats but some like myself find it hard to palate organ meats, liver for example provides so much benefit to people in their diet), her comments on cholesterol shows how little she understands about the topic. Eggs are high in cholesterol, but your body generally does not use more then 20% of its total cholesterol as a dietary component. Extra cholesterol is not added to the LDL lipoprotien particle. Case studies of people living off just standard chicken eggs (not free range or cage free it is believed just the usual cheap ones in the super market) where they eat around 2 dozen eggs a day for decades with no health issues detected. In one case an elderly man ate 25 eggs a day for about 3 decades and was still alive at the time of the case study, no issues and had outlived both parents by some years at that point. Omega 3 fortified eggs are NOT a good option. Chickens are mongastric like pigs and humans this means absorbed fats are minimally modified when incorporated into the products we use. Omega 3 supplements go rancid fastest out of the poly unsaturated fatty acids with it only really remaining stable in animal fats or especially in salmon (the red colour has something to do with how the omega 3 is stabilised). They extract the omega 3 and then add it to the chicken food rather than naturally increasing the omega 3 fats in the food from say other animal sources. Insects and mealworms for example are a good source of omega 3s for chickens to use.

A very nice lecture to encourage us to eat more plants. A diverse array of whole food plant based nutrition without alcohol or coffee and additional vitamin B12 with exercise can be adequate for every age for excellent organ health. Fish does not make omega 3, it comes from sea plants and chicken(40-50% saturated fat) does not make B12 which is made from soil microbes. We need to stop eating other sentient beings otherwise don’t be angry if others eat dogs. Why milk? Most humans get ill after drinking milk and humans are not calves. Cows do not consume human or wolf milk to grow muscles or for their survival.

You guys are absolutely right. Our problem in the US is not under consumption, it’s the opposite and over consumption. I was a certified personal trainer at Lifetime Fitness once long ago, and what opened my mind and heart was listening to a radio. A preacher went to Africa for a mission trip and a child came up and said, “preacher is it true that in the US people pay money to lose weight?”..................... Let’s just say everything we do in life comes down to taking full responsibility of our actions, owning it, learning and doing proactive activities to improving it.
