I suppose it is subjective but for me but for a lot of players drums don't sound good when players really wack them. They sound better with control, it can be loud but must be controlled.. The player makes a big difference, often the groove breaks up and sounds bad when really hit hard. A great player can make a drums sound fantastic from quiet to loud but not go outside their ability to keep it sounding good.

@@micb3rd I agree, It's all in context. Sometimes it propels the song by beating the piss outta everything for a bit, But dynamics and note placement IMO are what really makes a drummer a fellow "songwriter" (Whether they get credited is a different story) and an essential element of the whole.

@@DPW13 I am very happy i could be of help man! And with your attitude you're definitely gonna get there! I'll tell you a little anecdote of me going through a barrier with drumming. So i was drumming for a few years, had this little band, we played live, our songs were nothing too crazy but i was definitely doing my best to become the best drummer i could possibly be. So there i was one evening, looking on facebook and i saw this add of some good metal band in my area, they were looking for a drummer. My current band was kinda dying, so i was looking for something new. I listened to their material and it just blew my fucking mind. Crazy fast double bass, blast beats as well in some songs. Epic sounding metal. I myself was mainly playing Avenged Sevenfold at home at that time to improve, The Rev's drum parts inspired me very much, plus it was challenging for me to play so i was getting better. Anyways, i thought to myself, man i am not nearly good enough to be the drummer of this band. So i just let it pass. Literally the next day i had a message on Facebook from one of the guitar players from that band, asking me if i wanted to try out for them, he said he saw me play with my other band and figured i had the skills to be in their band. So i was kinda freaking out, but there was no way i was gonna say no! Right? So i said fuck yes i wanna try out, give me like 2 weeks to figure out some songs and I'll be there. The next 2 weeks were my most challenging ever drumming wise. I was trying to figure out how to play stuff that i didn't know how to play, but i spend every free second i had doing it. 2 weeks later i showed up at their rehearsal, very confident, because i had actually fucking done it. I learned their songs. So we talked for a bit, then i sat down behind the kit and i nailed it. After one set they all looked at eachother and were smiling and all they said was, i think we need to look no further, right? So they all agreed i could join. There's more to tell after that, but i feel like I wrote half a book already xD The point is, i know what i said is true, because i have experienced it first hand. It just takes time and dedication, and you will accomplish what you want to accomplish. And that goes for pretty much anything in life. Ps. If you would be interested in listening that band that broke a barrier for me, it was : The Great Below We broke up many years ago, no drama, the singer left after a while and with the new singer it wasn't really working out and people lost motivation for that project sadly.

I don't know this tune at all, but I think making Greyson angry and off-balance really helped how he interpreted the drum part.
