Not only is their style super unique, but vessels voice is so unique and specific to the ear that you can immediately tell that it’s him. I feel like it’s rare for vocalists to not only have that much talent, but the ability to be recognized almost immediately without hesitation. These songs absolutely blew me away I can only hope that they continue to pump out consistent bangers like this.

I love that you addressed the “heavy vs not heavy” discourse. It’s so tired. Especially for a band like Sleep Token, where they have SO much more to offer than how heavy they go. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the heavy moments in Summoning - but it’s because they fit so well into the overall arrangement, not just because it’s an arbitrary heavy section.

Chokehold to me is already so special itself (especially something like chirping birds at the very beginning and of course the lyrics "...it's all the same to me...", "even if it hurts me..."), but The Summoning even topped that to me. Possibly the most contrasting track I've listened to. After the breakdown that just tore me, I got to the leads and the ending which slightly brought me to tears. Strong contenders for the "single of the year" imo.

Everyone is crazy over summoning and I am too but I have a special place in my heart for chokehold in a way that I've never had for any other song ever before in a way that's not even close of a competition. It's unlike any other song I've ever heard and I've been a musician since I was a kid.

I was in the middle of working when The Summoning popped up on my feed. I literally froze for the entire six and a half minutes it played, utterly transfixed and blown away by what I was hearing. Needless to say, I've since checked out all of their music (which is all fantastic. Some great music videos. Particularly the creepy spider demon). But The Summoning has been on repeat for me almost non-stop since the day it came out. I cannot get enough of it. Thank you for your reaction and observations!

This reaction was everything I had hoped for. Actually laughed a lot at your "excuse the groove" part! Chokehold was nice but not up there in my favourites! The Summoning was really good. Love the heaviness and the clean style was my favourite for Vessel to do! Controversially I wasn't a massive fan of the extended funky outro, it felt quite jarring to me as I was not expecting that. It has definitely grown on me after a few listens! Glad you have really enjoyed both. Excited to see how high this places on your list at the end of the year!

In my opinion, these two new songs that Sleep Token put out are some of my favorites that this band has ever released, especially The Summoning which actually maybe my favorite song from this band now. I'm trying to avoid recency bias because of much hype these new songs are bringing. The shock on your face at 7:49 when he did that scream really says something how well they did with the song structure! I don't think I've really ever seen you this shocked in the 2 years I've watched your reaction videos. If the rest of the new songs sound just as good as these two that just came out, it's going to be really hard for any band to top Sleep Token's album! 2023 really starting off with a bang.

it was definitely one of the biggest shock moments for me! ATLVS - 'Comethazine' with their cleans in the breakdown. Spiritbox - 'Eternal Blue' with the solo in the breakdown. Those are some of the only things that come to mind. like, I know Vessel can scream as they have it in their discography and when i saw them he even whipped out some extra screams that aren't normally in the songs but THIS? totally unexpected. loved it

I think with the new producer, the guys are able to stretch more, and show fans and newcomers their passion and range that they can go to. Now, I know ASF is not in the same genre, but The Rev was one of my favorite guitarists, but dayum... the Sleep Token guitarist is amazing, and the singer's RANGE! That second, higher scream! Just listening to it, I felt like he pulled that from the back of the throat, putting his full power into it.

I know the general consensus is everyone loves the Summoning. But for me Chokehold is so much more special; the first every Sleep Token song I ever heard was Jericho and I was absolutely shocked by the contrast between the ambient, haunting and almost hypnotic first half and the chunky grooviness of the second half. Chokehold is very reminiscent of that but a little more contemporary (touches of Vildhjarta in the riffs ?? and the absolutely gorgeous vocals from Vessel) cant wait for the album and as a very early listener (I stil lremember when they released sundowning week by week!) i am SO proud and happy that they are getting the recognition and hype they deserve
