Sleep Token is just musically something very fresh and something unique. It hasn't been done before and every member of the band is extremely talented. They have insane variety in their songs and simply put musically it's just very well put together. Not to mention how insanely good they are live.

@@causewhynot284 I don't know about ID though it's definitely a funk/jass/blues inspired bit. But to the OP comment about "it hasn't been done before" I would kind of disagree. The idea of metal riffs blended with a more pop/r&b/etc sound has been done before. In fact, my personal similarity for Sleep Token would be Breaking Benjamin, in the broad sense. The idea of blending clean vocals with a more pop/rock radio feel, and then transitioning into heavy metal riffs and scream vocals. Which is a lot of what ST does. Breaking Benjamin has been doing that for several decades now. I'm not saying they sound so similar that ST is ripping them off or anything, but the overall song structure is very similar. Clean vocals and guitar lines, sounds straight off of some current rock radio station, then in the last 25% of the song or so, they unleash the metal dogs, and layer that onto the established traditional rock song.

As Johnny said, they’re an anytime band. I’ve been struggling with some self-esteem related depression lately, but for some reason when Chokehold dropped it was like a switch. It doesn’t really make sense, but there’s something about this band that just does wonders for my mental health.

I'm over the moon to see this band blowing up as much as they are. As of the time of writing, they've deservedly multiplied their number of listeners prior to these singles launching roughly sevenfold. I'm really disappointed that their show in Sydney in April has sold out and I didn't get tickets, but I'm also super happy for the band that they are seeing such success the world over. It's funny how everyone just unanimously agreed all of a sudden that Sleep Token are just THE BAND to keep an eye on at the moment. P.S. Johnny, it's time to disown your kids.

What makes this band so amazing is that they create very very solid hooks and an easy to follow progression of their music. Once they've achieved that - they add in subtle elements in the background that really glue the piece together. In this song, an example of that is the subtle 2 to 3 notes they have firing off right after the snare. Very Anjunabeats - very subtle placement, but effective in building tension. These subtle background elements are things that electronic music does extremely well. I've always said this - but metal and things like trance, dubstep and more progressive dance music have so much in common and mesh together really well.

They're a band that can just seamlessly blend such different genres in ways that flow together so well. You can argue that bands like Paledusk, and even Polyphia in a small way do the same, but for Paledusk, the blending is chaotic, and it's supposed to be. Sleeptoken, whether it's sad or sexy, is completely mired in emotion. And as Johnny said the first time I was introduced to ST, "It's going to make you feel things".

@Audard and TOOL isn't really prog rock. My point is that while there's all this stuff emerging in the Metalcore scene these guys dabble with elements but grow alongside as something completely different. Tool did the same to grunge and rock in their early years. They'll be massive in a few years.

I got lucky my girls 6 and 14 love sleep token and most of the other bands I love lol. Took my 14 yr old to see bring me the horizon in Sept she lost her shit and my 6 yr old got to go see motionless in white and ice nine kills on the 1st leg of trinity of terror for her 6th bday and she's now hooked and want to go to more concerts lol

While I don't think there's anything especially revolutionary about Sleep Token's sound, I think they're a great example of refinement. Every level, from presentation, to performance, to production shows a level of professionalism and thought well above the average. Plus, it's all clearly intended to be palatable to a wide slice of listeners, which I think there's value in. As you say, music you could pop on any time.

I had a hard time getting into them at first. I always get like they were missing something within their songs to really give me a selling point to hop on the bandwagon. The last four songs they’ve released have been some of their better work to me atleast. I’m glad they’ve taken a little bit more of a heavier tone lately with the breakdowns/vocals and can’t wait for this album to come out
