Haha, I've got to say, I'm feeling pretty flattered that my request turned into such an epic apology video to me! When I mentioned that these Offerings were live videos of II, I definitely didn't expect it to turn out like this. What a pleasant surprise! It ended up being way more epic than I ever imagined. I said in my comment on your first reaction to "Hypnosis," the one with Vessel's vocals, that I believe the more you listen to "Hypnosis", the more it might grow on you. And that did kind of happen here. But not only did you end up liking it even more, but you also gave it the highest score for a Sleep Token video yet. In fact, not just the highest score for a Sleep Token video, but quite a high score in general considering your new scoring system where you are tougher than you were before with your scores. Very impressive! I loved how this went beyond a typical reaction video. It had a nail-biting quality that added some genuine suspense! Plus, the way you switched to another setup with a different video screen with the Vegas video editor just to verify the authenticity of the live performance was something I don't think I've seen in your other reviews. Honestly, it made my day to see all this happen here in a request of mine. Another cool moment was when you did something pretty rare for you. At the end, while II was wrapping up the Offering video with his in-character performance, you actually said it was “a little creepy.” Normally, you tend to stay focused on the music unless it's a live show or a requester tells you to pay attention to the video. But this time, it was refreshing to see you react to something genuinely in the video that wasn't music-related. It might not be a huge deal in any other person's video, but in the context of your usual style, it really stood out! You know, this video is actually pretty significant beyond just your reaction. It really helps to show anyone who might think that II isn't playing live that they're totally mistaken. Also, in retrospect, it is funny that at one point you were you were pleading for II to “give you something to prove” he was actually playing live, when he was doing it right in front of you the whole time! Haha! II is so skilled in his craft that he can make it seem like a studio recording instead of a live performance! Given this realization you now have that II really is playing live in his Offering videos, I'm really curious if you might consider doing rare reevaluation videos of the previous two Offerings from II, “Alkaline” and “Like That.” As you yourself said here, realizing that these videos showcase II playing live "changes a lot." I don't know if you'd be up for it, but I think it's worth seriously considering since your scores on those were based on a big misunderstanding of what you were reacting to and reviewing in those Offering videos. Going back to your (very high) score and your thoughts on how the song felt better without Vessel's vocals. You mentioned something similar in your reaction to II's Offering of "Alkaline." Vessel's vocals seem to be somewhat controversial in the Metal community. Personally, I feel very differently. I really appreciate his vocal work and I believe it's such an important element in Sleep Token's songs that it's a big part of what takes them to such great heights. I am someone with a very wide taste in music, so I am very impressed by Vessel's range and versatility in singing styles so I love what he brings to the table. But for those who aren't fans of his vocals, keep in mind that Vessel's contributions go beyond just singing. His songwriting, composition, and the guitar and bass work are all part of his package. That said, David, I still really think, as I said before, that the version of "Hypnosis" with Vessel's vocals will grow on you over time. Interestingly, in your reaction to II's Offering of "Like That," you mentioned that you might have enjoyed it less without Vessel's vocals. So it just goes to show how Vessel's singing doesn't actually take away from the quality of Sleep Token's songs as some Metalheads might initially feel. All that being said, this video actually turned out to be one of my favorites you have ever done. It's really awesome! Plus, it makes me feel even better about the direction I chose for your exploration of Sleep Token. A video like this, like many others before this one, would not have happened the way it did had we taken the clichéd (and in my opinion misguided) road of a front load of random tracks from "Take Me Back To Eden" followed by another random order of tracks from their previous albums. The way I've made you approach Sleep Token has been way more fulfilling. And for those who listened closely to the intro of David's first reaction to "Hypnosis," I made it clear that this is the last track he'll react to from "This Place Will Become Your Tomb." So, you can easily guess what tracks are coming the next time he reacts to Sleep Token. ;) Finally, everyone! Please make sure to tune in tomorrow to David's channel here! As I said in the intro here, as great as this video was, it is just part one of a two-part series. Tomorrow, David will be reacting to the Drumeo video, where drummer Greyson Nekrutman takes on a Drumeo challenge to do his own rendition of the drum parts to "Hypnosis." It should be a fun reaction video from David. Hope to see ya there!

Damn, I might have enjoyed reading your comment as much as I have enjoyed the video's climax lol Great approach, I have never watched this guy react to sleep token, clicked because I was intrigued by the length of the video and here I am now, invested in Dave vs. II (greatly represented by Charles B.) saga. Probably need to watch the other reactions as well and that's only because of your comment

There are no cymbal chokes in the studio version

It’s great to see that at the end of the video you actually could appreciate the master that II actually is at playing the drums!

You can also tell it’s a live play through because the cymbal hits are louder and more pronounced than in the studio track audio. There’s a clear difference there.

If you hit the cymbals with the stick at the same time you grip, it is an instant choke out. If you do don’t hit with the stick at the same exact time, you will get the sustain. II has mastered the craft in many of their songs.

Pretty sure these videos would have been recorded during the Take Me Back To Eden recording sessions and the performance was recorded live through the studio desk set up for the new album 🤫🤚❔ It was confirmed as 'No samples' by the guy who recorded their record (George - can't remember his surname), anyways it was on Craig Reynold's reaction to this video. 4:38 was a totally different fill on the offering to the album, but good catch with the ping. Edit: George Lever (I think). You see his studio on his KZbin channel. It's the same place as on the II offering videos.

It was the single ride bell hit in the middle of the fill.

This is why I prefer the Drumeo playthroughs of IIs on these songs since he plays the same arrangements that he plays live which are much more complex than the studio versions. He even talks about it during the interview how almost none of the Sleep Token songs are played the same way as the studio versions and he gives his reasons why.

It’s not even that there’s no ping, he doesn’t even do the fill on the studio recording

The section with the “ping” is also a fill that’s not in the studio recording. That alone tells me it’s an entirely different take. The “ping” also fits rhythmically, and to me it sounds like he’s hitting a closed hi-hat. The whole thing is clearly cleaned up in post production though.

Oh come on... You really think II needs to fake his drum playthroughs? Like others already said below - what you see is what you hear - no quantization, just basic engineering (EQ, Gates, Compressors etc.). The actual only thing that might be true, that we hear and see two takes spliced toghether. At 12:36 (in this reaction) we cut to a different take. You can tell if you watch the cut at 12:36 frame by frame, that in the first take II has his head tilted up, and in the second his head is tilted down at his drums. My guess would be, that he maybe didn't like the way he played that fill on his first take.

DAVID!!! Want your mind blown? Take 10 seconds and listen to that ping section again. It’s within a fill that’s not in the original version. Thus the ping was very likely on purpose. Not dirty playing. Most feel this was II’s track anyway. This was not a showcase for I. It’s II’s song.
@jdmmike7225

Definitely not dirty playing. He loves incorporating single ride bell hits into fills, does it in Rain, The Apparition, The Night Does Not Belong to God, The Offering and a few others.

He wrote the drum track. He recorded the drum track. He plays the song live every night, Here, he’s playing with an exactitude of precision… so WTF is the difference if he’s actually playing it live here?

At about 24min, this is like watching "Wings of Pegasus" get excited over vocals being on pitch, yet occasionally sharp or flat proving its live! It's nice to see that somewhere, facts still matter!~

I knew it was an excellent drummer. But this helped me to understand how good he really is. If you had a hard time believing it was real it shows his skill. Dumeo is really all about drums and drummers. I don't think they would pull that trick. It's kind of the point to see what the drummers can really do. I'd think it would hurt their reputation to fake it

This isn't a Drumeo video. This is 1 of 3 "Offering" videos from II from the official Sleep Token youtube channel. David has already reacted to the previous two videos of II's "Offering" videos which were "Alkaline" and "Like That."

You can also just tell that the playthrough is not quantized, a lot of slighltly off-time hits, especially on fills. Obviously there might've been some clean up of the audio in post, but everything on video matches with the audio. 10/10 faked playthroughs are quantized pretty much.
