I’ve been trying the pick up put down with my 5 month. He gets almost more upset/angry when I pick him up. I put him down he fusses but sounds like he’s trying to figure it out, then he starts crying because he can’t, I pick him up and try to soothe him but he gets louder more upset, finally he settles after a few minutes and I put him back down. The process just repeats. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi, I like your videos a lot but I have tried everything... I truly cannot afford these classes at the moment, so I'm assuming my question won't get answered since I have posted on a previous video over 2 months ago, and got no reply. 😔 1. Baby has acid reflux, therefore needs constant feeding, since she doesn't consume enough in the am hrs she makes up in the evenings (usually 2 feedings, sometimes 3) 2. Tried extending Nap time to 2.5-3hrs awake window(advice from another video). Baby slept 3 naps, 26-35 minutes. Since nothing puts her back to sleep (yes to white noise, dark room, sleep schedule, routine, )I rock her for 10-20minutes. She doesn't fall asleep.First I tried 1.5-2.5 awake window. Baby slept 4 naps 20-35 minutes. *when taking 4 Naps baby sleeps for 11hrs-11hrs15min. *when taking 3 naps, baby sleeps 12hrs (but naps do not pass 30 minutes in fact 1 or 2 will be 20-25 minutes * not teething *lots of love, attention and playtime. More than my previous 3 babies! My problem is baby is SUPER EXHAUSTED THE ENTIRE DAY, specifically after 1st nap. I have watched more than 10 videos. Baby is 5 1/2 months born at 38 weeks.

Hi Zooni! Thank you for your comment! At this age, you can gently start sleep training your LO. This means that you teach your LO how to fall asleep independently at bedtime and back asleep during the night. At this age night feeds are often needed, but there is a way to keep it short and sweet and gently decreasing the amount of feeding times. As it often can be a habit for the other 3 times and only hunger 1-2 per night. I would recommend starting with our age base sleep guide above, which will cover all the basics and help manage expectations at this stage. Implement the guide for 2 weeks straight and you should see improvements. It is often useful to teach your LO how to fall asleep independently, this will lead for them STTN and thus improving sleep all around! If you'd like more detailed assistance on how to teach your LO this skill, our program 21 Days to Peace&Quiet walks you through the steps. I will link the info below. I'd be happy to answer any additional questions about the program. Good luck mama! / Leena, BSMS Support Team www.babysleepmadesimple.com/21-days-to-peace-quiet-program

So my baby is 5 months old and I’ve been putting her to sleep at night with rocking her and giving her a bottle. But lately when I put her down when she falls asleep she wakes back up about 3-4 more times before finally going to sleep all the way , so every time she wakes back up I pick her up and give her the bottle till she goes to sleep all the way. Is this a good method? I really want her to start putting her self to sleep but I don’t know how.

Hello! This is such a great question. The key to avoiding night wakings (outside of normal night feeds) is to teach your daughter how to fall asleep independently without rocking or the bottle). If she falls asleep with the bottle, then she will need the bottle to fall asleep throughout the evening too. I am one confused mama. She naps throughout the day. She knows how to sleep on her own. Room is dark, white noise machine is on. HOWEVER, she will NOT go down for the night till 10-11pm. I tried putting her down earlier but she'll wake up after one nap cycle and cries and will NOT go back to sleep until10-11pm. Just today though I put her down around 6:30pm and she slept till 9:30pm and I fed her and put her back in the crib but she will NOT go back to sleep. I feel discouraged to even try the regular bedtime because she's waking up. If I put her to bed near 10-11pm, she'll sleep straight till 6am but I know that late bedtime is not sustainable. I'm so confused if I should be sleep training her at 10pm after she feeds and isn't going back to sleep, or if I'm just doing something wrong. Sometimes I wonder if she's sleeping too much during the day. Feeling so confused and lost. :(

Hi! You mentioned that she is on the 4 month regression mark, so I would work on slowly moving bedtime earlier by 15 mins per day and establishing a good sleep base. Once you're sure that the regression has fully passed and is not affecting the resistance level, then you can start with sleep training. Besides the links I linked previously, you could try establishing a calming nightly ritual earlier in the evening. Once you join the program, Jilly can help you with the specifics of your situation :) / Leena, BSMS Support Team www.babysleepmadesimple.com/exhausted-moms-survival-kit www.babysleepmadesimple.com/21-days-to-peace-quiet-program

Our program has 4 step-by-step methods that walk you through teaching your baby how to settle to sleep on their own, which will show them how to resettle during night wakings too. It also covers reducing and fully weaning off night feeds. With 3 of our sleep training methods you stay with your baby as you teach them to sleep better. You don't have to leave the room if you don't want to. And you can choose a slower, more gradual method to reduce your baby's resistance, fussing, and crying. We can't promise "no tears" but you can work to minimize baby's resistance. We also accommodate for your baby's temperament too. Each lesson has tips on tweaking the steps to suit your baby's energy levels, sensitivity, and adaptability. We are confident we can get you and your baby sleeping great. If her night sleep is going well and she is able to sleep through the night without needing your support you can begin to work on naps when she is 6 months old. Prior to that time, most babies are not yet ready to connect their nap cycles. For now, I would suggest trying to get her to nap in her crib but if she wakes up, you can use the carrier or rock her back to sleep and try again. Hello Ma’am. I currently have a 4 1/2 month old and he falls asleep on his on. It’s takes awhile, he plays with a lovey most of the time until he falls asleep. However, he recently went through his regression and now his sleep is after 2-3 hours he wakes up crying. Then falls back asleep for 20 mins then wakes up crying but won’t go back to sleep. Then around one he wakes up what feels like almost hourly and won’t go back to sleep on his own. Just cry’s. I don’t know much about sleep training. But if he falls asleep on his own, what should we do if he wakes up and doesn’t go back to sleep on his own? We have the room blacked out, white noise playing from a hatch baby. We tried using a 7 step program to calm him but it always leads to him getting fed or being rocked to sleep on the step plan. But he needs to fall back to sleep on his own😭😭

Hi Justin! Thank you for your comment. Sounds like you're on to a great path! The idea is to use the same tactic for night wakings that you use at bedtime. However at this age, it is quite normal to still night feed at this age, but make sure your LO doesn't use the breast or bottle to fall asleep. Keep it short and sweet AND quiet + dark. When talking about formal sleep training, we offer multiple options to choose from depending on your parenting preference and your LO's temperament. The idea is to teach your LO how to fall asleep independently at bedtime but also help parents find the right way for them to act when night wakings happen :) By fixing night sleep, you can start with naps at well. The regression can throw sleep of the rails for a while, I'll link a guide on that below for you to check out. I'll also link our program for you just in case you are interested :) www.babysleepmadesimple.com/4-month-sleep-regression-tips-video www.babysleepmadesimple.com/sleep-training-5-month-old-baby-tips www.babysleepmadesimple.com/21-days-to-peace-quiet-program Best of luck! / Leena, BSMS Support Team

Then we visited the in-laws a couple days ago and they would not let him nap. He went almost 5hours without sleep and he always gets naps every 2 hours so it was really hard on him. Since then he wakes every one to two hours. I dont know if it's coincidental timing and it is sleep regression or not getting that nap completely screwed his week up. What about if my baby falls sleep with a pacifier, she is 10 weeks I always put her awake in her crib I wanna create good habits but with the pacifier and when it falls… then she cries
@Babysleepmadesimple2 жыл бұрын
This is a very common issue at this age! Since little ones don't know how to replace the pacifier themselves, parents are left replacing it all night and it leads to night wakings. This will naturally stop being an issue around 9 months when baby develops the pincer grasp - i.e. when they will start replacing the pacifier themselves. It's up to you as a parent to decide whether you want to wean off it or not. If you DO want to wean off it, here are our tips: instagram.com/p/CUZviH9gqVB/ Also, here is a great article to help you with your baby's sleep in general: www.babysleepmadesimple.com/3-month-old-sleep-problems/ Artemis, BSMS Support Team

My baby goes to bed awake, on tummy, patting her butt. Then she wakes up and refuses to fall asleep back in crib. She just screams when we try to place her down. Why is that? Thank you
@Babysleepmadesimple2 жыл бұрын
That's because she needs you to pat her bottom to fall asleep, because she doesn't know how to fall asleep on her own. We can help you teach her how to fall asleep on her own in a gentle way in our sleep program here: www.babysleepmadesimple.com/baby-sleep-consultant This will get your baby sleeping through the night! We have a New Year's sale running now so you get 15% off when you use the coupon code '2022'! Be quick :) Also, I just have to mention that we always want to put babies down on their BACKS, not the tummy! Good luck, hope to see you in our program 💜 Artemis, BSMS Support Team

My baby sleeps thru the day n up all night with 30to40min naps every 2hrs. How do I shift this to night sleeping.
@Babysleepmadesimple3 жыл бұрын
Hello! I would definitely work towards an earlier bedtime. Move it UP 30-60 minutes every 2-3 days until your LO is at your desired time. :) Alyssa, BSMS Support Team

Should I blackout babies room during naps as well? First time mom and I’m struggling with sleep I’ve been putting my baby down to sleep with a night bottle since he was born and than rocking him on my shoulder BIG MISTAKE He goes to bed every night around 9-10 should I make it earlier? He has slept through the night plenty of times but every other night he’s waking up to feed he’s just all over the place. I’m going to try and do the white noise during nap times and bedtime I usually turn it off at night but we get so much street noise all night I live in ny and I don’t think that’s going to change! Hope you reply! Thanks for the video💙

Our 5 month old usually goes to sleep between 6-7pm however doesn't sleep longer than 3 hours (typically 2 hrs) between night feeds. She is solely breastfed and has an average of 3 -4 naps in the day (ranging from 20 mins to and hour) . At night, my wife tries to pick her up, give her her pacifier before ultimately giving her more breastmilk because she is simply whining and squirming. What could be the cause of this and how can we help our daughter prolong her night sleep to not have to wake up every few hours?
@Babysleepmadesimple2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for reaching out Damian. It sounds to us like your LO would benefit from learning to sleep independently and self-settle. When your LO has learnt this skill they will be able to link those sleep cycles without the need for your intervention. We can help you teach your LO how to do this in a gentle and gradual way in our course 21 Days to Peace and Quiet. www.babysleepmadesimple.com/baby-sleep-consultant Let us know if you have anymore questions, Clare, BSMS Support Team

I’m waving the white flag. I have her napping as she should in the day.. but she won’t go to bed before 9:30. Before her sleep regression she was sleeping 6 hours at night now she does 40minutes-2 hour intervals if I’m lucky. She’s in a dark room, right temperature, sleep sac, but she won’t let go if wanting the suce and/or wanting my arms and I don’t know how to get her out of the habit. I didn’t mind when it was once a night after a feee but I get no sleep anymore. And now she’s even not napping in the day. I was putting her down and she would sleep 1-1.5 hours and even fall back asleep if she woke up.

Thank you so much for reaching out to us! It is SO exhausting when our LO's are up so much in the middle of the night! If your LO is over 5 months old, she is developmentally ready to learn how to fall asleep independently. This is really the very best way to ensure that she falls asleep on her own and resettles independently in the middle of the night. We would love to support you in our 21 Days to Peace and Quiet program! HI! Breastfeeding to sleep is very common and completely normal. It’s not a problem, until it “becomes a problem” and you’re having to get up and feed your baby back to sleep many times at night. Once your baby reaches 5-6 months, it’s possible to teach them to self-settle to sleep. THIS will lead to long stretches of sleep at night, and STTN when your baby is developmentally ready. It won't necessarily be "easy" in that your little one may get upset learning a new way of falling asleep, BUT a few days of teaching independent sleep habits will lead to YEARS of peaceful and happy sleep for everyone. There are several ways of teaching your LO a new way of falling asleep. The best approach will depend on your LO’s temperament and your parenting preferences. This is what we help parents do everyday in the program, 21 Days to Peace & Quiet. You are welcome to join our step-by-step program here: www.babysleepmadesimple.com/21-days-to-peace-quiet-program / Leena, BSMS Support Team

I just started this 4 days ago with my 5 month old & she wakes up at 1am & 4am & sometimes earlier to feed ever since she was a new born until now & now I stopped feeding her & she will cry for hours & I feel so bad as a mom but her pediatrician says she shouldn’t be waking at all?! But I don’t see how it’s bad for me to feed her 1-3 times at night? Any tips? please help!

It is often useful to teach your LO how to fall asleep independently, this will lead for them STTN and thus improving sleep all around! Hi, my baby is 5 months and doesn't have a problem with falling asleep in the evening. The problem is between 12am-5am she moves the whole night, maybe it's wind or something but she moans in her sleep. Which keeps me up. Any advice on how to get her to sleep peacefully like she does from 7-12

Hi I want to try to get my 5 month old to self sooth I don’t mind trying the crying method when u leave them a few mins and check on them but I can’t get my partner onboard he is used to falling asleep in our arms then being put down but lately we wakes up within 10-20 mins and still wakes 2-3 times a night for feeding I suffer from sleep apnea so it’s really hard for me we take turns and do a night each. Thinking of trying some of ur methods but then know for a fact there is going to be a lot of crying involved I hope some of these methods will help I really need a good nights sleep.

Is this a good age to get rid of a soother? I feel like along with a bedtime routine blackout room and White Noise this either has become part of the nap and nighttime routine and I’m worried that it’s going to be a negative sleep association or that we’re going to have major issues getting rid of it down the road. While teaching baby to sleep on their own does that include self soothing without the soother?
@Babysleepmadesimple5 жыл бұрын
Hey Courtney. There is no right age to wean off the pacifier. And some babies can learn to sleep great using a soother. If your baby can use it to fall asleep, but not need your help replacing it many times overnight, it’s ok to keep it. You want to consider weaning off the pacifier for sleep when you’re having to get up several times at night to replace it for your LO. Or if your baby continues taking short naps despite nap training. At 7-8 months babies develop the pincer grasp (where they can grab a small object between their thumb and forefinger or middle finger.) When your baby can do this, work on having baby replace the pacifier on his/her own. Sprinkle several pacifiers around the crib so baby can always find one in the night. That way, you may not need to wean off the soother sooner than you or baby want.

Hello! So my son is 5 months & knows how to sleep on his own. His first nap is great he usually sleeps 1 1/2 - 2hrs. It’s the last two naps that he has difficulty staying asleep. He wakes up screaming and it doesn’t even matter when I put him down. It could be within the 1 1/2 hr awake time or the 2 1/2 hour time. It’s like the later naps he doesn’t want to sleep which always throws off his bedtime (7pm). I’m always having to move it up. What could be the cause?
@Babysleepmadesimple5 жыл бұрын
Hey there Chanttel. Maybe he needs a shorter morning nap so his drive to sleep builds and is stronger in the afternoon. Try waking him after 1 hour 15-30 mins from the morning nap for one week and see if his afternoon naps come easier. Go with awake times of 2 hours too. Let me know how this goes.
