We're trying as gently as possible. Putting him down for naps in his crib and trying to comfort him back to sleep if he wakes too soon. The new behaviour was like a light switch.. I have a 7 week old (my first child), thanks to your information I've learned so many things I did 't know before. I believed so many of the myths. Such as babies needing to be able to sleep in a noisy environment, and I didn't know that even though they might look asleep that it's their way of coping with busy surroundings. It's helped me get my baby girl in quite a good sleeping rythm. Some of my family (particularly mother in law) thinks I'm a little too uptight about her sleeping patterns and her sleeping in a dark and quiet area instead of the busy area of the house during the day, but so far she's extending her night sleeps from 11 - 3 'o clock sleep to feed, to 11 - 4:30! So far so good... Also my MIL was over a few days ago and was holding her for 3,5 hours... I have trouble standing up for myself and let it go for this once, and boy did I regret it. She cried from the afternoon when my MIL left to her late night feed. Never again!

There's another sleep regression phase around 8-9 months. My daughter is 8 months too and she's going through the same. It's connected to their drive to move and crawl. Baby wants to explore the world, but is suddenly starting to realize that this means, it's moving further away from their primary care giver and that's really scary! So, they are actually torn between "I want to crawl/ walk!" and "Help! Mommy or daddy are suddenly so far away!" and they need to process that during their sleep. It's not pleasant for us as parents, but it's absolutely normal and developmentally important!!!

This video is so helpful! My wife and I’s newborn just started sleeping well through the night at 6 weeks and we are definitely trying to get ahead of the 4 month sleep regression to make things easier. One question - can we still swaddle our baby at 4 months? When is it no longer recommended to swaddle your baby? Thank you again!
@EmmaHubbard Жыл бұрын
Glad the video was helpful. In regards to swaddling. It really depends. You want to stop swaddling when your baby is showing early signs that they are getting close to rolling over. The concern is that if they do roll over when swaddled they would not be able to use their hands to clear their face and could suffocate. So it is best to transition out of a swaddle when they are showing you that they are close to rolling over. If they have rolled you will have to go to having both arms out ASAP.

I think this obession with babies sleeping independently is really evil. It deprives babies of much needed affection. I also believe that nursing to sleep is so soothing for babies and I love it. There is something magical when the babies fall asleep while nursing. In my experience it does not effect their sleep either. It just a theory which is hard to prove. I will rock and nurse all my babies to sleep. That is a precious bonding time. My first was a terrible sleeper (honestly, I think I caused it bcs could not read his feeding and sleeping cues properly) and still nursed and rocked him to sleep. Now he is 2.5 years old and I have such sweet memories and bonding because of it.

Hi @Arudresh I would recommend taking him out of the swaddle first. It is important to do this now as you mentioned he has started to roll over onto his tummy. @EmmaHubbard2 жыл бұрын
Hi Elle! Yes, absolutely! If your little one was previously only waking for 2 night feeds but is now waking f4 or 5 times, it is highly likely she is waking at these extra times because she is waking between sleep cycles and needing your help to fall back asleep. And not so much because she is extra hunger. So I would recommend trying to settle her in other ways at these times. Hope this helps.

Hi Emma, My baby is 9 months and is going through a sleep regression, is that normal as well? Can we approach it similarly? Thank you!
@EmmaHubbard3 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely. At 9/10 months little ones are more mobile (crawling/learning new skills), are also aware of separation anxiety and in the process of dropping a nap. This can lead to a sleep regression. You can approach the regression using the tips in this video but you just need to adjust the wake times and night feeds to suit a 9 month old. At 9 months your bub might be on a two nap schedule. So generally look for your little ones' tired signs after being awake for around 2 hours in the morning and again after being awake for around 3 hours after the first nap. Some 9 months olds may wake for one feed at night and some might not need a feed.

I try to do the sushing or patting but after 5 mn of i eventually give in and end up "feeding" her. She starts feeding but falls asleep right away and keep sucking through the night, if i try to get her off she will scream ! I thought we were done with that but its coming back now at 3 months

Thanks for another great video. Is there such a thing as a 10month sleep regression? Mine has gone super clingy and seems to know the moment I'm trying to put him down and the tears start. Sleep only lasting 30-60mins all night 😔
@EmmaHubbard3 жыл бұрын
Hi @Jay Fo yep another sleep regression is common at 9/10 months of age. This is when little ones tend to be on the move, peak or separation anxiety and they are also dropping a day nap (moving to 2 naps a day). This often results in a sleep regression. I will try and do a video on this topic soon. The tips in this video will help though (just adjust the number of night feeds expected to a 10 month old).

@@EmmaHubbard Thank you. Yes have taken your tips on board. We find making the room boring for him to be impossible though. At 4am he finds the air-conditioning vents, doors and even plain white walls exciting and wants to touch them and play 😅

My baby is approaching 5 months and he is waking 3 or 4 times a night and the only way he goes back to sleep with a feed I’ve tried these methods before resorting to a feed but if you have any more suggestions that would be great.
@Bold-Math3 жыл бұрын
If the only way your baby goes back to sleep is by a feed, most likely it is because of hunger. What I did was offering more milk/food during the day so that the baby's tummy has all the needed calories to last through the night without a feed. This solved the problem for me, no more night wakings.
@PayalDoshi3 жыл бұрын
@@Bold-Math interesting I do offer more during the day though.

Hi Payal I’m going through the same issue with my four month old Any tips what worked for you eventually?
@PayalDoshi Жыл бұрын
@@charu230 hi Charu, I think the next step was trying to have him attempt to put himself back to sleep. I fed in the night up until he was 15 lbs I think it was. Try the gentle sleep method too.

How do you make them nap in the day if they just won’t sleep? He’ll sleep for about 30mins in late morning but that’s literally it, we can’t get him to nap at all. This means he’s overtired every night and struggles to sleep

Hi! I am not sure how old your little one is but I do have a baby sleep course for 0 - 6 month olds which would help. Here is the link to the course in case you're interested: brightestbeginning.com/courses/peacefuldreams/

My little one goes down for the night at 8pm, then wakes up 30mins later and then doesn’t go back to sleep until 11pm. She has a good bedtime routine and we try to let her soothe herself back to sleep, but she just doesn’t calm down she’ll panic and she’s been doing this since 8months old and is now 9months old. She’s sleeps fine for her day naps so I have no idea why she does it at night😢😔 do you have any advice?

Too much day time sleep? Shouldn't have more than 2h30m total sleep during the day. Also, don't let them sleep after 2:30pm.

@@Lumin1116 she only gets 2hrs daytime naps but I’ll definitely try not letting her nap after 2pm thanks😊
@EmmaHubbard3 жыл бұрын
Hi @shanelle sullivan is your little one having 2 or 3 naps a day? It could be because she is overtired or not tired enough for sleep. If she is having two naps a day they generally wake, then have their 1st nap 2 - 2.5 hours later, then wake and the 2nd nap is 3 hours later and then they are awake for 4 + hours before bedtime.
@shanellesullivan62673 жыл бұрын
@@EmmaHubbard Hi, she has two naps a day, 1 in the morning and one in the afternoon her 1st is usually at 10:30/11am which last for an hour (sometimes she only goes for 30mins) and her 2nd nap starts at 2.30/3pm and again last for 1hour (1hr 30 if she only slept 30mins for the first nap) We usually wake at 7.30-8am, bedtime is 8pm.
@EmmaHubbard3 жыл бұрын
@@shanellesullivan6267 it might be worth trying to move that final nap forward. If she sleeps until 4.30/5pm then she will be going back to bed for the night after only being awake for 3hours and might not be tired enough. It might mean you need to shift the first nap earlier too.

Hi Emma! I have been following you before my daughter's birth..Now that she's been 4 and a half months Let me take you a week before I tried to stretchher daytime feed intervals.. So ,she was sleeping 3 times a day 30 to 45 mins naps but I used to feed her in every 2 hours or sometimes 1 and a half hour.during the day. 10 min feed from one breast only and for the next feed ,the other breast after every 2 to 2.5 hours. used to sleep through the night. A week ago, I tried to stretch the time between feeds.Since then, she hasn't been sleeping through the night and wakes up for feed, even if I have fed her at 12am.. :( She is now taking 6 min feed at every hour and then she asks for another one after 3 hours almost, which I try to stretch to make it 4. What do I do,I am not used to waking up at nights :( as she has been a good sleeper since the beginning.

My daughter used to sleep in her bassinet but then when she started scooting and rolling she started sleeping in the bed with us. (Only Bc we just got a new king size) this was around 4-5 month mark. Now she costeros and nurses to go to sleep. She sleeps for about 4 hrs then wakes up and only nursing her will calm her down. I would like for her to sleep in crib so I know she’s safe and won’t fall off bed. What can I do? I don’t want to do the crying out method 😭😭

He does not want petting or something else ,he will cry as a miserabel baby untill i take him .it is like his way or no way and no one will sleep. What i do ?!

Is it still normal for babies to still need a feed at night around 9 months old or is that 100% sleep association? Like other parents here, it's been really rough with my bebe waling every 2 hours and having a very hard time going back to bed. Thank you!
