Hello dan mate, I forgot you bought a drum 👌🏼 it looks like a 45/40 which is what i have. I have halved my pond size over the last yearish from 4k gallons to 2k gallons and im much happier now than before. Don't rush as you will regret it 💯 Aslong as your fish are healthy and the water is spot on they will be perfectly fine in the pool. Most of the bio film on your media has already died back due to cooler temperatures and lack of food to dont worry too much about heating. You are doing well just take your time. I have a amalgam uv in my drum and so i have positioned it so i can walk all around it to be able to change the bulb, so try not to cram too much stuff around it for cleaning and servicing. All the best buddy 👍

Thanks mate. Yeah I think it's that drum. Can't really remember. It's got an amalgam uv. I've made sure I've got enough space to get at it. Hoping to have 2500 gallons ish when I'm done. That's more than enough for me. I'll have some more updates coming soon. I'm digging as we speak now

hi Dan, yay you have started! You will be fine :-) . Any project, especially in winter, is always a 'I wish I had never started', but in no time you will do the new pond. Just an idea, I was limited in space heightwise, I have used a 3 tier drawers plastic unit, £12 in Homebase, for the temporary mechanical filter like a shower. I have drilled holes in each tray, attached the flex hose from the pump into the back of first drawer, purely mechanical and in your case, like mine, then the water goes directly into the IBC. Now I use the same system for temporary showers till I have the money to buy proper ones.

Thanks, yeah I might give something like that a try. Hard work in this weather but got the time so got to get it done

@@dannycurrie1 haha! I am stingly by nature. I rather keep my money than waste them on heat. Cold in my home and cold in the pond. No issues really except for growth. But I am happy with 50-70 cm koi. Bigger and I need to buy more filters :)

Cracking vid mate thoroughly enjoyed it. It'll all be worth it in the end bud. Make sure you cable tie your pipe to the IBC as if thats falls off you will drain the pool. They have a habit of moving them pipes with the pressure. Good luck with it 👍 Im sticking with mine no rebuilds for many years. No built in bottom drain or skimmer but massive over filtering seems to circumnavigate that. K1 bead to add next to my second line then thats me done 👍🤣🐟
@dannycurrie1
@dannycurrie1 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed it. More cocks ups to follow 🤣 that's a good shout on the cable ties. Gona do that now. Was in the filter shed earlier and I knocked the hose and it went all over the floor of the shed. K1 bead would be ace on your pond. You got a great setup now

Thanks dan , really looking forward to watching your journey , winter is best for any build , sit back and enjoy in the summer, good idea to insulate , 2'' on bottom 1'' on side walls minimum also helps to protect liner from any shape objects .the measurements you give for your new pond are spot on you won't want to expand on that in the future , enjoy

Looking forward to seeing your new filtration setup working, very jealous of the drum ! Will be following Gary Parkers setup and will be changing three of the chamber on my bay filter to fluidised K1 and moving my filtration to the end of the pond to box in to create a viewing platform.

The insulation wrap on your temporary pool should be silver side in...its supposed to reflect lost heat back, and a wrap of tape around the top would help to keep any warmer heat inside too...just trying to help👍

Great video mate, couldn’t you go gravity to drum from bottom drain and gravity to moving bed and pump to shower, just a thought, I ended up changing mine to this way around and works so much better, also I have an airated bd but I don’t use it anymore, it’s a pain, I have used to 8” air discs set to one side of the pond, so much easier to see the koi, just a couple of ideas, looking forward to seeing u all up and running with new pond bud, all the best Matt
@dannycurrie1
@dannycurrie1 4 жыл бұрын
I was planning on having it that way but because of the height of the ibc it would mean it would be less than half full. This way I can use more of the volume and also have a slower flow through the moving bed giving it more dwell time. The main with the bottom drain is to have it on a timer. Onlt coming on at night and while I'm at work. We will see how that go's. I'm digging now so hopefully get another update out next week

I've got 100l already from the old moving bed and eazy pod. I've bought another 100 ready to go in. I'll see how I go with that. Could get about 400l in if I need too. Probably a bit overkill. Was much cheaper than getting a custom smaller bio chamber made
@Veterankoi
@Veterankoi 4 жыл бұрын
@@dannycurrie1 The IBC will hold much more for the cost. There is a company close by to me that sells second hand ones for around £50. I've been looking at them for a while to use for a quarantine tank in the garage. As long as you've got the space its going to be way cheaper than purchasing something custom made. You've probably used all your money up on the Drum filter anyway :0) Like yourself, I wish I had dug mine deeper. I plan do so in a couple of years (when my other project is finished) Keep up the videos by the way.!
