This is a great comparison. I'd like to see a comparison with SleepHQ now or maybe when pro comes out. I think your analysis is fair for the version you were looking at. It has changed quite a bit since then.

This channel is great! I am in my 50’s and just had an MMA after doing the CPAP to BILEVEL to ASV dance. And I’m a petite Asian woman. I had figured out my OSA all on my own at age 36. I finally got to Christian Guilleminault, MD (RIP) and he said I had OSA unequivocally. Unfortunately sleep studies have been reduced to one damn number, AHI. My AHI was 22.1 and I was told it was mild. In REM the AHI was in the 50’s! They don’t care about flow limitations, arousals not associated with apnea or hypopnias quite frankly. If it weren’t for folks like Jason I’d be dead from a car accident or other. Did you know that a generation of us older folk were given sleep apnea by our orthodontists? If we had crooked and crowded teeth, rather than expand our upper palate and lower jaw, the orthodontist pulled adult teeth and squished our remaining teeth together thereby making our dental arch and mouth and hence oral airway smaller. I recall distinctly feeling worse and depressed etc in junior high and it coincides with when my four teeth were pulled and braces were put on in the 1980’s. Thank you so much to Jason and others who have helped me so much in my journey. People who are not chronically sleep deprived do NOT get it. It cracks me up when Sleep docs give you a follow up appointment in 6 months just because the AHi on your machine’s card looks “great” even though you feel like crap. Now that I know that Sleepyhead was replaced by Oscar I will try downloading it. Yes after my MMA I still use my PAP, but that’s because my face was really messed up by God and my orthodontist. Christian Guilleminault told me that my palate needed to be expanded by 1 cm to get it back to original state and then some because my original palate was too narrow to begin with. As an adult it is not possible to achieve that much expansion and advancement surgically. That’s why I still need PAP but lower pressures which I now realize that I still need titration. I can finally physically close my mouth due to the MMA surgery, but not sure if the nasal prongs are better than full face. If anyone has tips please give them to me! I’m afraid to down load my card to OSCAR. It could be frightening!

I just got onto Sleep HQ and the FB page and mentioned you in a post and how important you were when I started therapy. I uploaded around 2 years of data to Sleep HQ and it took ages but didn't miss a beat. I'm not familiar with OSCAR but my first impression, and that's all it is, is that Sleep HQ is way more user friendly. Either way, having both you guys on our case is something we can be very thankful for. PS: You both have a lame sense of humour in common! One is Australian though, so I'm biased mate!

Jason…I think your comment about a marriage between SleepHQ and OSCAR was spot on. I like both a great deal for different reasons. Nick and Adam are totally open to suggestions to improve the app. They will be adding other machine compatibility as well as some O2 sensors. I was one of the first beta testers and seeing the evolution has been wonderful to see. Sadly, there are a lot of people with no tech savvy whatsoever who will have difficulty with uploading data in large part due to not ever doing something like that before. That said, they could also have difficult getting data in to OSCAR since they don’t know what an SD card or SD card reader is. See you Thursday on Zoom!

Some of the people that aren't real tech savvy will have difficulty on both platforms. Adam (SleepHQ) had a great tutorial on importing data using a phone as well as on a computer. He explains the process very well. I think I got to it in the 'help' tab within SleepHQ. So even if someone is confused by the process they can follow him doing it step by step. (what I did!) 😄

@@Freecpapadvice I had some issues uploading data to SleepHQ. After I saved the data from my SD card to hard drive on my Windows 10 PC it went MUCH MORE quickly and smoothly!!! I have been using a CPAP since March of 2021. I have a full beard. It's been VERY hard for me to get a good seal. I'm using a ResMed AirFit F-20. I have some success one night then none the following night. It's frustrating.

I’m in Australia and tried both, Oscar way quicker and easier to upload, all round better. It’s less clunky, once data on computer you don’t need internet connection or rely on server like sleep hq. Had issues with sleep hq for this reason. Summaries are better on Oscar. Reviewing and Scrolling through data also easier on Oscar. If you didn’t notice, a big Oscar fan!! Proud to admit it!

So I didn’t believe you about the comparison at first but I tried for myself. Aesthetically, sleep HQ is cool and like the app interfaces we are used to but OSCAR took the win for me for a few reasons. 1) I didn’t even have to click on my SD - it automatically detected it and uploaded the data seamlessly. 2) It seemed to be more manuverable and like there were many options. 3) It’s FREE and great!! And lastly I prefer it not being in the cloud. I like that I can open it on my computer. The down side is it looks like my dads floppy disc computers with DOS … analog af I think I’ll be sticking with Oscar but a few pastels wouldn’t hurt the interface ijs

Thanks for the review. As far as I am aware, Oscar requires a desktop or laptop. Mine are old and very slow so I don’t use them. SleepHQ runs on my iPad which I use all the time. Therefore the decision between the two products is a no brained. A product that I can run or nothing.

I think you are being quite fair, given the user experience you shared. I think the big difference is that Oscar is a local app (more options for both developers and end users), whereas SleepHQ is a web app and "web-ified" apps always seems to constrain the "feature" set either a little or a lot (the features have to be "web friendly"). I don't know what can be done to make the uploads easier or faster as the file hierarchy is set by the PAP machine. Last I looked, mine was over 17000 little files totaling over 6gb of data. Maybe if they added a function to compress/zip the file path locally, upload the zip and then decompress it on their end? Also Local = "Your Computer" and Cloud = "Someone Else's Computer"... Not a big deal to me, but some folks are particular about that. In the end, I'm like you in that SleepHQ looks promising and is definitely headed in the right direction. It just needs some polishing. It would be a huge win for the UI if they can add the element resizing/reordering like Oscar, along with the easier graph scrolling.

@@markeveren5072 Oscar requires you to pull the SD card out of the machine and upload the data. the magic uploader does it continuously in the background. for me both systems have more data than I care to look at anyway. I believe Oscar installs on your computer and has no fees. the sleep HQ magic uploader is $250 plus an annual subscription I don't mind paying the subscription because sleepHQ has a Mobile application and it collects and displays apple health and sleep data from my Iwatch and iphone which is so convenient its worth every penny!

Watch Nick's video on beginners guide to Sleep HQ. It answers your navigation questions. I'm going to try both. Thinking about whether I need to keep more than 30 days data. Also if Nick is pricing in USD, that's a killer for our exchange rate. Also concerned about encryption for all that data.

Oscar's help did not tell me about the down arrow... I was having to change the day, then change back, to unzoom... so, thanks for that. Pretty sure that SleepHQ is based in part on the Oscar (open source) software... the wifi SD card and Raspberry Pi also seem to come from the Apnea Board community.

I love OSCAR. It's what I use primarily. I have played with SleepHQ and the ONLY thing I could maybe see it being better than OSCAR for is if you want someone else to look at your data. You can just share a link instead of having to do a remote session or send screenshots from OSCAR.

I love SleepHQ and will probably subscribe for the first year but I'm coming back to OSCAR to compare which works better for me. I used to use SleepyHead until the developer stopped supporting it.

Looks nice, but why would you want to upload your personal or patients data to a cloud !? And OSCAR Is opensource. And if you would just export the data and install oscar you can look at it anyways.

For me the big difference is simply this, Oscar doesn't work with mobile devices, and I very rarely fire up my PC anymore, using my smartphone almost exclusively.

There are several items that come under the umbrella of "user friendliness." 1. Navigation. That's what your video focused on. I'm sure SleepHQ has a way to navigate the way you want, but since you are used to a certain way, any change to navigation will be new and unfamiliar to you. 2. Data analysis. You video didn't touch on this at all. The SleepHQ dashboard seemed to have graphical representation of the data but you didn't spend any time on that so it's hard to say whether SleepHQ's data analysis is displayed better /worse than OSCAR. 3. Who is the user. I think SleepHQ was referring to the END user being Joe Schmoe (not sleep professionals such as Sir Lefty. 😊 I can navigate Oscar just fine, but making sense of the data is a challenge for me as the way the data is displayed in Oscar is not END user friendly (the Joe Schmoes of the world, like me) Keep in mind SleepHQ is in Beta (not released) and OSCAR has been around for 10+ years. OSCAR and SleepHQ both seem great, but probably for a different user base.

Thanks for your comments Spud. 1. Nav. Yes, this is what I focused on (with some other things thrown in such as the AWESOME share feature of SleepHQ). The developer Adam confirmed (in the comment section here) that as of now there isn't a way to scroll like that, but that it's being added. As is, I thought I displayed that it's not easy to navigate the trend windows. 2. Data Analysis. It displays the exact same data. Both are great. Graphically I prefer thinner lines because you can see nuance of each breath, but they're displaying the same data. (again...SleepHQ is in beta still) 3. The end user for both is Joe Schmoe. I'm Joe Schmoe too as a PAP user. OSCAR definitely isn't used by "professionals", 99.9% haven't even heard of it. If they have, it's because one of their patients told them about it. Maybe it didn't come across well in the video, but SleepHQ asks on their page to share feedback. This video focuses on ease of navigation primarily, but some other things that you need to get to that point such as importing data. Things that are left out or not focused on heavily (for another video) are sharing of all data with other users. Also, the ability to use SleepHQ on a mobile phone or tablet. That's HUGE for some people since they don't have a computer. If I were to compare SleepHQ to a "professional" cloud based platform such as ResMed AirView, SleepHQ beats the hell out of it....in BETA!! All that said: My hope was that this all came across as more of a "here we are now and this is my wish list". People certainly aren't afraid to tell me they hate me, my videos, the way I speak, wish death on my pets....etc....gotta take it all in stride! 😉 Thanks for your comments though. I ahve downloaded OSCAR but it will not open citing that it can not open the folder. I have uninstalled, restarted my computer then reinstalled it. I attempted to select a folder but still a no go. What am I doing wrong?

Jason, since you are a registered sleep tech, have you compared consistency between OSCAR and the Resscan analysis software? I have dug deep into OSCAR and love the software, but the question I keep asking myself is how reliable is the data? I have no idea how to verify this being a patient. Numbers are only as good as the source so this means everything. In a way, some are literally betting their lives on it. That's scary so I hope it's right on.

OSCAR is reporting information provided by the machine. What you would want to ask is about the reliability of the machine itself. Airflow data from ResScan is the same as PAP device. It's all collected with pneumotachs/pressure transducers. It's the same with SleepHQ. It's all the same. "OSCAR Data" was accepted in a California Court for what it's worth.

SleepHQ is only free for a month after that it costs 14.99 a month that's ridiculous Now I am wondering if Oscar is free or is there a charge for it after a certain time using it it does look completely free since it's an open source program but if they charge after a certain amount of time I can do without either of them.

OSCAR has been free forever. There are absolutely no plans I’m aware of to monetize it. That’s not what they’re about. With SleepHQ I thought there was always supposed to be a free version. If not, that’s news to me for sure. Thought charge was only for an “enhanced” version. Guess I’ll have to do some digging around tomorrow.

It's free to review your most RECENT 30 days of data but this is rolling so you'll always have access to the most recent 30 days which is very fair as it costs money to store data on a server.

I tried downloading OSCAR to my MacBook Pro. I get a message saying "OSCAR could not be opened because the developer cannot be verified. MacOS cannot verify that this app is free from Malware. I have OS 12.3.1 (Mac newest operating system). Can you contact the developer regarding this isssue? Your comments are welcome. Nice job explains the difference between OSCAR & SleepHQ.

I tried sleephq, and my main grip is that it is cloud based. I HATE cloud based apps. BUTt sleephq is "prettier". That doesn't make it better though. Also, I use the O2 ring because I wanted to know what my O2 and heart rate was, and if it correlated with my apnea. There is some correlation, but nothing drastic... whew! The mouse operations with oscar are a little weird, but easy to master. Like zooming in (left click) out (right click) dragging (right button hold) select region to zoom (left click and drag). At least they are there though! I tried with sleephq, and had the same problems zooming/dragging, and no O2 import. Did I mention ..... cloud based??? That is the big turn off for me!

@@terryapple4700 In the download folder is a "read me" file. That's the instructions and walks you through those scenarios. From memory you drag the OSCAR icon (next to the "read me" file) into the applications folder. In there you open as admin and you're good. That's it more or less.

SleepHQ is still VERY new. The ability to share data is outstanding....I can't stress that enough. It's very simple to share with people. Navigating data is really rough (in my opinion). This is what is important to me personally. I'm not a software developer so I don't know a thing about this, BUT....it seems like getting zoom and scrolling working more like OSCAR would be easy to change. (but again...completely talking out of my rear with this)
