Great advice. The ONLY thing I would add is something I learned while working for the Dept. of Correction. ALWAYS back into your parking spot so you can jump in the front and just start n go. Many people panic if something undesirable happens and are too flustered to "back" out. I'm heading across country for the third time this spring 2021 and will probably try this Walmart thing out! Thanks.

I used to work overnight at Walmart. We never had a problem with people parking overnight so long as they stayed out of the way of our trucks coming in and out to unload. In extreme weather the semi drivers knew our lot was a safe place to ride out the blizzard.

Sadly it’s Walmart. Walmart is also a business, and we all should show respect & consideration to each other especially to those who work there. I stopped going there on Sunday bc people are mean lol 😂. I talked to a nice lady at the cashier, and she said a lady yelled & cussed at her bc the she couldn’t find bread lol. People behave! Inside or outside, Walmart for some reason attracts some interesting people

I used to sleep in my car or truck in Albuquerque, NM while I was working construction jobs. Usually at certain Walmart parking lots. I did that to save money. I used to hv a 32 oz Gatorade bottle to pee in to keep stealthy. Then I would camp in my vehicle at casino parking lots. I been there and done that. No one bothered me not even security guards. I'm planning on doing it again to get back to work soon as my pendemic unemployment assistance is cut off..... I got to do what I got to do to survive.

Nice video. I also like staying at walmarts. Though, I preferred when they were 24/7 since they have security watching over the place. I think most have reduced hours now because of covid. Truck stops are good in a pinch. If you are out on the highway in the middle of nowhere you might not find a walmart super center but you will usually find a truck stop. I've also found that you can stay at about any large store if you just ask. I've stayed at Home Depot, Sams, walgreens, Lowes, and various other stores. The only place I've camped in residential type areas is on military bases. I'm retired military and can get on most installation. I pick a parking lot where lots of cars are going to be all night and just sleep there. I get my best sleep on military bases because it is pretty safe and quiet at night. Then in the morning I can go to the gym for free and take a shower.

@@noturningback2023 I stealth camp when I'm on the bases. I'm not sure how it would go over if you just parked an RV or something. I suspect they would run you off. That said, some bases have RV parking for a fee. Stealth parking though I've never even had close calls. I just park at billeting, dorms, tlf, etc, where they have plenty of open slots. Just keep the troops in mind and make sure you aren't taking any valuable/needed spots.

The best places to car camp are in the nice neighborhoods but you don’t tell anybody that you’re doing it, Just park on the street wherever you see cars, industrial areas where night factories are operating, but you gotta be discreet, usually when I’m car camping when I go to my spot I’m there for the night, I’m not going anywhere after that, I put a window shade in my front window, the kind they use to block out the sun or get some window coverings for the door windows like this guy has in this video, get a tempur pedic symphony pillow because when you’re car camping you need to stay as comfortable as possible, a good pillow will help with that. Imo car camping in out of the way places spaces is asking for trouble, car camp where there is ppl around, but you stay invisible in your car, p*ss in a plastic bottle.
@101perspective
@101perspective 2 жыл бұрын
@@TB12710 Agree. I always keep that in mind for if I can't find somewhere else to park. I've never had to resort to it though. Btw, the stealth parking lots I was talking about are on military bases. It's pretty common for people there to be parked out away from other vehicles at the locations I mentioned. Some because they want to protect their vehicle and some simply because when they parked there were a lot more cars but then the night or day shift left for work leaving theirs out there with just a few others.

Great tips! I agree on reflectix -- it advertises someone's in there. Black window coverings are better. And in a Prius you don't need the climate control from your window coverings, because your car will control you climate for pennies a night. I also like that you parked in one spot to shop and eat, and then moved to your overnight spot. I do that, too! Looking forward to the next video...

@@nightfangs2910 I keep forgetting that most of these VANlifers can't read, are poor or innately dumb. Professional drivers or those who "drive 18 wheelers" are WORKING Legitimately. Living in a car, parking on private property i.e. a business office park with the intent of breaking the law is illegal. Truckers are not subject to vagrancy laws because their vehicles have not been converted to a domicile. FIRST, in most states, sleeping in your car is ILLEGAL. You are on Google, do a quick search. Laws require that truckers limit the number of hours they drive and all trucking companies have special permission to park in certain areas, including city streets, businesses they service and park by permission.. That's why you see them parked on the side of the road on the interstate. Why do you think they are required to have. DOT number and all of those "other" little numbers on the side of their rigs?

Check out Dr. John McDougal's free diet plan. Jeff Novick also has quick food. Their food reverses arterial heart disease because whole foods plant based with no added fat or oils. I would zip open frozen veggies, add a can of drained beans, and some cooked rice or cooked potato plus spices. There are other things too. Most convenience stores will let you use their microwave to reheat foods and get free ice water if you have a cup. I never had anyone say no and I didn't buy anything there. I did this when I was on a big diet and traveled. Sometimes motels will let you have ice for free too, not big amounts but it was enough for my cooler.

Two years in a class b RV at the same Walmart. They know I'm here and haven't said one word...2 years! They moved the car people out, buy maybe because I'm in an RV I was the only one allowed to stay. The Walmart has the auto shop, vet clinic, medical clinic with vision and dental. I stay in the van and walk my dog off property. 2 years and not one security issue. I'm EXTREMELY grateful that they let me stay. And yes, PD know I'm here.

I like to back in to obstruct the view of my license plate. People won't know if you're local or out of town. I find truck stops very safe. Truckers tend to watch out for each other and they're well lit, have cameras, and are open all night. Not crazy about rest stop for already pointed out reasons. Before staying at a Kracker Barell they like you to tell the manager that you'll be there. Great breakfast food too. Some casinos alow over night parking. Well lit and watched. This was a very good video with helpful hints.

Trees, isolation and barriers/rails can also hide desperate and wandering homeless/vagrants. An open air spot, far away but close to people and traffic can ward off undesirables. If it’s private and secluded, be sure you can protect yourself too! I lived 2 years in the same Walmart/Home Depot parking lot space - far away but near a road seldom traveled. It was also between two strip malls - a parking lot used for tractor trailers. Story was that it was once a business so it was pretty separated from WM and the other mall but centrally situated so “certain people” wouldn’t feel so comfortable there. A few gathered around in motor homes as well as cars and even a full sized trailer! Tractor trailers freely stopped by as there was a series of ports along the river truckers would pick up and drop off from. We even had the police answering a domestic disturbance call at one of the vehicles! It wasn’t a huge encampment but it lasted for at least 3 years I knew about…

The Lonoke, Arkansas Walmart sadly had to put up bars over entrances to keep 18-wheelers out. Inexperienced (I'm assuming) drivers kept knocking over light poles, running over shopping carts and hitting cars. It's a small parking lot. The asphalt was breaking up due to weight of vehicles. When I worked there we loved having truck drivers shopping with us but sadly the bad drivers messed it up for all the long haul drivers. As far as I know RV's still park there. They did hire security to drive around parking lot at night. Just check out where you are like he says.

Those woods and that brush is full of paths and littl hidy holes where the JUNKIES and the DESPERATE DRUNKS hang out to do their SHIT or drink the listerine they just SHOPLIFTED and watch for some unsuspecting soul to steal from. Only park at the places where there is another parking lot adjacent.park under the light and if you can see surveillance cameras around you can sleep better. BE VIGILANT.

Love what you do in your Prius. Awesome CarCamp setup. But… disagree with your choice of parking spots. The whole idea of the Walmart parking is to remain visible to reduce odds of being harassed or worse. The idiots or deranged or worse prefer isolated areas where they have better odds of NOT being seen when they approach their victims. I’m only commenting to provide comment for viewers who might be about to start car camping and May be a bit naive. Thankfully you have not experienced the worst cases. Be safe. Thanks for posting.

I've had 2 run-ins with police, both times they let me stay. Kind of long story for both times, but in general pretty much all police know its legal to sleep at walmart so they wont bother you. Ron- no walmarts are open 24 hours anymore because of the pandemic, but they still have a 3rd shift of workers to clean, stock, and sanitize the store so their cars are always in the parking lots and your car just blends right in with all the other cars

@@MountainSpringsAdventures I was referring to local ordinances that makes it illegal to camp anywhere except at a campground. Most times you probably won't have any trouble. I used to sleep outside of down town Atlanta GA in a Publix parking lot I never had any trouble but I would not do it now it's not safe there anymore. Some church lots are ok but in Helen GA it's not allowed anymore but they have a city park where you can park and it's not too crowded most of the time. Well just stay safe and happy camping.

When finished take top out and pour contents into screw top bottle. It works so well. For emergency #2, 5 gallon bucket lined triple with grocery bags. Put a toilet seat on it. Then seal wastebag in ziplock bag. Much safer options then running to a public bathroom in the middle of the night.
