I built myself a heating system using just 3 items: Ammo Can, Copper Coil, and Garden Hose. I used this off-grid heater to stay warm underneath the snow while I slept.

I’ve watched a lot of KZbin over the years, from influencers to sports to gaming. I can honestly say that I think this is my favorite channel I’ve ever come across. I’m no outdoorsman or craftsman, but there’s something so purely entertaining and enjoyable about watching someone so skillful craft something amazing. I’ve been watching your journey on the cabin from very early on, and genuinely look forward to every new episode. I hope you and your family are well, and thank you!

Thanks for checking in, my friend! 🙂 I took some time off to be with my family, but now I'm back to work at the cabin. There's a dying maple tree that's been leaning over the cabin slightly, so it looks like my next job will be to take it down...in the next episode. Until then!

Love your creative idea for a snow camping heating system! I used to camp in the snow at high altitude, in a tent. All I used was a thin Mylar emergency blanket under my old down sleeping bag and a cheap tarp under the tent. The snow under the tent created the cushion. Now that I am older I love your heating idea. It is really genius. I always love watching your videos! All the best to you and your family! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍👍👍😀💕💕💕🌸🌸🌸❄️❄️❄️

Your method of determining the thickness of the walls is great. What I've done is break branches into about 1' lengths and insert them all around the outside of the hut. Then I simply dig until I hit a branch. Great video.

What a wonderful treat to see you again after so long. Since you are usually so open about this and since you did not mention anything about the rest of the family, I'm going to take it that your loved ones are doing well. That is a relief given your long absence from SM. It must be a special type of snow that you look for when building your shelter cause every time as a kid that my brothers and I tried to make something like this, we always ended up at the bottom of a lot of collapsed snow (and of course loved it totally...lol) Hopefully it won't be so long before we get to share your next adventure. Take care and thanks.

2:50 That scene instantly brought an old man to tears. Happy tears, I'm glad to say. It triggered flashbacks to childhood days of digging tunnels and snow forts/igloos in the snow drifts, all fortified with lots of snowballs for battle of course. lol Probably the happiest time ever, great memories. There's a specific detail , though, that might be very helpful for you. The inside needs rubbed. You need to create an ice barrier on the walls and ceiling by rubbing moisture into the snow. Think of it like painting the walls of your house and sealing the surfaces, making them easier to clean. To prove a point, try burning a snowball with a Bic lighter and watch what happens. Yes, it does start melting, but it also starts protecting the softer snow behind it. Back then no heat was used. Several old socks were put over one hand(make-shift glove) and dipped in water, then rubbed on the walls to create the ice layer. Once the layer is made, the drips disappear by running down the walls instead. The smoother the better. With you having heat inside, the moisture comes natural and starts dripping. Just rub it smooth. 👍

Classic Canadian ---> QUINZHEE ...... Okay, for someone as self who was born in Montreal in the early 1950's, I've made a many of these Quinzhee's in my youth, and the one thing that's important in making one of these also applies to Igloos! For a proper and comfortable Quinzhee, it's important to construct an _'elevated'_ bed from the floor level, and the reason being is because the cold _'sinks'_ to it's lowest point and having it elevated, it will then help to enjoy the upper and _'warmer'_ (32F....lol) part of the Quinzhee. Of course closing off the door with at least one rear vent and *MAKING SURE* to leave a well place upright shovel outside for anyone to see in case of a collapse and knockout! Lastly, by raising the temperature above 32F, it'll help to create moisture on the interior walls, and then let it freeze completely! This will then have secure hard frozen walls! Too much fun....lol

This was great! I haven't had a good snow hut in years. I used to make them up in the mountains in Montana all the time, they're actually pretty comfortable and you don't have to worry about them caving in when it snows hard during a blizzard. Better than a tent. I always did igloo style huts, where I could build a fire inside but I love this idea! I never even thought of something like this.

Using the tarp for pulling out the snow from the inside was a great idea. Was there any issue with snow melting under your heated bed? If so, a piece of rigid foam insulation on the bottom side should help with that and have the heat rise.

I love the water/bed system! My main thoughts if I ever build something like this were: build a larger double/queen pad for my fiancé & I, put a Mylar heat reflector just below the hose inside the bed, use a smaller 1-2 gallon reservoir, possibly double-walled to reduce heat loss, and place a “solar oven” type heat reflector behind it to help radiate more heat forward.
