Sleep Ranch

Күн бұрын

-Welcome to the Sleep Ranch! We are located in the Northern Black Hills on the South Dakota/ Wyoming border where our ancestors settled and started ranching in 1883.
I (Carson) work alongside my parents, Jeff and Jodi, our ranch hand, Jaques, my wife, Damaris who also works as a nurse in town, and our son Silas! We have friends and family who come along very frequently as well!
We run a cow/calf operation where we summer our cattle on the Black Hills National Forest and winter them in the foothills of the Black Hills. We also have a backgrounding feedlot, and grow alfalfa and grass hay.
To God be the Glory

It is good the cows do not trust the eagles around their babies. Calves all look good, even little tongue. Hope you all stay safe and healthy.

A great name. Thank goodness you are on the down side of calving. The new calves all look in great health. It’s always neat how both the cows and calves want to smell or lick the camera. My granddad years ago laid his “store bought teeth” as he called them. On the back of a wagon and an old cow took her tongue and lapped them in her mouth. Teeth gone and was he ever mad at her. It still makes me laugh 70 years later. 😊😂😊 God Bless Your Family 🙏

Happy to hear the good news that calving is almost complete and has gone so well! We have a blizzard here today and a few days more of it and of course, now we really ARE into the first calves coming. So, the craziness begins I suppose, with long hours and calves in warmers or whatever it takes! Hoping you guys can get more of the "yotes" caught before they take out any more calves.

Congrats Mike on picking the name. Silas is so adorable! Glad you are getting near the end of calving season. We have been getting hammered with an atmospheric river. I heard the mountains hit 654" inches now for the season. Now it's flooding in the valley with snowmelt. Had funnel cloud Sunday and earthquakes Tuesday. Craziness. We are done with our winter too.

Wow!!!!! Cows for miles and miles…Such a beauty sight!!!! Glad the trapper is working on getting rid of some coyotes… Everybody likes to see eagles but I myself know the damage they can do to farm animals… But if you talk to the Game and Fish…. They don’t attack livestock…They are fishers… but I beg to differ…,We would see eagles in our fields in February eating dead stuff out in the fields….They just don’t want to pay for damage or death loss….. Have a great day…❤

Cows are so curious.. When I was a kid , we were out feeding one spring & I noticed our entire herd was way out in the pasture all huddled together... My dad told me to go see what had their attention.. I was thinking it was baby rabbits or a snake maybe , it being spring.. When I got up to them I noticed a white plastic bag snagged in the brush about 5 ft in the air... That was it... Anything "new" in their pasture made them so curious they just had to investigate... I noticed 2 calves sniffing at the ground where my dad had worked on our tractor. When I got to them , I found my dads pocket knife sticking up out of the ground... I guess the smell or the yellow handle was worth an investigation...lol. P.S. , my dad was thrilled to have his pocket knife back..

Carson, do you and other ranchers prefer coyote hunters or trappers to get rid of coyotes, and why? Do you get nervous about the traps on the property? I have a trappers license, but haven't used my trapping license yet. Only hunting. The ranchers I know love having hunters come and shoot coyotes, but I never hear anything about trappers. Thanks for the videos!
