He’s great…he played our bar in Wichita, back in the early 80’s!

I played a recording session with Sleepy & Capt. Jackie Lee Williams back in maybe 1982?? I had already heard Sleepy live a few times. I don't know what ever happened with those songs. There was a single release that was on some jukeboxes in MA & NH back then.

This is the title tune of one of the albums Sleepy made for Boston's Rounder label. I was there the day he wheeled from Massachusetts to New York for the show. He was driving a vintage 1950s Caddy. Sleepy LaBeef Larger Than Life, Twice as Loud and A Non Stop, Great Entertainer.

He's a staple at the Hey Hey in Columbus, OH. Met him several times there and he signed all 13 albums that I had of his. Then saw him again at the Green Bay Rockabilly Fests twice.

What a super guy. I walked into a show with my wife and he was standing outside (Twist & Shout, Bethesda, MD). I asked him to play Waltz Across Texas for me and my bride and he opened up with it on his next set.

He played Tennessee Waltz for a lady friend of mine at the Hillbilly Ranch, Boston, 1978. Sleepy was the greatest!

I never thought Conan was funny but dammit, he gave airtime to music acts that would never get on TV otherwise. I saw Sleepy in NYC about ten years ago. Great show. Sat and chatted with him before the gig. What a nice man.

Did a double album set with Sleepy at Blue Jay Studio in Carlisle Mass for Rounder Records circa 1980. Can't remember the name of the album or the exact years, but I do remember some of the players. Russel Keyes on Bass Bobby Keyes on rhythm guitar, drummer was good, can't remember his name, me on keys. Great session.

Actually met him today in a local music store/pawnshop I go to. I was looking over guitars and he asked if I was a picker. We talked guitars and then he mentioned playing with Elvis and Carl Perkins. I THOUGHT I knew who it was, but wasn't sure. Then I got his card! Totally cool guy and really enjoyed talking with him.

Cazwell, yes, this was at the Hey Hey Bar & Grill! He's been coming here for 20+ years. This show was special, as his family (about 9 strong) drove up from Arkansas to surprise him. His wife Linda read some of the birthday congratulatory letters & emails. Adding to the fun, he had quite a few of us to sit in throughout the night.

I wouldn't know how to categorize a voice but I do remember Peter Guralnick writing that Sleepy Label was the only basso profundo in the history of Rock 'n Roll. I do know that when you walked into a bar where Sleepy was playing that voice would hit you like a tsunami, and it was BIG!
