Obviously that horrible selfishness was bad and you can see that the protagonist of that ending is Tom. The camera always focuses on him, the plot revolves around him, he is the one that doesn't trust Tord, he is the one not fooled, he is the one in the right. It sucks. And especially cuz Tord was only friends with Edd. He wasn't an English dude that hanged out with the three. He was a Norwegian dude. As such there wasn't a connetion to the core group.
