Just retuned from travelling with a King Charles Cavalier in a sleepypod. Calgary-Los Angeles-Miami. 9 hrs over two days then return. She absolutely loved her carrier. Especially thru the terminal with the door open so she could see the people and interact while she rode high on my roller bag. The ability to conform under the seat kept the FA happy as it didn't intrude into the foot space. I think this is a good product and worth the money.

My dog can't fully stand in the sleepypod, which is a requirement for many airlines. It doesn't look like the dog in the video can either. Anyone had issues with airline agents?
@dfitz0321
@dfitz0321 5 жыл бұрын
I’ve always thought the airline requirement that the dog be able to stand in the carrier is interesting, because the carrier has to be short enough to fit under the plane seat. If they were to enforce this, it would mean the only dogs that could travel would be very short dogs. But, what I’ve noticed is that with both my SleepyPod Air, and my Sherpa, the crates are soft/flexible which allows movement of the pet. So far, I’ve only traveled with puppies and a cat, both of which were easily able to fit in the SleepyPod Air. But, I will soon be traveling with a 13 1/2 lb dog who measures 11 1/2 inches at the withers. He fits comfortably, although can’t stand in the same position he can when outside of the crate.

I don't think they have to fully stand and it's not like the agent is going to check if your dog can fully stand in the carrier. I think the key is that they can stand tall enough to turn around inside the carrier if they want/need to.

Hello all, I have seen how many people in different informational videos show and place taller small dogs - taller dog in a smaller carrier size - not being able to stand up - as per airline requirements - like in 30 videos. Yes, I too have been shopping around for a soft sided dog carrier and have seen and read too many inconsistencies as to how to measure your pet for the right crate and then these videos of pet literally only being able to stand up until the owner opens the top lid of the bag, otherwise the poor dog has to lay down until next time the lid is opened. Today I saw how the UK says to ignore pointy ears, in the past I have seen websites say to measure your dog from floor to head and then measure from floor to knee bone and then only use half of the leg measurement to determine the full height size??!!! I think that the last part - and base on what I’ve seen can only apply to soft sided carriers - because otherwise you would have to add 4 more inches to the original height to comply with the airline - stand up in kennel - requirements. So confused. I am stressing out big time. Has anybody had an airline tell you that your dog should have head room to stand up or have you actually been approved by the airline to buy a smaller size soft sided carrier than the pets size as it will be laying down the entire flight? Keep in mind that ai am talking about soft sided carriers. The hard kennels are a different thing and not an issue or part of this topic.

Freedom Speech It’s somewhat tricky because the carrier has to fit under the plane seat ... not many dogs are short enough to fit standing under a plane seat. Yet, any pet I’ve flown with lays down and sleeps throughout the flight anyway. My dog who is 13-14lbs, 11 1/2 inches at the whithers fits in the SleepyPod Air. My other dog who is closer to 16 inches and a little taller at 12 1/4 inches fits, but is pretty scrunched in ... although he likes to scrunch himself in to sleep ... guess it feels like a comfy den to him lol

The past 10 years I've been using my Sherpa pet carrier in a size XL and it works fine but on some EU flights, it's a fairly tight squeeze under the seats, but at least the Sherpa has good ventilation, otherwise I wouldn't permit my dog to travel in it.

@Sleepypod
@Sleepypod 7 жыл бұрын
Hello Lorienny, Toy dogs can fit in any of the Sleepypod carriers, but there are a couple of considerations: 1) If you choose to use the carrier as a car seat then you want the carrier to be fit proportionally (i.e. not too big) b/c you want to minimize the amount of space between the dog and crate in an accident. 2) Because dogs come in all shapes and sizes, you must first measure the height and length of your pet then compare the measurements to those of the carrier. Here is a link to a Sleepypod video with information on how to choose a pet carrier - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZrVeX18o9d3jqc You might start by measuring your pet then comparing against the size of the carriers on the product pages of the Sleepypod web site - sleepypod.com The smallest Sleepypod carrier is the Sleepypod Mini, followed by the Sleepypod Atom, then the Sleepypod, and then the Sleepypod Air. It's a shame that your carriers have absolutely no visibility along the sides for the dog to see forward, or see the human driving them around. Air circulation must be really restricted in there ?

Sleepypod Air was created with the pet's safety and comfort in mind. Padding on 2 sides help to cushion and protect the pet in the event of a car collision or hard stop. See the crash test at kzbin.info/www/bejne/goW8f4uce7GIicU Three entire sides of the carrier offer venting. With venting on three sides, Sleepypod carriers enable ample air flow.

In my Opinion this carrier seems a bit too small/ tight and theres no enough room for the animal to move around, looks a bit claustrophobic to me, and it can be easily mistaken for a regular bag which is not that good because someone may accidentally kick it with a dog or cat inside ..it would be a lot better if wecould actually see whats inside the carrier for the pets safety...

Thanks for stopping by and checking out the Sleepypod Air instructional video. We're glad you took a moment to share your feedback. The dog in this video is the same weight and similar dimensions as the dog in this Sleepypod video, "Air Travel With a Dog." Here you'll see the dog is able to move with ease and turn around in the carrier. - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaebfpqinptsbac We can understand how you might want to see more of the interior of the carrier so we've asked our web team to add photos to the Sleepypod website. Thanks for that feedback! With regards to har carrier vs soft carrier, we appreciate hearing your preference. We've created this design to accommodate in-cabin and car travel. The car seat function has been crash-tested at US, Canadian, and EU child safety seat standards, then independently tested by the Center for Pet Safety. We landed on this design after much testing to include various carrier styles. You can see some of this testing here on Sleepypod's KZbin channel in the "Crash Tests" and "Research Lab" playlists. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. You can reach us via web chat on the Sleepypod home page at Sleepypod.com or via email at contact@sleepypod.com

Hi Elora - Puffy is one of Sleepypod's office pets. He regularly naps in the Sleepypod Air when in the office and uses it for in-cabin air travel. Puffy is right at the max recommendation for using Sleepypod Air. The maximum recommended pet weight for a Sleepypod Air is 18 lbs. As with any carrier by any brand, weight is a general guideline so a pet owner should measure the length and height of the pet and compare against the carrier dimensions. There should not be too much extra room for the pet to slide in the carrier while the carrier is in motion.

Elora D the entire strip that goes from bottom front, across the top, and down the back is mesh - so air easily flows. I’m not sure about circulation if you use the privacy panel - I don’t use the privacy panel.

That dog in the video seemed crammed into the carrier. I’m considering this carrier because of the quality and reputation of the company, (after a bad experience with another, expensive-but low quality carrier-my Houdini was somehow able to unzip one of the zippers far enough to get her precious self stuck halfway out 🙄). My concern is space. Although the flight itself is less than 3 hours, with the layover, it’s a total of 4+ for @Kitty_Leela to be scrunched up in a small carrier. My baby is about 17lbs, but looks a lot bigger with a thick undercoat and long orange hair. Anyone else with a kitty her size and experience traveling in this? We’re also going to be taking a VERY long road trip when we move in January. I’m planning on getting a large wire crate that will fill most of my daughter’s back seat-so we can put a small litter box in it. It’s going to be a 36-40 hour drive, if anyone has any other suggestions, I’m open to them! I actually thought about flying her in cargo down there and having my other daughter pick her up-to avoid putting her through the stress of 36+ hours in a car, finding a hotel for our 1 break, etc. then, I read several horror stories about people who did this & lost their fur-babies. Either way, I know it won’t be easy...

Thanks for your interest in the Sleepypod Air carrier. As with any carrier by any brand, you should measure your pet and compare against the dimensions of the carrier. Weight is a general guideline for narrowing carrier choice. You should also take the pet's flexibility into consideration as the pet should be able to turn around in the carrier. In general, cats tend to be more flexible than dogs. Lastly, if your pet was trying to get out of the previous carrier it is likely that she was experiencing anxiety or fear. Take some time to acclimate your pet prior to travel -- cats are notoriously fearful travel. Sleepypod Air, with it's plush bedding, can be used as a cozy napping spot at home. A familliar space helps make travel less stressful. There are lots of good videos out there with tips. We recommend the Kitten Lady's "How to Fly With Your Cat" video at kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqG4fWivpdillZo Sleepypod has videos on this same KZbin channel with tips from pet experts. Hope this helps.

The part where you hook the carrier into the car seat is not the correct direction (you have it on its side so the dog would be thrown upside down!). The carrier is supposed to stay upright, with the seatbelts slipped through the latch covers on each side. The correct way is demonstrated on another manufacturer’s video featuring a man, with the same narration text as this video.
