This surgery saved my life. I’ve lost all my weight in 9 months and got some loose skin. I always suggest to people this surgery is not a MIRACLE from heaven cause you need to put yourself through it to get better results. Get ready for it mentally and physically. Eat small portion with small utensils, get your vitamins and proteins and last stay active. You can eat your favorite food with moderation. Best of luck to anyone looking forward having weight loss surgery !

Not only do different surgeons use different bougie sizes, which only controls the diameter of the sleeve, but one aspect that most bariatric patients know nothing about is how far away from the pyloric valve a surgeon starts resecting the sleeve. In the beginning about 16 years ago when sleeves first started being done as a standalone, one-time surgery, most surgeons started resecting sleeves about 6-7 cm away from the pyloric valve/pylorus. This created a baggie area at the bottom of the sleeve near the antrum, which created a more voluminous sleeve, less restriction, a shorter Honeymoon and more regain. Over time, the surgeons started resecting the sleeve closer and closer to the pyloric valve/pylorus. Now most surgeons start resecting sleeves at 2-3 cm away from the pyloric valve/pylorus. This may create more nausea and more reflux and other difficulties with getting water in in the beginning, but overall they have better success with weight loss and maintaining that weight loss. However about 25% to 30% of surgeons are still stuck in a RUT and are too afraid to cut that close to the pyloric valve, so they still do it the old-fashioned way from 16 years ago and start cutting at a full 6-7 cm away from the pyloric valve. Most patients have no idea about this and don’t EVEN KNOW TO ASK their surgeons how far away from the pylorus they start resecting the sleeve. Also, surgeons almost never OFFER this information in advance of doing a sleeve. No matter how many pre-op classes or seminars or literature is offered to a patient, they just never disclose this information in the beginning or even AFTER surgery - unless the patient specifically ASKS. Even then, the surgeons will CLAIM that it makes no difference in weight loss. After the surgery it’s too late to fix that. Sometimes you can go to a different surgeon and get re-sleeved. The ORIGINAL surgeon will refuse to - bc that would be ADMITTING they made the sleeve BIG... However, if the original surgeon can do a Revision to RNY for some OTHER reason (like reflux), he would probably do that for the PROFIT, plus he doesn’t have to ADMIT the patient’s slow weight loss is because he made a big sleeve in the first place... The problem with these old-school surgeons is that they are not TRANSPARENT about this and so the patients really have no real choice as to what size sleeve they get, because they are not being informed at the outset. If they were H O N E S T, they would tell them in the beginning and then the patient would have an actual REAL choice to go down the road to a different surgeon. The other tragedy after such a large sleeve has been done on a patient is they will notice that they are not losing as fast as other people, don’t have as much restriction, are hungrier, and aren’t losing as fast as others who had a sleeve by a different surgeon, and their honeymoon is over sooner [LIKE 4-6 MONTHS] and sometimes they start experiencing RE-GAIN in several months before they’ve even reached their GOAL. The OTHER tragedy on top of that is that such a surgeon and his Team including his nutritionist and dietitian will TRY TO BLAME THE CLUELESS PATIENT for this (the surgeon AND HIS TEAM knowing full well that he makes big sleeves)! The way to find out what size sleeve you were given in terms of distance from the pyloric valve is to order your Operative Report from the Hospital records department (YOU DO NOT NEED YOUR SURGEON’S PERMISSION). Find the sentence that reads something like this: “The sleeve began being resected at _________ centimeters distal from the pylorus or pyloric valve” Whatever that number is: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7, THAT will tell you how big your sleeve is in terms of volume. Again this has nothing to do with bougie size....which can ALSO have some impact, BUT NOT AS MUCH AS THE DISTANCE FROM THE PYLORIC VALVE THAT THE SLEEVE BEGAN BEING RESECTED.

After surgery with reduced weight all the issues are resolved excepting my gastric acidity which has remained the same/mildly worse than before.If you have the resources to get a Gastric sleeve done, the courage to do it & your BMI > 32 & you struggle with issues concerning overweight & diet-exercise have failed to solve your problem>>>I would advice you to go for the Gastric sleeve.🙂

They shrink it down to the size of a lemon now, due to the tube version screwing with digestion! UNMC surgeon says the lemon size version of a gastric bypass is much better than a sleeve due to the very small amount of work needed to be done. It’s pretty much like cut stomach in half then stitch the top back to the bottom of the stomach.

@callmehuckleberry
@callmehuckleberry 4 жыл бұрын
Eating once a day actually may be hindering you in your efforts to lose weight. If your body is only being fed once, your metabolism will slow drastically in efforts to conserve energy until you eat again. So basically your body is storing every calorie you eat. That’s why dietitians will tell you to eat multiple, small, healthy meals throughout the day, with snacks like nuts or fruit in between. This causes your metabolism to increase the rate and duration of time in which it’s burning off calories, carbs & fat. As far as if the surgery would help, I have no clue. 🤪😂

Just eat a proper diet bro. Get some self control and start cutting back on sugar and processed crap. This surgery is just going to fuck up your digestive system. No need to mutilate your body. Believe in yourself and fucking try. Your diet doesn't have to be perfect right away. If you can quit the bad food cold turkey, good for you. If you can't do cold turkey, then ween yourself. Eat a higher ratio of lean meat in your meals as opposed to carbs and sugar, it is the most nutritious food and will keep you satiated unlike carbs and sugars. And start exercising. You don't have to go full on blood sweat and tears. You can just start walking regularly. Then after you've been regularly walking for a few months maybe then maybe try some more intense exercise and it will be easier cause you took baby steps and built up endurance by walking. Or if all you can do is walk but you do it regularly, that's great! And honestly you would be doing better than A LOT of people.
