I got it! I can push over two cards now and here's what I learned: It's all about WHERE you touch the two cards with your thumb. I mean where on your thumb, not where on the cards. Experiment with places - as he says - between your thumbprint and your nail until two cards start sliding over as one. For me, it is where the nail goes into the skin on the left side, i.e. if you were clipping your thumbnail, it would be the farthest left side of where you clip. Important point: Don't roll your thumb over (so that the thumbprint starts to touch the cards) otherwise the cards will split. You have to keep that one exact spot (that you found) in contact with the cards. There, my contribution to humanity. Well, that tiny, weird slice of humanity that is learning card magic, I guess. Now all I have to perfect is how to keep the other cards from sliding over, which according to Alex, is a matter for the fingers of the left hand. If anybody has any hints on how to master this, please let me/us know. Thanks and good luck, people!

Can u help me...i do have a problem ....when i push over ..three card comes squared up..and i use my other fingers to pull the 3rd one....but when my Spectator looks at the deck when i do the push over.... they see one card(3 card squared) and suddenly one card is push back slowly and one card(2 card stick together) is pushed out ...and when i do the double lift ...they say that ..its two card...and it only happens when i do the ambitious card routine ..cuz ..thats when we do the double lift ...many times...how can i rectifie this...and moreover..i can ony push off cards when i am looking at the deck ...cuz if i look at them and do the push over ...more than 3 will be pushed out....so when i look at the deck..they start to stare at the deck and ...call me..out... Note: my card doesn't split..both card stays together exactly like one ...yet they catch me...how can i rectifie this. .please reply me

@@thomasd1479In the beginning it's good to start with a new deck. First thing. Second thing: use skin moisturizer before handling the cards. Third thing. Film yourself practicing without looking at the deck until you get the "feeling" of the double lift. This isn't unlike learning to play piano while reading sheet music instead of looking at the piano. Lastly: PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. When you get frustrated just remember: Alex went through these steps too. If he can do it so can we.

This is an amazing tutorial. Every since I started magic I've been doing the Daryl double since it was the cleanest DL for me given that I could have never figured out how to do a pushover DL. After this video, it was the first time I was actually able to get a somewhat presentable push-over. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

A very important point that you didn’t mention but do sooo well is you turn the double exactly as you do the single. Not only that but you also do it very natural as if anyone would grab a deck and turn over a single card. Those little things you do make you just that much better than everyone else in my opinion. thanks so much for an awesome tutorial!!!! i've been searching for a while now for a good method that is both convincing and simple. a tip i came up with: when turning over the two cards, if you grab them with thumb and middle finger on the short sides, flip it over while putting pressure on the long edge of the cards into the deck. this helps to square the two cards together much easier. hope that helps!

Great video! Honestly, I watched this tutorial some time ago, and thought this move to be far too difficult to perform. But as always, when I decided to give a second chance to this, and this time by paying much more focus on details in this video, I have to admit, that this move is much more easier to learn and do then I thought before. Revisiting this video after learning the move 6 months ago. I thought I had it down, but then practiced in front of a mirror and flashed much more than I thought (space between the cards when squaring them up with my index finger after the push off). Came back to revise the small details. Would like the video again if it were possible 👍

the double's one of the most common moves, but arguably the most difficult to do well. Simon Lovell picked it as his most difficult sleight saying something like, "When was the last time you really watched someone do it and fool you with it?"

The idea of not getting a pinky break to do the double lift suits me, since i still can't manage one really naturally :) I tried what you said and I must say, i'm gettting better results than when I tried to do it without having considered the pivot at the base of the thumb

Hi Alex. I can do the pinky count double pushover like the Russian Genius performs it in no time and very clean too... but I have such a hard time to learn the pushover you are teaching. This is a good tutorial, thanks! I've subscribed and am looking forward to what's up to come. The problem I see with the "little bend" "that's gonna keep everything together"... well, I've seen many people do it - but they only do it before a double lift. Every other time they don't do it... which makes the viewer suspicious. If there is extra moves then this is almost shouting "here, something just happened". At least that's my impression on this bend as an attentive non-magician viewer (I'm just starting out but even before I always felt like that move was very odd).

Yep, pretty much just practice. You will get a feel for one two three or more cards. As a matter of fact there are times when you may want more that two. Practice and get the feel of the cards. Don't forget, Alex has years of practice behind his double lift. It IS very nice isn't it.

great! yes I love those who are so perfect in spreading the cards and double lifts and "simple moves"... I do the strike double whenever I want to avoid pinkie breaks (which is all the time lately) but the push off seems the most natural...

i think pressure is the big key when first starting. doing it too light will only push off 1 card. too much pressure will push off more than 2. you need to find that center point and the correct amount of pressure and after a while it becomes second nature.

one issue i have with this is the finger movement of the three holding the deck. they either get in the way or the cards slide right off!

While practicing this was so convincing that a few times I had to check to make sure I had a double and not an accidental single. The triple with one card push back is particularly convincing although I can't reliably hit it.

Hi there, Thank you for this tutorial. Very educational. I do have one question though and everyone is willing to answer it of course. How long does it takes to master that movement ? I mean, I understand we all are different and all, have differents skill and smartness and so on but I'm very curious to know how long did it take for people who wrotte comment were straigth begginers to learn that move ? As someone who is familiar with the Strike double and is trying to learn the Push off, here are some of my thoughts on Strike vs Push Off: I think the biggest advantage of the Push Off over the Strike is that perfectly pushing off two cards acts as a great convincer. But also when doing a good Strike, it really looks as if you are only flipping over the top card. You just need to minimize the time where you feel for the top two cards, so it doesn't look like you are counting the cards. Also, when lifting the cards after you felt two, there might be a small gap between the top and second card visible from the front for a split second. That should also be avoided to get a good and convincing looking Strike. I believe most laymen won't even care whether you are doing Push off or Strike; both are equally fooling if performed well. A perfect push off might fool magicians though. In general, a DL should look clean, i.e. it has to look to the spectator as if you are really ONLY touching and turning over the top card of the deck. So NONE of the cards below the double (the top card in the spectator's eyes) should move while doing the double. The Strike double (and also any double with get-ready for that matter) has this inherently built in, while for the Push off, there is a risk of not getting the perfect two card Push Off and accidentally pushing off more that two cards, which is precisely the reason why so many of us struggle learning it. Finally, the Strike works well with decks of any quality, while the Push Off may require a relatively fresh deck.
