@calotcha1082 жыл бұрын
@@NCVV2000 Well, Sao Vicente is the one, i'd say. But it also depends on what exactly you want to see. I wouldn't worry about busy places.....anywhere you go, it's never crowded with tourists. How to get there? TAP airlines is the one everyone uses. From the US, you go to Lisbon, Portugual, and from Lisbon to either one of the main islands. However, make sure, you fly to the island where you intend to stay or it will cost you to fly from island to island. If you take the ferries (they're very cheap), you have to know the time schedules.

I would suggest Santiago, because its history pratically is the Cape Verde history, being the bigger one, the first to be discover, the economic, demographic and political center, with most historical sites to visit (Cidade Velha - World Heritage Site, the only one in Cape Verde/Tarrafal - "Concentration Camps" to people who oppose the portuguese colonialism/ Plateau - Historical center in the Capital (Praia)) and others beautiful places and nice people, inspite of many thing to be done and solve yet . It´s a complete island. For someone who like to have differents experiences would be great.

Not one mention of the slave trade. This was a huge stopover for the Portuguese slave trade. Why wasn’t this mentioned?
@michaeldelisieux5252 Жыл бұрын
Because.. it’s already known. Did you know that slavery/ serfdom only ended in Russia after the 1917 Revolution? Or that still today, in the Middle East, there are Countries, that are integral part of the United Nations and that still practice slavery? And to finish it all: do you think that a “ free” person in Latin America, Africa, South East Asia that work hard ( like the “free” people of Cape Verde nowadays) and receive one or two dollars per day for survival, aren’t they slaves themselves? Your “ horror” should be focused in what is happening TODAY, and NOT in a distant past.

That's what humans do, along with raping our significant others sexually or financially. That's why we dominate everything across this planet. I started watching this and switched off. Seems the Eurocentric narrator just glossed over the Portuguese role in the enslavement of Africans. If you're going to call any African country poor you should explain the role your country played in the disenfranchisement of the people and the looting of their natural resources which continue to this day. It's a testament to our strength and resilience that we're still here.

Thank you for pointing narrative agenda of expression about colonization damage that was whitewash in small documentary about Cape Verde Island consider this Islands play mayor part inconomic advancement for Europe economically dependent on Western Africa Ensavement to this day Cape Verde people are still living in strong hold of systematic oppression of colonization on partial to trade or economic world trade that Portugal to this day controls. History is factual humanity story that needs to be retold with outmost respect for true.

Whenever I read these comments I get annoy. When will YOU make a video changing the narrative? And what roles did our African ancestors play in this enslavement of their own people, which is still going on to date? Can I come by you, come in, take your children, take your goods without your participation? Where do greed and crab mentality come in? On whose side? Make your own videos with what you want us to hear and stop waiting for the Eurocentric narrators to do so to then criticize them. History keeps repeating itself! Grow up and become doers and not only critics!

Beautiful Island and people. I like that they don't sprawl between cities and everywhere, but over building can take over quickly if you perceive yourself as poor. There are such simple building supplies in America that, if shown simple natural building techniques, you could build beautiful housing (not too small nor too large) for the people. No electricity polls but using fuel operated generators would be more the thing (stay away from solar). If it is God's will for this people.
