My first Spyderco was the sprint run Tenacious with blue G10. The build quality and action on it are amazing. It punches way above its class. Not sure if that is a sprint run thing or just the model in general, but I love that piece even among more expensive knives.

I actually just bought a regular Tenacious yesterday. The price at Walmart dropped from 51.10 to 42.96, then I had a 25 dollar gift card so I got it for like 21 bucks. Its my first Spyderco and I haven't put it down. Been spidey flicking and hacking things up nonstop. It still shaves hair!!

Mine's on the way. I really like that the edge goes all the way to the handle, plus I like the hole as a simple way to open, the blade shape and handle shape, plus overall size.

Awesome vid. Just bought this for 77$ CDN. I just got into knives, and EDC. Decided this was my first "getting it to it knife" love the look and suits my needs. Almost pulled the trigger on a para spyderco but couldnt justify 250$+ unless i REALLY like my tenacious.

Before spending outrageous prices on "better" Spyderco knives, try a Cold Steel. Lawman, Recon 1, Voyager or Ultimate Hunter. Also the new Airlite is probably great. Once you use a Triad lock, everything else will feel inferior, except maybe an axis lock.

I think the lightweight tag on this knife is a bit laughable, still has full steel liners and the same pocket clip. No problem with 8CR on the blade though, it does the job perfectly and I would bet a lot that complain about it wouldn't be able to tell the real-world difference between 8CR and a few other steels if there wasn't a steel stamp on the blade.

I've got a couple of the nicer Spydies and a while back I wanted something modest as a beater, basically, and got a (Byrd) Cara Cara. It impressed me so much as simply a solid folder that I figured it made sense to get and carry a Tenacious. For a variety of reasons I like more modest knives for EDC and daily use in the kitchen. I'm still refining my sharpening technique so I actually don't want some insane level of edge retention because I need the practice. Maybe that'll change down the road, especially in the kitchen, but for the moment I have no problem with 8Cr at all. Of course there are better steels, and if you want that in all your knives, great. For me it fits what I want in an EDC right now. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. 😄

Thing with the FRN handles is that without stainless liners, they're definitely not all that--but this has pretty beefy stainless liners, plenty solid.

@@antoinedoinell Better steels ?? you can get better steels if that is your priority, that being said I have multiple knives and never once when using a 8CR knife have I thought it performed any worse in the real world (your mileage may vary) If you are cutting cardboard all day (which seems to be the use case for a lot of the complaining) you are better off using a boxcutter.

I just got the FRN version and I have an Elementum in G10 as well. G10 is nice but it’s not all that. I prefer the FRN feels more stable and grippy. Also if you keep wanting the Tenacious to have all these upgrades it won’t be an entry level knife. It will be close to the Para 2 or 3. And there is point in doing that. It’s a great knife for edc and using it for anything.
@kimmonshandtools68495 жыл бұрын
Spyderco definitely seems to do better than others with heat treatment of 8cr13mov. I really think in this price range they can introduce a better budget steel. I mean, I don’t like that spyderco is using the same steel I can get a knife in at autozone lol. That doesn’t say premium brand to me.
@gnomersy10875 жыл бұрын
I mean they also almost doubled the price of the Raven 2 which pushes it down in comparison by a lot imo. I really do agree that these don't feel like lightweight knives to me too, like sure frn is lighter than G10 so it's lighter technically and thus not false advertising but not lightweight.

Things Spyderco could have done to ACTUALLY make it lightweight: 1. Thinner blade stock 2. Thinner liners 3. Wire clip 4. Bigger opening-hole 5. Less liner material The first 3 would cost less, since they would use less steel. The last 2 could be done by adjusting the instructions on whatever machine they use to cut out the opening hole and the liners.

Even at 25% lighter than the 5.1 it’s still kinda chunky. That being said, I still want one. My son has the regular Tenacious and I handle it whenever I get a chance. As a knife carrier my entire life (50+ years) and a new “collector”, I am questioning my aversion to Spyderco... is it the leaf shaped blade or the hole in it that says to my brain “this isn’t really a knife”. Please, I don’t need haters to respond to me. The fact that I’ve also moved from slip joint to folders seems to be a “growth” in my tastes. I also lean towards “budget knives” ($40-70) so my desire to own a Shaman, or PM2 which would appeal to me the most seems to be a dream. Bottom line is, I am willing to try a Tenacious to bridge the gap... wish me luck and always willing to hear constructive criticism.
