I still remember this when it came out. You couldn't get through a single day in the summer without hearing this at least 4 or 5 times in the Bronx.
@Dirtcake713 жыл бұрын
I was in Toledo, OH and just like the Bronx, you had no choice but to hear it because everyone was playing it. Even one of the radio stations. They bleeped it of course and it was only played after 10 at night but everyone was listening to the radio at that time anyway.
@nygroover3973 жыл бұрын
True in the BX it was either this or B.D.P. usually. How many cassette tapes were worn out just from bumping it on the block? I Remember how many I went through it different albums. My records lasted slightly longer. Snoop 's version was about dealing crack. The edited version changed it to weed. They do that I guess.

Snoop's version was a tribute to Slick Rick. Because by 1993 most kids didn't know about this song. It was Dr Dre that forced Snoop to do this song, because Dre was a huge fan of Slick Rick (and who wasn't). Dr Dre thought Snoop sounded so much like Slick Rick, it would be a natural fit to create an updated version of "La Di da Di" Snoop resisted because he knew he sounded like Slick Rick and didn't want people to think he was biting off his style.

YO!!!! YOU PLAYED THE ORIGINAL CUT!! Every teenager from 13 to 19 and early 20's) had this song committed to memory, word for word in New York City's 5 boroughs. Damn much memories. I'm 52 years old and hanging out on the block drinking quarts of Old English 800, we would start rhyming this joint while one of us did the beatbox. That was a favorite past time in the city among us young people back then.😄

To see your face light up in reaction to this and many other songs just makes my day. It lets me and my fellow Hiphop fans know we didn't waste 10 -15 years of our lives enjoying Hiphop. Back in the day if you listen to Hiphop you viewed like a stoner on the couch in half baked. Glad to know others love Hiphop as much as we did.

Just a little hip hop history, if you listen to early Will Smith he was definitely trying to be a PG rated Slick Rick. He had a La-di-da-di-esque song called "Rock The House" with Reaedy Rock C. Will Smith also had a song called "Girls Ain't Nothing But Trouble" which was like a PG rated "Treat'em Like A Prostitute" by Slick Rick.
