These turtles are found nesting in areas both in, north and south of the equator. Unfortunately, green sea turtles, like all other species of sea turtles are classified endangered because of pollution, climate change and human interference. Green sea turtles have been one of the main subject animals in the fight against plastic pollution so turtles do not end up eating them. Climate change is making sea levels rise which could wipe out many of their favoured nesting grounds over time. Human interference is also a factor as people hunt and poach adults for their meat and shells as well as egg harvesting leading into unusually low numbers of hatchlings to reach adulthood. Oil spills can suffocate vulnerable populations of turtles in the area where the spill originates. Some oil spills can kill thousands of turtles in a single area.
